You can just use Harken and you've got your high SPD, high MT, amazing Hero. It's weak because Raven is arguably second best in the game, I merely used the necessary argument to counter the replacement argument because it's, quite frankly, stupid logic. The only necessary, unreplaceable unit is the main lord. Merlinus is very, VERY useful. Merlinus needs to be guarded on many chapters until he promotes. I question if he's top tier because he diverts the small amount of units you get per chapter into an even smaller number actually going headlong into the fray.
