Alright, so I actually have a bit of time now. This'll be a bit rusty at first because it's been a while since I've written anything. I already find this lulzy XD And yes, I did totally just wing this. --------------- Chapter 1 - Badge The tiny badge flashed a rainbow motley of colors in his palm as the holographic image of an arena shimmered into life above the device. The arena, hexagonal and bare save for the thousands upon thousands of benches laid out for spectators, revolved unnecessarily, showing off its bland features. A mechanical voice suddenly buzzed from the arena, greeting its charge briefly. “Please state your name,” the voice asked politely. “Blank,” he answered, casually shifting his weight. “Please state your name,” repeated the voice. “I said my name is Blank.” “Contestant Blankzorz confirmed.” The badge bleeped and glowed red as it sent the transmission back to its source. “akjsnkfnaoeg NO! Blank! It’s Blank!” “The annual Emblem Tournament, hosted by the esteemed Emblem Corporation, shall commence on July 10 at the Zero Arena,” the voice continued. “Please stop by the MANsion on July 7 for the opening ball to hear from the Emblem Corporation’s president. Thank you for participating in this year’s tournament.” The mini arena hologram disappeared and the colors faded away to leave a plain silver badge in his hand. Blank sighed as he closed his letterbox and turned to head back inside his house. “Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea…” “Blank!” Blank looked over the short, thick hedge that separated his little block of a house from his neighbor’s kitty shaped abode. “Oh, Tiara. How are you?” “I’m good thanks,” Tiara smiled sweetly. “So you’re joining this year’s tournament?” “Yeah,” he nodded, glancing at the badge. “Great! We can leave together tomorrow,” Tiara said excitedly, waving her own badge out in front of her. “You’re entering again then?” Blank asked. “Don’t we have a couple of days yet before we have to meet at the MANsion?” Tiara shrugged as her attention was stolen by a passing kitten on the hedge. “It’s best to be early there. Otherwise we’ll have some really bad rooms. Oh who’s a pretty little kitty! Oh yes, that’s you isn’t it? I’ll wait for you tomorrow morning. We’ll catch the train.” With that, she left, snuggling the helpless kitten to her cheek. Blank shook his head. Having lived by her for years, he was used to her obsessive love for the felines. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ The screech of brakes in the station could not compete with the squealing of his travel companion at the sight of cat shaped key rings sold at the mini shop beside the ticket booth. Blank paid the fifty dollars for their tickets, mumbling about the rip-off and the price of petrol these days. He was about to grab Tiara by the arm and drag her to their platform when there was an even louder scream, this time of distress. Blank spun around to see a young woman waving and pointing at a hooded figure who was weaving past the crowd handling the little red purse that matched her red business suit. “Stop him! Please!” she called desperately. Luckily, the thief was headed straight for Blank, and with one punch, Blank knocked him to the ground. Shaking the numbness from his hand, he looked down on the thief, Tiara now looking on in confusion. “I think you’d better give that back to her,” he said, being as menacing as he could. The thief looked up from his dark hood, revealing a dark brown complexion. He grinned then, rubbing his cheek with the hand that held the purse. “Who’s gonna make me?” Suddenly, the thief was one his feet and Blank felt a sharp stab at his ribs, a cry escaped his lips. There was a cackle of mocking laughter as he doubled over, hearing the rush of wind as the thief slipped past him. Something was off about this guy. Then, equally as suddenly, the laughter stopped and was replaced instead with a gurgle of surprise. Blank managed to look over his shoulder in time to see Tiara’s foot in the thief’s gut, suspended for a moment before he was shot back the way he had originally come and landed just at the woman in red’s feet. Tiara straightened herself and put her hands on her hips. “You’d better give back that purse, Santi, or I’m reporting you to the Corporation!” she yelled across the strip. All eyes were tuned in to the situation, and the thief named Santi struggled to his feet. Reluctantly and with a sour expression, Santi returned the purse gruffly then turned back to Tiara. “This isn’t over, Tiara.” Then he streaked past the crowd, shoving people away as he disappeared. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ “Is he a contestant?” Blank asked as he rubbed his sore ribs. Morning light streamed into the train as they left the underground rail network beneath the city and rose into the green countryside. Tiara nodded, flipping the page of her magazine. “Santi. He’s a pretty good competitor. A little faster than average, but his better attribute is his strength.” Blank thought to himself for a moment. If he couldn’t even last a second against this random kid, how much worse were his chances against his neighbor Tiara who sent him flying and told him off like any older sister? He sighed and took the badge out of his pants pocket. “Don’t worry about him too much,” Tiara smiled at him. “You’re better off worrying about last year’s champions.” |

