Pelleas joins on Part 4 chapter 2, and he sucks. He is severely underleved compared to the rest of the team, who are mostly third tier already. 12 Pelleas, w/ Carreau 34.0 atk, 21.0 AS, 124.0 hit, 14.8 crit / 56.0 avo, 33.0 hp, 14.0 def, 19.0 res, 14.0 critavo His atk is pretty good, but his low AS and crappy hit overrides it. His main problem is his abysmal hit. With his most accurate weapon, he has roughly 60 – 70 hit against some enemies, that’s bad, specially if you are going to be setting up kills for him. And he never doubles. Similarly, his defence is also awful, probably the worst, beaten even by Lucia. He dies in two hits by everything except sages and some str screwed snipers. Attacking at range is nice, but his low durability implies that he is doing nothing on enemy phase, so everyone has to shield him from enemies. And when he misses a finisher, you have to have Reyson chant him/have everyone un equip their weapons so the scrub can be killed by Pelleas next turn, which is a massive detriment already. The main problem is at the time he joins. He is usable on turn 2, which means you can’t give him any BEXP/Paragon/whatever skill beforehand to make him suck less and avoid being a detriment. Furthermore, he appears at the farthest point possible for the action, in a chapter where you have high move units like Tibarn, Elincia and maybe some of the part 2 Paladins, so everyone has to stop for him. Conclusion: Pelleas blows when he joins. The second chapter is a swamp and its full of laguz. It’s a double-edged knife, on the positive side it’s the most EXP abundant chapter, on the negative side Pelleas looses mov and gets raped by the laguz. He has to be shielded at all times, since it takes like 2 tigers to kill Pelleas and Hawks/Ravens can fly around your front line and rape the back liners, so at times he has to move even further back. His offence is still bad, he can only double Dragons, which are usually in the very swamp and counter attack Pelleas at range and rape him horribly, so it’s not happening. Main problem again, is his hit, by this point Pelleas is probably lvl 15 or something, so he has 128 hit with Carreau. Highest-level Cat has about 72 evade, so that’s like 61.72 true hit. Against Tigers, it’s 90.54 true hit, Hawks – 68.40 true hit and Ravens – 56.29. And when Carreau runs out of uses and/or he needs more atk to kill and has to switch to Verrine he looses 5 hit. Against Ravens, the RNG will be working AGAINST him. We are obviously giving him Paragon in the swamp chapter, so let’s say he ends up as a 20/1 Archsage. By the end of the chapter he can probably have C Elincia to fix his hit. As for Kurthnaga, the best choice would be Ena, since they both have no supports and Ena being next to Kurthnaga helps her durability. First point, Kurthnaga doesn’t use up a unit slot, Pelleas does. On the endgame we have an extremely tight amount of free slots, only 10, 4 slots will be taken by the royals, so that only leaves 6. Elincia, Gatrie, Shinon, Soren, Zihark, Tauroneo, Oscar and a few others are all better than Pelleas by this point, so my team is worse off by having him replace a good unit. Transformation is never a problem for Kurthnaga, Giffca just arrived with a Laguz Ring, which keeps a laguz transformed for the whole chapter. Actually, Kurthnaga is fine with just a laguz stone, since the dragon gauge decreases extremely slowly, 1- per battle. Thirdly, Pelleas has staves and those make the party more durable, but… -When he uses a staff he is rendered useless on enemy phase and every enemy now wants to attacks him, so he has to be shielded. -Kurthnaga can make the party more durable too, Night Tide increases adjacent allies' Defence and Resistance by 5. As a side note, he benefits the most from stat boosters, since 2 points = 4 since he transforms. Let’s give Kurthnaga Paragon for this chapter. 20 Kurthnaga 42.0 atk, 20.0 AS, 148.0 hit, 7.8 crit / 61.0 avo, 55.0 hp, 30.0 def, 30.0 res, 21.0 critavo His AS is pretty low, that’s true, except, he has much more concrete durability compared to Pelleas, let’s compare with some enemies. Lance gen lv 12 (silver lance) Hp 48 Mt 40 Hit 164 As 24 Def 29 Res 22 Luck 25 Avo 78 This bitch doubles Kurthnaga for a total of 20 damage, while Pelleas takes 19 when Elincia is next to him, otherwise they are tied. Kurthnaga dies in 3 rounds, ditto on Pelleas…when Elincia is next to him. Since Kurthnaga is building is support with Ena, he is easily getting Blood Tide. So he does 18 damage per hit, which is a 3HKO. Pelleas with Balberith + Elincia does 22 damage to him… 22 x 2 = 44 < 48 It’s a 3HKO, they are tied. Pelleas doesn’t double it. Bishop lv 12 (shine) Hp 40 Mt 34 Hit 166 As 22 Def 16 Res 30 Luck 30 Avo 74 Crit 21 This enemy hits Kurthnaga for a pathetic 4 damage and doesn’t even double, while Pelleas takes 10 damage, he has WTA against him, but C Elincia counters this. Pelleas doubles this enemy for a total of 26 damage, while Kurthnaga does exactly the same damage. A 2HKO by both of them. They are both tied, except that Kurthnaga is much