I won't post any specific links, but I recommend you read up on his arrest. I don't want to post any sources which are too slanted in either direction. Ultimately I side with Gates on this issue for reasons which are 100% independent from race and don't see Crowley as a bad police officer or racist because of this incident. I wouldn't even give Crowley any sort of meaningful slap on the wrist because of this mishap, just a "you made a mistake but it's understandable/cool" and then let it slide.

I think the biggest reason that this is a consistent newsmaker for a couple of days is because Gates is screaming "racial profiling" and the President is shooting off his mouth at press conferences without even knowing what really happened. I think apologies are best had and the incident laid to rest, because, like you say, Reaver, it was just a mistake.

The Policemen was there investigating a reported break-in. If Gates in fact did refuse to give identification, then Gates was in the wrong (obviously). I mean, how else would the Police know if Gates was the home's owner or not? But since I know so little about this situation, I can't really form a solid opinion about it. The only opinion I do have, from what I read on Wikipedia (lol), was that most likely Gates was over reacting, but whether it was enough to arrest him over depends, since I don't have all the facts.

For the record, I side with the officer AND the never-mentioned black officer's side of the story. Seems much more credible, and he's got way too many people backing him up. AND he taught courses on how not to profile racially. Doesn't add up to me.

Gates is basically saying that the officer was racially profiling, and that sort of stuff, right? So if that is true, and the officer was racially profiling, why don't you think he shouldn't get any punishment for it? Or are you simply saying it wasn't racial profiling, but it was still a mistake to arrest him?
