How do supports work in FE10? IIRC, in FE7, you had to place your units close to each other to keep the bonuses. Is it the same here? |

Supports are a little more complex in some ways, and in others, are simpler. First of all, the bonuses themselves are split between two types of support: The first type of support is a "Bond" support. Bond supports are very much like the inbuilt supports of PoR, except the game accounts for them is a visible manner now. Bond supports are permanent and cannot be changed. The only way to get more Bond supports is to transfer data from PoR... 'A' supports from that game will become Bonds in Radiant Dawn. Bond supports increase Evasion and Crit by a factor of 5 or 10. In order to receive a Bond bonus, the units must be adjacent (right next to each other). The other type of support is the "Buddy" support, which is similar to the regular supports from previous games. Everyone can have only one Buddy now, but you can freely discard the support status and begin a Buddy support with another unit, if you so choose. Buddy supports increase in each mission, until you reach a certain "level", after which you can increase the support level the next time you are at base. These points can be accumulated in a number of ways; Sending the units to the same chapters, having the units shove or rescue each other, having them stand adjacent to each other, and maybe a few others. Buddy supports increase 1 or 2 of: Atk, Def, Hit, or Eva. You must be within 3 spaces, as normal, to get Buddy support bonuses. Oh, and Support conversations pretty much suck in Radiant Dawn =P. |

It seems they're really short and not in depth. Anyway, thanks, Blackbird, for that note. I was a little confused myself. ~ Kovu |

Support conversations are very generic in Radiant Dawn; you have a preset call for each character at each support level, and a preset response (if they are being talked to). This differs very little. To give you a general idea of the depth of the conversation, a typical one goes something like this: A Call: "Hey buddy, watch your back out there!" B Reply: "Sure thing buddy, you come back alive as well!" They generally don't reveal any meaningful information or develop the characters in any significant way, unlike the previous games... in short, they are uninteresting, except from a purely statistical standpoint =P. |

They do however allow you to have perfect customization of who supports who though. |

Sometimes 3. yeah. Supports suck balls. the customization is the only redeeming quality, and it doesn't cut it. But the customization is nice. |

Thats too bad. Supports were one of the coolest things in FE. I always enjoyed reading them.
Only one? Okay, somebody needs to call Nintendo and complain. And how many bond supports can a unit have at once? |

Depending on the unit's inbuilt supports and what data you transferred from PoR, you could have anywhere between 0 and 5 Bond supports for any particular unit. Without transfer data, the most you can have is 4. You can only get the bonus for 4 at any one time, though, because the units must be adjacent to gain the bonus (one unit on each side). It's a little impractical to make such a formation the majority of the time, though, so having more Bonds mostly just increases the chances of using them. I found the support content in this game very disappointing, too. Fortunately, the lackluster supports are the only area I feel the game is really weakened in; the proverbial Achille's heel. The rest of the game has so much improved that I'm willing to forgive it for now. I just hope they improve it next game. |

Was the game rushed? That might explain why the supports are so crappy. |

Not at all. Radiant Dawn is anything but rushed. It's more like the nature of the system is such that it would be extremely impractical to write supports. It is possible to support anyone with anyone else, and when you have as many characters as Radiant Dawn does, the number of conceivable combinations is insane. If they wrote full supports for every combination, the text would fill a room. |

They could have fixed that by having the same number of supports as in any other FE. |

They tried something new, and it didn't work out well. It happens sometimes when you take risks in game development =P. They'll probably revert it to the old support style in the next game, or something similar. |
