This is a game we used to play on a now-defunct Phoenix Wright forum. The game works like this: A GM makes up a homicide. The GM has to figure out every single detail of the crime, down to the very last detail. There has to be a location. While generally the location isnt considered important, the GM must be very precise with the location of the murder. Where was it? What time of day was it? Was the door locked? Anything. There can be between 3 to 8 pieces of evidence, the GM will have to decide what they are, what do they contain (does it have fingerprints? a blood stain? etc.) These have to be extremely precise due the nature that they hold the answer of the trial. There are anywhere from SIX to SEVEN roles that must be played by the players. _____________ The Prosecutor- The Prosecutor is attempting to get the Defendant Guilty. He has the power to do an INVESTIGATION. This is where the Prosecution can make the Detective (played the GM) to investigate any piece of evidence, or the scene, for specific details not provided with their initial report. They do not have to ask for the details themselves, as their investigation will reveal ANYTHING not originally turned up. The Prosecution gets a 'trump card' with ONE PIECE of withheld evidence that they may reveal, if they choose, at any time during the court proceedings. The Defense- As you should know, The Defense is the opposite of the Prosecutor. He is attempting to get a "Not Guilty" verdict for the Defendant. The Defense has the power to Cross Examine the Witness. The Defense, like the Prosecution, gets ONE PIECE of withheld evidence they may reveal at any time. The Defendant- The accused for Murder. They have the power to TESTIFY on WILL. If they feel that the trial is taking a bad turn, they may their force their TESTIMONY. Whether they are guilty or not guilty is up to the judge, at the end of all the Testimonies. Whether they are actually guilty of the murder or not, only they know (other than the GM, of course). The Defendant's account is provided to them before the game by the GM, as well as their actual status. The Witness- The witnesses, anywhere from two to three of them, all give Testimonies of their account of the murder. There is a possibility one of them may be the REAL MURDERER. This is up to the Defense OR Prosecution to pursue. The witnesses accounts are provided for them, before the game, by the GM, as well as their actual innocence. The Judge - The judge has the power to OVERTURN any objections and keep COURT ORDER. If they feel that the topic is straying too far form the truth, they can bring it back to the point. Their decision at the end of all the testimonies is whether the Defendant is guilty or not. If the GM chooses, they can play the part of a WITNESS. They automatically play the DETECTIVE. ________ How the game plays: The game opens with the GM describing the scene of the murder, including the victim and the details they feel the need to share. Then the Judge begins by declaring the trial, then the Prosecution's opening statement, and then the Defense's. The first Testimony is always the Detective's played by the Game Moderator. The second Testimony is the first Witnesses'. The Defendant may interrupt the cross examination of this Testimony to give their Testimony. The third Testimony is the second Witnesses'. The Defendant may interrupt the cross examination of this Testimony to give their Testimony. If there is a third witness, then this Testimony belongs to them. The same rules applies as the first two witnesses. If the Defendant chooses to hold their Testimony until now, then they do not get to Testify. After each Testimony, the Defense may or may not choose to Cross Examine the Witness/Defendant. The Defense will ask a series of questions, of their making, of the witness/defendant. The Prosecution can attempt to interject (with an Objection), if the Judge lets it pass, then the Prosecution may rebuttle a question. The Defense can object to one of the rebuttles, but it must be sustained by the Judge. The Witness answers these questions to their will. They may not necessarily tell the truth, it's up to them. After all the testimonies and cross examinations, the Judge will pronounce his verdict. ______________ SO, if you think you grasp it, then feel free to sign up for FEF's first trial game!
