For desktops on the other hand, you can probably get a nice machine. Unless you are willing to settle with a netbook, which is an excellent deal for the money you pay.

The ThinkPad is usually considered the best laptop by several consumer and expert reviewers. For the record, I have an IdeaPad and bought it for $600 from Microcenter. It is great. 2gb ram, 250 gb hard drive, dvd-r, great speakers....good deal in my opinion. You can also get an old ThinkPad for around $500.

Iono, Also depends on how long you plan on using it for in one sitting. Can't give ya much advice but raisin' the budget a bit for an HP or something. I know some stores around here are gonna have some insane sails on computer/laptops the day after thansgiving and then on.

(even though they look sick) I don't know I'm gonna shop around. What do you people think about Acer laptops?
