Let's begin with some Supports. Lowen has Marcus, Harken, Isadora, Eliwood, and Rebecca. All of these units except for Isadora have a great shot at being on the team (Marcus only starts to get bad in the lategame), and they all would love a Lowen Support, so Lowen has quite a few options available to him. Now, Kent has Sain, Lyn, Fiora, Wallace, Heath, and Farina. Farina, Heath, and Wallace are unlikely options for obvious reasons. Lyn? She either shafts Eliwood or promotes late, and she always costs 20k to promote, so she's out. What we have left is Sain and Fiora. Additionally, there’s one other factor left about Supports—Knight Crests. You only get 2 up until Ch. 26, where you get your 3rd, and Oswin/Lowen/Kent/Sain are all good units, so one or two of them are promoting late depending on your team choice. Kent wants Sain to be played, and then you’re going to be wanting a tankly figure on your team (either Oswin or Lowen) for sure, since tanks in HHM are essential for maps such as VoD or BBD or even PFoD--heck, most chapters are made tons easier with a tank. So, under the scenario where Kent is played, he’s causing one of the three units you’re using to promote late. Either that, or he’s losing his Sain Support, in which case he’s left with only one Support. If you play Kent with Lowen or Kent with Oswin, Kent loses his Sain Support. If you play Kent with Sain, you lose your tank. If you play with a combination of three, someone gets screwed and promotes late. Lowen has no such detriment attached to him—you can play Lowen with Oswin, or Lowen with Kent, or Lowen with Sain, and it doesn’t affect him. You get your tank(s) no matter what, they promote on time, _and_ Lowen still gets full Supports. w1n. Lowen is clearly winning the Supports department. 16/0 Lowen, A Rebecca/B Eliwood, w/Iron Lance: Offense: 23.2 Atk, 11.2 AS, 123.4 Hit, 24.6 Crit Defense: 35.6 HP, 57.4 Avo, 13.6 Def, 5.2 Res 16/0 Kent, A Sain/C Fiora, w/Iron Lance: Offense: 23 Atk, 13.7 AS, 118.5 Hit, 15.8 Crit Defense: 32.7 HP, 41.4 Avoid, 9.8 Def, 5.8 Res On offense, they have the same Atk, but Lowen has a greater chance to Crit (this is noticeable when both are equipping Killer weapons, which they will be around Dragon’s Gate). Kent has an AS lead, but it’s fairly minor at only a difference of 2—and, if both are equipping Steel weapons (or the Javelin), Lowen loses 1 less AS than Kent does due to higher Con, so the AS difference is even smaller then, insignificant. ~9 Crit and ~5 Hit vs. 1-2 AS. Kent doesn’t even have a clear lead. More clear is the lead defensively, however. Lowen wins by 16 in Avo, 3.8 in Def, and 2.9 in HP vs. Kent’s lead of less than a point in Res. Lowen wins. Lowen wins defensively and it’s arguable offensively, so Lowen > Kent here. You might complain about Kent not having full Supports at this point, but it makes little difference—when he gets B Fiora he’ll only have +1 Atk/Def and +3 in Hit/Avo/Crit. Lowen will still be winning. Let’s fast forward a bit. 20/13 Lowen, A Rebecca/B Eliwood, w/Silver Lance Offense: 36 Atk, 17.0 AS, 134 Hit, 27.5 Crit Defense: 52 HP, 77 Avo, 21.9 Def, 11.0 Res, 20/13 Kent, A Sain/B Fiora, w/Silver Lance Offense: 38.4 Atk, 21.6 AS, 135.9 Hit, 23.2 Crit Defense: 48.3 HP, 63.4 Avo, 16.7 Def, 12.7 Res This is when Kent’s leads against Lowen are at their peaks. The higher Spd growth has had a large amount of time to grow, as has the higher Str growth. Thus, Kent wins offensively—however, enemies in this game tend to have very low AS. On top of that, Lowen still has +1 Con over Kent, so when they’re wielding weapons from which they lose AS (or Kent does), the lead shrinks again. Kent’s offensive lead only seriously matters against fast enemies and perhaps enemies such as Generals, so it’s not a massive victory. The defensive lead, on the other hand, is fairly huge. 3.7 HP, 13.4 Avo, and 5.2 Def >>> 1.7 Res. Looking at the Def alone, after taking only four attacks, Lowen has taken 20.8 less damage than Kent, and then those attacks have a much lower chance to hit Lowen (~13-14 Avo is a lot thanks to the dual-RN system). Lowen is the best tank in the game—he has more Avoid than Oswin in exchange for Def, so Lowen is tanky against both magical and physical enemies, whereas Oswin is only tanky against physical enemies. And then Lowen is mobile and has WTA all the time, unlike Oswin. Lowen consistently beats Kent defensively, and by great margins, being the best tank in the game. Kent, however, barely beats Lowen in offense for a long time, and then, when he finally does in the lategame, the win offensively is not big enough to override Lowen’s monstrous win defensively. Lowen also wins Supports. Lowen > Kent. |
