Men are far more affected by stress than women. It's why we have a shorter life expectancy, because we bottle up our emotions, which elevates stress. Also, anyone who's seen Scrubs knows this is true. Dr. Cox figured out why J.D.'s patient had a failing heart, why there was a man whose skin was orange and why Elliot was mad at Turk. He did not, however, figure out that Carla was suffering from postpartum depression, which was the focus of the following episode.

Men don't express it as well, but women tend to have a lot more of it in the first place (2/3 of all household chores, a job, and most of the childcare, etc). Women do express their emotions, which may cause them to overall be more emotional, thus making this disease affect them more, but they do not suffer from greater stress levels than men.

Women seem to be naturally in better shape in terms of living longer. However, I think in terms of love life, it is not surprising women are more affected by this. After all, in this day and age especially, women have become more and more attached to having a relationship, and if hurt, it causes them far more pain then it generally does for men. That being said, guys to tend to unhealthily bottle things up. Women just have it happen it to them on far more occasions due to the negatives of changing social and personality norms. That being said not all girls are like this, but it is far more common, and thus, this makes sense in my mind.

Women are hypochondriacs and schedule a doctor's appointment for every cold sore they get.