I accidentally placed a dead line on myself by adding dates x_x ----------------- Chapter 2 – MANsion “Welcome to the MANsion!” Blank felt his face flush red as the abnormally attractive maid bowed low, as he and Tiara entered the large open double doors to the MANsion. Tiara was already halfway across the foyer before he realized she was calling to him to hurry along. The foyer spread out before him, as big as a gathering hall. The marble floor tapped at the sound of Tiara’s excited footsteps as she headed for the stairs on the other side. Huge columns supported the high roof and held crimson drooping flags from curly gold poles with the famous MENblem imprinted on them in gold. The wide staircase rose then split into two, heading both left and right along the wall from which hung a giant portrait of the Emblem Corporation’s president. “Blank, c’mon!” Tiara’s voice echoed past the tap of butlers’ black boots. “They’ve prepared our rooms on the west wing. Looks like we’ll be neighbors again!” ~~~~~~~~~~~~ The walk through the MANsion was simply a blur in Blank’s mind by the time he finally reached his room. The half hour walk from the foyer to the west wing held too many sights for him to fully remember all at once, and even his room was just far too incredible to express in words. The room could fit his entire house. The bed alone was the size of his back yard. His feeble luggage could sit in the wardrobe, suitcase and all. His jaw permanently attached to the floor, Blank proceeded to explore the en suite, the balcony, and the ‘mini’ bar. He was so absorbed in his surroundings that he only heard the knock on his door when it was almost broken down. “Let’s go down and have dinner,” Tiara suggested, already half-dragging him out. “Some of the contestants are already here and you really should meet them.” Unable to protest whether he wanted to or not, Blank allowed himself to be taken across the MANsion, wondering how Tiara could possibly remember the way to the dining hall. When they arrived, Blank had to squint to be able to see the small gathering on the other side of the vast room. Tiara took a deep breath and screamed “HAI GAIZ!” He wasn’t sure if they heard, but Blank decided that the tiny smudges in the distance did in fact hear her and turned in their direction. Ten minutes later, they had crossed the floor and Blank could get a good look at the group. A familiar face was the first to catch his eye. Santi was sitting with his dirty boots up on the polished sandalwood of the table, grinning darkly at him and Tiara. “Well, well, I guess I’ll have my revenge sooner than I expected,” he said, pulling back his hood. “So this is the guy then?” another dark colored guy asked. He sat beside Santi and wore a similar colored hooded sweater, but with a scrawled message imprinted on it. Something about “niggaz” was all Blank could make of it. “What, is he your partner this year, Tiara?” Tiara paused for a moment and thought. “Oh right, I haven’t thought about that yet. What do you say, Blank?” Blank stared at her blankly for a moment. “What’s this partner?” Tiara smacked her forehead. “You didn’t read about it? This tournament requires us to have partners. We fight in pairs. I guess you don’t have one because you didn’t even know about it. It’s you and me now!” Blank hardly had a chance to protest. Again. At least now he didn’t have to worry about her as an opponent and he had some chance. Santi chuckled. “So I guess that means you’re ditching Hakado for this guy.” Tiara gaped for a moment, then hung her head. “H-Hakado isn’t fighting this year anyway. He couldn’t make it…” “Who cares?” said the guy beside Santi. “Just makes you all the more easy to beat.” The two laughed. “Shut up, Grady,” another young man interjected, running a hand through his red hair. “You two didn’t get past the second round last year.” The girl beside him giggled, her own silver hair sighing as it slipped over her shoulder. Grady frowned. “Tch.” “Who…are these people?” Blank asked, looking at the last two who stood and spoke their own private conversation. Tiara took another deep breath to calm herself and began pointing around at everyone. “He’s Santi, I already told you about him. That guy’s Grady. They’re partners from da Niggaz. Grady’s a little weaker than Santi, but when he gets a good hit in, it hurts.” Grady grinned, a little pleased with himself. She pointed to the red-head next. “That’s Reaver. He’s also really strong, and is known to be really smart but a bit of a hot-head.” Tiara giggled at the same time as the silver-haired girl. Blank was confused. This Reaver didn’t look like the type to get angry very easily. “Anyway,” Tiara continued. “This is Dragon Goddess.” The silver-haired maiden tipped her head slightly in greeting, sporting an equally welcoming smile. “You can call me Megan,” she added. “She’s Reaver’s partner,” Tiara explained. “She may look nice now, but she’s far from it in the arena.” She went on to point to the last two members of the small group of contestants. “And they are Kovu and Tiltyu. They’re worlds apart, but they’re a killer combination.” Blank greeted them all save the hooded duo who didn’t seem to care anyway. His mind was reeling from all the information thrown at him that day, and he felt a sudden urge to eat something. As though they had read his mind, three young maids appeared and set down a mini banquet for them to enjoy. Blank dove in almost immediately, already competing against Santi and Grady to see who could eat the most in the shortest time. “The others shall be arriving within the next couple of days,” one of the maids informed, smiling sweetly. “Please feel free to make yourself at home here.” “Thank you,” Dragon Goddess replied as the trio left in single file. |

