It doesn't save anymore does it?

This is unfortunately bound to happen to all cartridges that can save (the second generation Pokemon games are notorious for dying obnoxiously early, as is Kirby's Super Star for the SNES).

There IS a way to rectify your problems though!

What you need is a new battery.

This means you need to unscrew and open up the cartridge, take out the old battery, and solder in a new one.

I've done it a couple times now, though I'm still admittedly a little inexperienced at the procedure.

It works.

This is just to make you aware of the fact that your cartridges are still very much playable, and can be saved with a little bit of patience and learning.

Soldering irons w/ coils are NOT expensive. Go to Radioshack.

Mine was 10$

if you need more info, this guy had a great FAQ/Tutorial---
I HIGHLY suggest you look. This guide, for a couple of forum posts, is EXTREMELY easy to understand, HIGHLY comprehensive, and will let you know exactly what you need to do.

For a second I thought this title read:
Your NES/SNES/GameBoy etc collection. I was wrong. >|

I did mess with my Yoshi's Island cartridge's battery when I was like 6 or 7. Snes game. It still worked afterwards, just It no longer had the plastic case and was just a card sitting in my Snes. >_>

Thanks for sharing this. I might actually try it. Although I don't trust myself. It's a loss anway. Might as well.
What happens if I can't check my MySpace when we get there?

Soldering is fun~

I remember GCSE electronics lessons when Rohan and I would sit failing to solder these components onto our circuit boards and discussing Fire Emblem... about the one time I've actually had lengthy FE discussions IRL.

My friend's Secret of Mana sometimes has saving issues. My old copy of Mario RPG did, but then it was stolen. Heheh, sucker.

well if you looked at the link i posted, he tells you. I'm pretty sure for GB/GBC, the batteries they use for hearing aids work. I would check up on that first though.

That's ood none of my SNES or GB cartiges are screwed up. Though I clearly remember my ruby game saying something was wrong with the internal clock after I accidently left it at the bottom of my hill for a couple days

This is a good find, but Im bumping this because I found a way with my dad to do this without and sodering, melting, potentially burning your chip, etc. All you needed was a small screwdriver, so some strong tape, and a small enough pair of plyers to get the screw out. I just fixed my crystal version last night, and it now is perfect. Ill probably talk to the guy with the original idea tony posted, and I might post what I did here.

Well, that may work with GameBoy and GameBoy Color, and possibly Game Boy Advance games due to how compact they are, but i would still never, EVER suggest doing that because if that battery comes loose while your saving, it'll screw up your data, AND the tape might ruin the game's circuitry. But cool, I guess.
