Yes, logic dictates that each route is played 50% of the time, as there is no known objective reason to play one or the other more often, and therefore they are split evenly.

However, this is not the case with Eirika and Gerik. A known objective reason does indeed exist to bench them on Eph Route; they’re bad units on that route. That’s reason enough to not use them in that case. However, they’re the opposite on Eir Route; good units. Good units are used more often than bad units. This is an extremely simple, common-sense principle of debaet. It’s why Canas doesn’t get Bartre support but Lucius gets Raven support.

Therefore, the player does not field Eirika 50% of the time on Eir Route and 50% of the time on Eph Route. Since Eir Route Eirika’s a good unit and Eph Route Eirika’s a bad one, the former is being fielded more often. It’s more like 80% for Eir Route and 20% for Eph Route.

If this is the case, then giving the Eph Route version the same weight as the Eir Route version is silly and illogical. The differences between Gerik and Eirika matter none at all if both are on the bench, which is undeniably the case more often than not when Eph Route is played.

I don't happen to think that particular argument was BS, myself. As you said, that's quite up to interpretation, meaning that there's more than one valid take on it, rather than a "correct" take and a few other "BS" views.