Chapter 3 – Training Room The morning sun peeped through the thin white curtains, bathing the room in its warm glow. Blank was already up, showered and dressed, and he lay on his bed staring at the roof, contemplating the tournament ahead. From his observations the previous night, there was tough competition about and he hardly felt he was strong enough to hold his own. His only consolation was the memory of Tiara dealing some damage to Santi at the train station. There was a light, sing-song tap at the door and he rolled along the huge bed, knowing it would be his new battle partner on the other side of the wooden barricade. Before he had even greeted her good morning, she had already taken hold of his arm and was again half-dragging him away in which he could only guess was the direction of the dining hall. He would have been right, as well, if they had not taken a left instead of headed straight forward when they came across the statue of the Greek god Zeus. “Tiara, where are we going?” Blank inquired, feeling his arm going numb. “I’m going to train you up,” she answered a little too cheerfully. “Y’know, prepare you for the tournament.” Blank was about to defend his pride when it occurred to him that it would probably be a good idea. He allowed himself to be taken to a mechanical door, that hissed open when Tiara showed her badge to a scanner on it wall beside it. Inside, Blank was disappointed to see that it was nothing more than a bare white room with a computer imbedded into the wall near the door. “Ok,” Tiara said, placing herself in front of the blue-glowing screen. “So what do you think is your best attribute in battle?” Blank thought for a moment. And then a moment longer. “Uhh…” he said with an embarrassed tone. Tiara looked at him with a glint in her eye. “Oh you don’t know? Well then, we’ll have to work on everything!” Suddenly her fingers were flying across the keys and the white room faded to black save for the blue computer screen. A familiar mechanical voice sounded from somewhere in the darkness and declared: “Dodge Practice, level one, loading…Dodge simulation commencing. Good luck.” “Let’s go!” Tiara said excitedly from behind him as the black suddenly became a wide lava pool, stone stepping stones spaced out and around. “Wait, Tiara, what do we do?” he asked, already worried. Tiara, however, had already hopped onto a stepping stone just as a rain of fireballs showered the field. ~~~~~~~~~~~ “Hmmm, Hakado’s not coming this year?” Reaver shrugged at the large man who asked the question and returned to his pear. “That’s what Tiara said at least. She’s got a new partner. Some new face to the crowd.” “Heh,” another laughed. “I guess that means she won’t last long this year.” “I wouldn’t go that far,” Reaver answered between mouthfuls. “We have no data on him so we can’t possibly know just how good he is.” “Well now may be the time to find out,” Dragon Goddess said as she watched Tiara and Blank approach. Before he was even within hearing range, the four had already made up their minds, and hung their heads in embarrassment. A wisp of dark smoke curled from his singed clothes and he was spotted with bruises of varying sizes all over his visible skin. The most unhappy expression marked his face, which was only made worse by the scratches that lined his cheeks. And there was Tiara, as cheery as ever and completely unscathed. “Don’t worry about it, Blank,” she comforted as they reached their destination. “You’ve got plenty of time to polish up before the tournament starts.” Blank was far from enthusiastic as he dropped himself onto one of the red velvet seats. It took him a moment to notice the two new faces that had joined Reaver and Dragon Goddess. “Tiara, who are they?” Tiara sat herself beside him and waved at the two. “Well the large, well-built one is Rock. He may be one of the slower contestants, but he’s pretty solid. It’ll be a long fight against him before he even flinches.” Rock said nothing and simply nodded. “The other one is Jedi,” Tiara continued. “He’s also pretty tough to get past, only he’s just a bit faster. If we end up fighting them, we’ll have to work hard.” Blank felt a lump in his throat from the news. He believed every word she said because he could hardly deny them with the two titans standing before him. “Hey.” All eyes turned to see Tiltyu beckoning them over from the door. Somehow she managed to project her voice the length of the room without using too much effort. “Another group has arrived. Want to greet them?” ~~~~~~~~~~~ By the time they had all reached the foyer, Santi and Grady were already waiting by the columns, apparently not too enthused about the newcomers. The new pairing had already taken their luggage and the squeaking of wheels could be heard with their footsteps on the marble floor. Blank heard Kovu scoff as they descended the stairs, before he and Tiltyu went ahead to meet them. “So, you actually made it, Soja,” he said with open arms. The male of the pairing smiled mockingly. “Did you think I’d miss a chance to wipe the floor with you, Kovu?” “No one’s better suited for the job,” Soja’s female counterpart added, challenging Kovu with a piercing look. Tiltyu shook her head as the four met. “I believe you’ll be greatly disappointed this year, Crysta,” she said, sending an identical icy-look at the woman. There was a pause as they all sized each other up, then all coldness went away as they began greeting each other with a warm kind of friendship. “Tiara…” Blank began, slightly confused. “Rivals,” Tiara answered, who already knew the question. “Soja and Crysta are more balanced in terms of attributes compared to Tiltyu and Kovu, but both teams make good use of their partnerships.” Blank groaned a little. His chances of winning the tournament seemed to get slimmer by the minute. |
