Journeyman --> Pirate --> Berserker. Why cap his Str at 25 when he can easily do 30?

Archer --> Sniper. I just prefer the Sniper sprite. :D

Garcia's really doesn't matter. He's fine either way...

According to the tables from a guide at GameFAQS, Ross would be better as either a Warrior or Berserker.

LOL, I would say the same thing as Amelia and Geirik are the only good Axe users availible. Amelia, alone as a Paladin and having the ability to use Axes, screw Ross.

The only (important) thing Hero Ross has on Warrior Ross is SPD. At 20/10, Warrior Ross has 14.1 SPD, where hero Ross has 16.1 SPD. I think that Warrior Ross has a two CON lead (it may be one CON) over Hero Ross, so with heavier axes it cancels out. Let's take samples, however, of how the Rosses DA. If Hero Ross DAs against more enemies, it's the best route because he's maximizing offense. If Warrior Ross doubles more enemies, it's the best route because he'll deal more damage.

Stats used, Eirika's Chapter 19.

Mercenaries: Neither DA.
Knights: Both DA
Myrmidons: Neither DA
Archers: Both DA
Fighters: Both DA
Thieves: Neither DA, Warrior Ross gets DAd
Druids: Both DA
Generals: Both DA
Swordmasters: Neither DA, Warrior Ross gets DAd by Reinforcements
Great Knights: Both DA the Majority, Warrior Ross fails to get 2/6
Heroes: Neither DA
Warriors: Hero Ross DAs significantly more than Warrior Ross.
Snipers: Neither DA
Mage Knights: Neither DA
Rangers: Neither DA, Warrior Ross gets DAd by 2/6
Paladins: Hero Ross DA's significantly more.

When both DA, as long as both HR and WR are both one-rounding, it matters not whether WR does 7 more damage than needed to kill the enemy, rather than HR who only did 3 more damage than needed to kill the enemy.

Of course, I can't say if this holds true in chapter 19, but it probably does considering Ross' healthy Str stat. In which case, the WR is left with an amazing 0 advantages.

Berserker means you take away Colm's Ocean Seal. Colm should actually be one of the first units to promote since thieves have an exp boost (Ross, on the other hand, is one of the last), and holding anyone back from his/her promotion to let another unit promote instead is bad. Like...

Thief Colm + Fighter Ross -> Rogue Colm + Hero Ross -> Rogue Colm + Hero Ross >>> Thief Colm + Pirate Ross -> Thief/Rogue Colm + Pirate/Berserker Ross -> Rogue Colm + Berserker Ross

Master Seals can promote Thieves or Pirates I believe, but they still cost twice as much so that's no good. You could, for example, make Ross a Fighter, sell the master seal, and then buy a Speedwing from a secret shop or something and give it to Ross, and you'd still be cheaper than if you promoted Ross into Berserker.


EDIT: More about Hero vs Warrior from WJC at Gamefaqs, from the tier topic version 2. It was about Garcia, but Ross is Garcia with slightly more spd at endgame, so it hardly matters.

2 Spd is indeed a notable improvement when your Spd sucks as much as Garcia’s does. Warrior Garcia gets doubled by every SM and Ranger in Ch. 19, and can even get DA’d by Heroes and Mage Knights, while Hero Garcia avoids DAs from some SMs/Rangers, and avoids DA from all Heroes and MKs.

No, even at 40, he averages only 29.5. And you’re not getting to 40 ingame. Even if you say 35 is the endgame level, Warrior’s cap doesn’t help until the Hero’s cap starts holding him back, which isn’t until around 30. Warrior gets a 0.5 Str lead at 29, 1 point at 30 and 31, 2 points at 32 and 33, and 3 points at 34 and 35. Overall, an average of about a 1.8 Str lead over the course of those six levels.

The Hero’s Spd, however, comes from promo gains, not caps, so it takes effect instantly upon Garcia’s promotion.

2 Spd for 14 levels on a slow-as-crap unit >>>>>> 2 Str for 6 levels on a unit with huge Atk already

And yeah, there’s the Swords vs Bows, as well. Arguable under normal circumstances, but Hero gets a C Rank in Swords, while Warrior gets an E Rank in Bows, and then it’s not arguable anymore. Hero wins. Plus, Hero can riverwalk in Ch. 17. Granted, Warrior has 2 moar Con, but that's not saving it.