more durable, which allows him to use his offence more. Pelleas can counter this with staves, but note that Kurthnaga has Night Tide as well. Chapter E-2 is extremely straightforward. Enemies here are scattered around everywhere, Swordmasters double Pelleas, warriors and axe gens kill him in two hits and everything else in three. So he has to stand as far away as possible since enemies are in huge groups. Only the Swordmasters are doubling Kurthnaga, since 28 AS is needed to double him. Paragon removed. Let’s have Kurthnaga at 25 while Pelleas at 20/5. Swordsmaster lv 12 (silver sword) Hp 46 Mt 37 Hit 164 As 32 Def 20 Res 17 Avo 88 Crit 35 This enemy doubles both of them, 4 damage per hit to Kurthnaga, while Pelleas eats a massive 16 damage per hit, so a hit from anything is enough to finish him off. To make things worse, this guy has massive crit, Pelleas has 18.8 crit avo while Kurthnaga has 24. And even then, if the enemy managed to crit Kurthnaga, he would be left with 43 HP, hell, even if both hits were crits he would be left with 35 HP; while only one crit is enough to kill Pelleas. Offensively, Pelleas w/ Balberith and C Elincia has around 46 atk, Res applied he 2HKOs them. Pelleas has about 155.8 hit, on the Swordmaster he has 79.84 true hit. Kurthnaga w/ C Ena has 47 atk, def applied its 27 damage, also a 2HKO. As a side point, Ena will almost always be next to him, so he is easily getting Blood Tide for that 5 STR and SKL. Kurthnaga has worse hit than Pelleas, like 155, which doesn’t make a difference, do note though: For Pelleas to win in hit he has to be within three spaces from Elincia, so you are actually holding her down for him, if she flies away he has 58.8 hit on that Swordmaster, which is 66.79 true hit, now he is loosing. And if Ena is giving blood tide to Kurthnaga he has 165 hit, which is 89.65 true hit. Let’s try on some other scrub. Sniper lv 12 (silver bow) Hp 48 Mt 42 Hit 160 As 27 Def 24 Res 18 Avo 77 This enemy hits Kurthnaga for 9 damage. Kurthnaga doesn’t 2HKO this enemy, he does 46 damage to it, two points away from killing it, though if he has blood tide, he 2HKOs it. The Sniper does 20 damage total to Pelleas, which kills him in three hits, as opposed to Kurthnaga who can take 6 hits before dying. Pelleas 2HKOs this enemy. tl;dr? Kurthnaga wins durability by a landslide, which helps when all enemies are in a massive group. E-3, Kurthnaga is possibly 26 while Pelleas is 20/6. Kurthnaga starts out transformed this time, so he doesn’t consume a stone/ring. This chapter is full of dragons that do massive damage, Ike at 20/20 gets two shotted by a White Dragon for example. Kurthnaga and Ena have no issues here; they have infinite durability since no enemy will counter them, not even the boss. The only thing that can possibly damage them is the wave attack thing that Dheginsea does. So they can just roam the chapter attacking anything without worry. Because you have dragons coming from three sides, you can have Ena and Kurthnaga block a path if things are getting risky. Pelleas, on the other hand, is getting raped. One hit from a Red Dragon leaves him with 9 HP, one from a White one will leave him with 16 HP. To make things worse he is always taking counters. Kurthnaga 2HKOs the Red Dragons with Blood Tide, while he 2HKOs the White Ones without it. Pelleas can one round the Red Dragons with Thoron, if he uses ArcThunder he has to activate Flare. He only does 23 damage to the White Dragons per hit, 46 per round and they have like 67 HP, without Flare he’s not one rounding. Dragons have massive hit, like around 165, and Pelleas only has 77 avoid. If he attacks on Player Phase, he can only attack on Enemy Phase if he was healed and if only one Dragon can reach him. I’m clearly seeing Kurthnaga better off. E-4, Kurthnaga is liek 28 while Pelleas is 20/8. Kurthnaga should have like a B Ena while Pelleas has B Elincia. Kurthnaga has formshift now. Defensibly both Kurthnaga and Pelleas have infinite durability since both attack at range, but are always taking counters on Player Phase. Thunder spirit lv 20 Hp 38 Mt 36 Hit 165 As 28 Def 23 Res 30 Luck 30 Avo 101 This spirit doubles Kurthnaga. But he is completely impervious to damage, he has 36 res when transformed and gets 1+ from Ena. Without Blood Tide he has 50 atk, -23 = 27 x 2 = 54 > 38. It’s a 2HKO. Pelleas doesn’t double the spirit even with capped SPD, and the spirit does 8 damage per hit. W/Balberith he has 48 atk, so he only does 18 damage per hit, which is a 3HKO. Kurthnaga wins kthx. Last chapter = meh. The only thing they will be doing is fighting spirits and Kurthnaga is better at that. Ashera does massive damage to the whole party with that wave attack, and Kurthnaga has massive durability, so the fact that Pelleas needs to be healed counters Pelleas healing others. Kurthnaga still has Night Tide to bring durability to the team. To sum the crap up, Pelleas sucks tremendously in the two chapters you have him, uses a unit slot just to tie with Kurthnaga for two chapters and then looses to him for all the rest. |
