Making this topic to compile all that we've learnt so far about the game. D:

Fire Emblem DS will be released in Japan next week, on August 7th (though no other release dates are confirmed yet), and is a remake of the very first FE on the NES, entitled New Dark Dragon and Sword of Light (Shin Ankoku Ryū to Hikari no Ken in Japanese).

Along with a graphical overhaul, the game features some of the more modern FE mechanics, as opposed to some of the older mechanics used originally, as well as a slew of new features.

- the weapon skill stat, which was used to determine which weapons a character could wield has been replaced by weapon levels
- the weapon triangle exists (but is only +/-5%, apparently)
- there are new prologue chapters that weren't in the original game
- there are gaiden chapters added in as well
- new weapons, such as a prf spear for Sheeda
- new characters, such as Freyr, a Social Knight
- a feature where characters can change their class (to any other class of their tier), however at any given moment the amount you can have of each class is limited (so, you can have, say, 5 armours, 4 social knights, 2 mages, and so on maximum, for example)
- Marth still does not promote
- online multiplayer in which you battle on an actual map with your story mode characters (though there's apparently only one map you can battle on, which is kinda lame...). Random or friend battles, and friend battles will have voice chat. There are also rental characters and several options you can change (turn time limit, fog of war, etc.)
- 6 difficulty modes; normal mode, for beginners, as well as a total of five hard modes (though I don't know what the differences will be between them)
- the game will not have battle saves like in Radiant Dawn, however, there will be one-time save points at certain points (like before boss battles, I'd imagine) on maps

Vincent has lots of news coverage and images in the FEDS section on Serenes Forest; link.

Also, here's the official site: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ds/yfej/index.html

If I'm missing anything, or if anyone wants to add anything, post it here, and I'll update it, or a mod can or something. D:

Famitsu gave it a 34. You should add that.

Also, this will be the best game in the series by far.

Lol. Just, lol. Talk about overkill.

High praise from Sety. I won't be able to judge the game myself until I become a Judge in the RPG again have more information on the game.

The difficulties only affect the weapons and stats, if I recall. The enemy count doesn't change in between difficulties.

Well, if you don't like the idea of class swap, then don't use it, lol.

But it would make characters who are similar to Meg (who had stats of a Myrmidon but was an armour, in case you didn't play Radiant Dawn...) a fuckton more useful.

That doesn't change the fact that it destroys key concepts. I'm planning on using it for lulz (DOGA THE MAGE), but that doesn't mean I don't think it completely ruins the game.

Maybe those 6 hard modes will make you think differently :NomNomNom:

I'm sure this was done because of FFT. No point in crying about it.

I've failed to come up with something witty, so I hope you will enjoy this filler text instead.

I might play around with that class swap-thing. I'll completely ignore it on my first playthrough, though.

That is, if this game even makes it outside of Japan.
