shinon forces you to use rolf to re-recruit him D:

But you don't need to train him up for that. >.> I recruited shinon and I never used rolf except for recruiting shinon.

Or you could just kill Shinon and get the experience and the Brave Bow, while not having to worry about the most complicated way of recruiting a character ever.

Recruiting Hannibal in FE4 is arguably more complicated, as is recruiting Xavier and probably some other FE5 characters.

Whatever
Both are mediocre snipers
I think I would rather level up Boyd and make him rape flying enemies
He's definitely got more power than the two

I don't know, recruiting Cath is pretty awkward, too. I spent forever trying to figure out who talks to her on the first mission you see her in, only to figure out later you have to talk to her several times over a series of missions to actually reruit her =P.

And yeah, Fireman is correct. The problem with Archers and Snipers is that, for the most part, Warriors and Bow Cavalry are simply better at using a bow in all ways that count than a dedicated archer is.

FE10 does a lot to rebalance this, though...

Oh yes, Hannibal was a royal pain to recruit. Can't kill him, and you have to run past his castle (and all of his men) and capture the castle behind that one, get a unit, and then have that unit talk to Hannibal. Most convoluted way of recruiting a character EVER.

Anyways, I personally prefer Rolf to Shinon. Shinon comes in at the beginning of the game and then leaves for a good part of the game and then comes back nearing the end of the game (well, Chapter 18 of 29, you tell me). Rolf comes in later in the game and stays with you all the way through. I like having archers on my team because they serve as good hit-and-run units (well, let's just say they're easily covered from the fight). By the time Shinon rejoins, I'd already been using Rolf for a LONG portion of the game, so I stick with Rolf.

I also choose characters based on their personality too (which in itself, probably isn't the smartest of ideas) and Shinon pisses me off more often than not.

Really? I find Shinon hilarious most of the time. I mean, it's almost like you -need- at least one asshole around, just to put all the "nice" characters into perspective. A little spice to a bland meal, if you will. Also, it's fun when he picks on Soren for being an angsty emo boy. Oh, and that scene where he's drunk and accosts Ike? Pure gold.

I personally find Rolf a pain to train in the beginning, but it becomes easier once the crows come into play at Ch 12 or so. Shinon on the other hand comes with A-rank bow mastery, which is hard to get to me with bows since they can't be used to counter most attackers. And his grwoths are like laguz-growths minus the guarantee +1HP for every level.

~Growth Rates~
HP: 75% Speed: 65%
Strength: 65% Defense: 50%
Magic: 20% Resistance: 40%
Skill: 70% Luck: 35%

Compared to Rolf, I'd say I'd defintiely pick Shinon. But then again, Rolf's ability to lvl up 40 times can possibly beat Shinon's 20/20 stats. But luck plays an important factor here. With Shinon, getting RNG screwed is much rarer. Not to mention Rolf needs a lot of baby-ing if you want to use him. I'm not an expert on supports, but Rolf seems to have more people, but Shinon's ones are better. Correct me on this if I'm wrong.

Neither are worth training. Shinon gets earlygame utility. Rolf gets... nothing. Therefore, Shinon wins.

Discuss.

lol o rly?
