The archers from FE4 are ridiculously awesome... Jamka or Brigid will pretty much blow any of the archers from the GBA FEs out of the water =P. Crossbows are kind of a mixed bag. They are good, because they cap warrior's bow damage (so snipers can actually be better than them at archery, now...) and also give snipers a 1-2 range option. But, as you said, they are kind of broken whenever critical damage becomes involved, with a massive weapon might to multiply. Peggies are pretty much 1-shotted. I didn't even think about the potential with beastfoe/dragonslayer... scary possibilities. |

But they nerfed the Warriors so that Snipers are better at archery instead of just upping the Snipers, and it's that where I take issue. Just make the Snipers comparable, don't hurt the Warriors. |

Warriors are like...better w/ bows than archers. And thats supposed to be their speciality. But I guess that means that archers are gonna start being useful for more than 2-3 chapters.
Thank God. I thought you meant Warriors as a whole. I was about to start watching videos on Youtube to get the story. |

Yeah...they limited them to a specific kind of bow, and while they're still pretty good with Bows, I still don't like that they downgraded a unit to make Snipers better. |

Well, consider the opposite side of the situation, Tigers. What if they improved Snipers to be as good as Warriors? How would you go about that? From a design standpoint, you -could- increase the Str growth rates in general for Snipers, making them just as strong as Warriors with Bows. But then that only fixes one problem; Warriors would still have Axes -and- Bows, so they would have better weapon selection, and Warriors are also generally more durable. Warriors would still be better at archery. So then you would have to do even more, like add extra weapon skills, etc., and once you start adding swords and whatnot to archers, they start being less about archery, again =P. Maybe a good solution would be to distinguish archers again as the masters of long ranged combat, by making default bow range around 3, and longbow range at 4. This would give them a valuable, semi-unique skill that offsets the fact that they hit physical defense with a generally average strength (and so they don't do as much damage as most classes). It also differentiates them from mages... archers get a distance advantage, but mages do more damage up close because they attack res. Just throwing out an example idea there. |

Main problem with Archers is that they are nonexistent on enemy phase, imo a huge range doesn't really make up for it...and the double bow proves it ![]() Perhaps they could give bows the ability to hit close range but with fixed mt like staves? (though not as low.) |
