We've had Fire Emblem Debate tournaments, but never a standard good ol' fashioned debate tournament. So I'm trying to see who's interested and trying to make a style that works. So just some stuff: Tournament Rules:
Some issues from the National Forensics League that may be good for a tournament are...

I may be interested. I usually don't bother with the debate forum because writing a gigantic post doesn't really get you anywhere, but this is a lot more structured. I think you should be allowed to choose your side of the argument however. There are certain debates where I completely fail to understand the logic of the other side, and I'm sure others feel the same way. |

What happens when two people want the same side? I chose these issues from the NFL's website (National Forensics League) in hopes they would be neutral enough. If you want to suggest more topics I urge you to post more topics. |

Well maybe you take a pool of the people who want to debate on a certain topic before you assign matchups, then see if the ratio between pro and con is evenly distributed, and if not, make adjustments accordingly. I'm all for this; since debating is one of my all time favorite things to do. ![]() As for additional topics... I'm fine with the given at the moment. They all seem perfectly debatable even if they have been resolved on NFL. If this does start up due to enough enthusiasm, count me in. |

They word all resolutions in that manner; even the issues for this year's National Tournament are worded in such a manner only because it sets up an affirmative and a negative. Not a bad idea. Post topics ideas that you're interested in or support topics already posted. I will keep a running tally next to the topics. |

I don't know how many people would be interested, but one topic I've been fired up about as of late is piracy, copyright infringement, etc etc. It could easily be developed into a viable topic if you wanted. |

So basically, each of the debates in the tournament are clones of each other, because they're all debating the same thing? Other than that, it looks good, but... |

I can sterilize the issues for British debating pleasure. If I make it double elimination then we'll have so many rounds and different topics it might be more work than what's good for us. But if everyone agrees we can set a different topic for each round. |

Didn't think of that. But still, it may or may not wind up being a problem depending on how many people enter. |

When you can't make them see the light, make them feel the heat.

If each round is the same topic, I think we will have the problem of people of the same side copying each other. Though I am interested in this as well, and would probably participate. After all, it would be everyone copying me </ego>. |
