I mean it can't e for energy, cause that thing has to use an assload so it can't exactly be efficient in that. It's all about learning more about subatomic particles, the beginning of time, our existence, and pretty much the fundamental properties of matter. We don't know everything, and the more we know, the better we can do. You may say a lot of modern physics doesn't have much to do with real life, but quantum computing is becoming more and more pragmatic.

It's important to know how the universe works, because it gives us better potential to manipulate it to our advantage.

Also, Yzarc, I know zero about Physics so sorry if I might have misunderstood that part. I can see how it can be seen from that view, but I also feel it's majorly for the purpose of finding the facts of the origins of creation. Humans are too curious.

To suggest that modern physics is irrelevant to the real world is horribly off. And aside from that, how can you not be interested in how the universe works? Things like string theory fascinate the living hell out of me, and I don't even begin to have a clue about how it works or anything like that.

Earth Science was boring as hell to me, and I don't plan on taking Physics, or enjoying it if I do.

But it seems it got through in the end. I also find modern physics really interesting, but it's one of those things I could just never quite get my head around.
