My friend brought this game over today, and we played co-op. Fun game. I miss the Merchant :(

We got to the wetlands area, and then eventually one of us died, and he had to go home.

Anyone know what the "best" weapons are in this game? In RE4, I went with the Red9, Striker, Broken Butterfly, and whatever that second rifle was. I don't want to invest too heavily in weapons I'm going to throw away, so which weapons should I be looking to buy?

bought the game myself now, btw

The M3 saved my life hella times. Don't bother going after the Hydra Shotgun until you've beaten the game atleast once and are confident with lower strength weopons.

I hate the rapid fire guns and the starter handgun does just fine on normal mode.

I need someone's help with Mercinary mode. Someone hella good. I'm pretty good but I make stupid mistakes sometimes. :-/

M3 is a shotgun?
oops sorry, yeah. You pick one up later on. The only gripe I have with it is the max capacity of 10 but it has a power cap of I tink 900 and it looks like the shotgun used in Left 4 Dead so I love it.

The Drogenov, or whatever you call it is a great sniper to have and possibly power upo. You get an even better one later on but that's pretty far into the game, but deffinately worth maxing out during a second run though. I really don't recomend any of the rapid fire guns but if you had to pick one, I'd say the first two you get are better ONLY BECAUSE of the handling. I find the AK-74 to be soooo innacurate and it's hard to keep good accuracy when shooting people from afar, let alone a few meters away. the guns that have proven to be the most useful to me during my first runthough were:

The M3 (the Ithica shotgun is great for the beginning of the game)
The first Handgun you get
The Drogonave (the second rifel)

The M3 is worth maxing out for the Unlimited ammo but I unlocked the final rifels unlimited ammo first and I did the undereground garden chapter over and over again for treasure and that gun took care of the lickers with ease, giving me several Lionheart Gems to seel for a good price.

I've been bringing around the first Machine Gun you get, simply because there is alot of Machine Gun ammo around, and I don't want to run out of weapons to use. Doesn't seem like a bad gun to use vs groups, although I'd kinda rather use a shotgun there.

Are there more than one Magnums in this game, and if so, which one should I use on my first playthough? I picked one up in the Wetlands (and then had to fight a horde of enemies, including two giant guys with big hammers who I threw like 4 grenades at to kill).

I never got the one in the wetlands but I know you get a Desert Eagle-ish one later on called the L. Hawk or something like that. I never really use magnums on my first run through only because my guns are usually weak in the first run through, meaning I go through ammo faster than I would in the second or third run through ....so I didn't want to use a gun that was stuck at holding 6 shots until I could afford to cap at 10 <__<

Anyway, the first magnum is alright but I don't know how often you'll run into Magnum Ammo and Just a as a warning, the Melee Vest and the Bullet Proof Vest both take up space in your already limited inventory case. Since it's your first runthough, you'll need to keep in mind that it is important to atleast have the bulletproof vest on you before you reach the Underground Garden. (Sometimes it'll seem like you're getting shot at out of nowhere, lol).

So I'm assuming you have a hand gun, a shot gun, and the first machine gun. Then, I'm hoping you'll have enough ammo on you during the game so that's another 3 or 4 slots. So you've already taken up 6 or 7 slots (not including the vests). That leaves 2 or 3 slots. I Recommend always having some kind of mixed herb spray or a First Aid Spray on you because it's easy for Sheva to get fucked up buy enemy gunmen. Hell, you're even an easy target. I dunno, play it safe when it comes to that. If you have trouble deciding whether or not to take a magnum with you, just ask "will I have enough space for the things I need" because some boss battles leave you thanking yourself for packing up hella ammo.

Honestly, this game doesn't deserve to be called RE5. It deserves to be called Resident Evil 4: Africa
Agreed...I think the game is EXACTLY like RE4 for the most part, and I don't really intend to buy it..the demo is good enough until I can borrow it for free from a friend...

I got the Melee Vest, handgun, machine gun, and shotgun. My magnum is in storage (I also have like 12 magnum bullets in storage). I normally carry around my extra Grenades (like normal and Flash grenades). Sheva has her handgun, the rifle, and healing items.

Enemies with guns of their own sound fun, can't wait >_>

I got it 2 days ago, and am currently on chapter 5-something.

Well, it is a fun game, but I just prefer the way original RE games played (Like RE0). So it's kind of hard getting used to the completley different gameplay style. Both games also employ a different kind of fear; Leech Zombies and chainsaw Majijinswhatevers are radically different enemies, but both still make my heart beat incredibly fast.

In the end...I guess I'm going with RE0>RE5. I just like the idea of actually having to conserve ammo and having opening doors animations over mindlessly killing every enemy in sight.

I have lots of respect for RE1, 2, 3, CV, and 0. However, I cannot play those games at all. Reason being, is I cannot stand the controls in those games. The "human tank" controls just piss me off to no end. I can hardly navigate a straight hallway with how controls work. When I press a direction on my controller, I want to go in the direction I pressed. I don't want to go in that direction, relative to where the fuckin character is facing. You can't believe how much I hated old RE controls.

...
yeah, I can't go back to those games either O__o Sucks 'cus I have the RE1 remake for the gamecube and I really wanna play it.....but god I just can't get past the controlls, lol. I stil lhave lots of love for the older games.

Oh yeah, flash grenades are a must, IMO. You'll know what I'm talking about once you run into this one Plaga that pops out rarely but it's super hard to kill on your first runthough 'cus one part of it is invincable, it brings you down to DYING status when it gets you, and he walks pretty quickly for such a lugish looking thing. Oh and I'm sure it has hella life too. I counted running into 7 of them I think in my first playthrough. They're a pain but really neat and creepy lookign.

Haha, I much more prefer the old RE style controls. I guess we just have different mindsets.

I don't see how someone can say the old human tank controls come anywhere near the current ones. If you put the controls from the early RE games into any other genre other than Survival Horror, people would spit on the game.

@LY: Are the plaga you are talking about the ones that instead of just popping out of the head, bust out of their entire upper body, and had sorta like a shell thing? I Flash naded that one when I saw it.
