Getting the Most From Data Transfer

(Minor spoilers possible in this thread, such as character availability/existance)

I thought it would be good to have a topic discussing the best way to prepare your Path of Radiance data for Radiant Dawn transfer.

For those unfamiliar with the concept, certain data can be transferred from PoR to Radiant Dawn, granting additional support or statisical bonuses, making your character's bases better. The helpfulness of this is obvious, especially for hard mode.

Here is a brief summary on how data transfer works: http://serenesforest.net/fe10/transfer.html

Looking over this list, it seems to maximize the benefit, you need to do several things:

Get as many characters to level 20/20 as possible, so they can transfer bonuses for capped stats. Furthermore, the more stats that reach cap, the better.

Largo, Calill, and Sothe become potentially more valuable in Path of Radiance as a result of data transfer.

Sothe's stats from Path of Radiance are a notable exception; they transfer directly to Radiant Dawn, overwriting lesser stats while leaving higher ones. Since Sothe is essential for some of the early Chapters of Radiant Dawn, sees a lot of play, and is generally considered the best thief (Sorry Heather, I still <3 you) in the game, improving him pretty much rocks.

Meanwhile, Largo and Calill are more important for a different reason. Largo doesn't exist as a playable character in Radiant Dawn; because of this, Calill gets whatever transfer bonuses were gained for both herself -and- Largo. Thats a possible +10 hps and +4 to all stats (realistically this won't happen of course, but that's still very significant)

This has the potential to take Calill from a unit that is merely average to one that kicks butt from start to finish.

It's debateable wether this is worthwhile though... there are a lot of competent Sages in Radiant Dawn... Micaiah, Soren, Illyana (not the best, but has great availability), Sanaki (great offense, weak defense). Whereas Calill's availability is somewhat more limited.

Coins gain a minor use now; coins can be transferred from PoR (where they are useless) and used to give bonuses to Radiant Dawn forged weapons. However, in my experience, Radiant Dawn showers you with coins anyway, so unless you forge a hell of a lot of weapons, I doubt it is worthwhile.

I'm somewhat of the mindset that transferring data for the Greil Mercenaries is a bit of overkill; they have crazy bases for the most part already, so it will just make them ram caps sooner. The Greil Mercs will probably kick ass no matter what.

It seems like it might be a good idea to transfer data for two groups: the first being characters that arrive early in the game, like Zihark, Jill, Illyana, Tauroneo, and of course Sothe. Boosted bases for these guys would greatly help you out during the difficult initial chapters. Tauroneo and Illyana tend to have lower bases and growths, respectively, so the stat boost will be a big help to their usability later.

The second group is the Crimeans. With the exception of Haar, Elincia, and to a lesser extent Kieran, the Crimeans are generally underleveled and just plain not quite as good as the Greil Mercs; they have fewer chapters to exist in. But with some boosted bases, they might retain their usability later in the game. Haar is basically an unstoppable killing machine to begin with, but with raised bases... *shudders*.

I guess the most important questions are:

What is the best way/mode to get the most characters to level 20?

Which characters are the most important to cap/improve/transfer data for Radiant Dawn?

Which A supports are the best to get in PoR so as to create additional Bond supports in Radiant Dawn?

What do you think?

I have little to no experience on PoR. What i can tell you though, is about the coins. While I didn't know you could transfer them, this is actually pretty good. I don't know how many coins you can get in PoR, but the more, the better. You see, while coin bonuses may seem random in RD, they'll always be the same once you use them (resetting the game and choosing different cards included). This means, that if you have, say 8 coins, you can forge, say a base stats iron axe (cheapest forge), and find out the list of benefits your coins have. Then you can reset the game, and forge iron axen at base stats until you get to the coin you want to use.

The more coins you have, the larger the number of good coins you'll have (statistically).

In order of questions:

Easy (you need to send in FE10 to get it fixed to work but meh)

Calill, Largo, Sothe, Mist, Mia, Jill imo.

IkexSoren because of the story changes.

Huh, that's pretty cool. I rarely forged because money was pretty tight during my playthrough, I didn't have so much that I could make uber weapons. Your approach sounds really useful though; make a cheap, economical, regular weapon and boost it just a bit with a coin/card, and you essentially get free bonus on a base weapon.

I believe there are 4 or 5 coins in PoR; there are tons in Radiant Dawn. Lots of them are buried treasure.

Easy mode is the best? Really? I would think Hard mode would be better because there are more enemies, and the enemies are tougher. What makes Easy the best?

What changes with the SorenxIke support? Can you tell me without spoiling too much if possible? I'm not sure if I've got that data on my game or not.

The fact that you don't lose units half the time. Though sometimes I prefer normal.
