I shit you not, this is my homework.

By next week, I need to have played a little bit of a 2d "casual" (whatever that means) game that I haven't played before (preferably). I don't want to get some shitty little game I'll never play again and don't care about. I'll be writing a 2.5 (single spaced) paper reviewing the game.

I was wondering if anyone had suggestions.

That you have never played before? And it has to be 2d, as in side scroller, or 2d as in the graphics?

Senty: Either or I suppose. I think what my prof had in mind was something like arcade games. He gave examples like an overhead racing game, Monkey Treasure Island (or whatever), the old color vector Star Wars game, so on and so forth.

Ryoku: I considered those, but I'm worried I won't be able to fill up a two and a half pages about one of those.

Play a Contra game. Like Contra or Contra 3. Or Smash TV would be another great one.

edit: Actually, if you wrote a paper on Smash TV, I would demand that you let us read it.

Play a old Commander Keen game.

The graphics suck by todays standards but it's fun and you have a POGO STICK!

And it's free :P

Smash TV... Funny you bring that up. My friend was telling me how "awesome" it was the other day when we were discussing what we should make for our games later in the year.

Smash TV, Contra, and Commander Keen are on my list. I think I've played the latter two, but that was a LONG time ago and I barely remember it.

Smash TV would be a GREAT game to write a school paper about.

I'm with Sent. Go with Smash TV.

It also makes a great case study for a theoretical reality TV show that doesn't suck.

I suggest Gunstar Heroes, or if it can be a newer 2D game, Alien Hominid or Castle Crashers.
Or Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Sonic, etc.

Also, Fatal Fury Special, SF2 are other suggestions I have. Good luck, Blank.

Problem with Smash TV is I heard that it's really hard to control on an emulator.

lol I played most of those Lin. Not Gunstar Heroes though or Alien Hominid or Castle Crashers.

Ah. Go with Gunstar Heroes then. Amazingly fun 2d Game, same style as Contra, only you have HP. :L
