Hell yeah it is. Got a problem? Stay off the field. Probably. Shit happens. That's why there are such things as illegal football tackles. Those sorts are usually more harmful to the one doing the tackling than the one getting hit. You're never, ever supposed to use your head to lead on an impact. That much force could break your neck no matter how built you are. |

The entire sport should be illegal. It doesn't matter how much padding you have or how many rules there are to prevent "illegal tackles", if the objective of the game is to knock down your opponent to get the ball there are -going- to be incidences like this one. It goes beyond accidental sport injury. All it takes is one bad landing and you're fucked. This topic is case and point. I can't get my hockey reviews on T.V. without going through 10 minutes of so-and-so getting injured in football and having to leave for the rest of the season to get surgery.. or something to that effect. ... and anyone who tackles with their head could stand to grow a few braincells. ~ Kovu Edited by Kovu, Sep 29 2009, 10:20 AM.

Every day we trust millions of people, many of questionable judgment, to operate 4,000 lb. automobiles. Quite frequently, statistically, there are accidents between two or more of those vehicles every day, and, inevitably, someone dies as a result. Should we, then, outlaw cars? Planes crash sometimes, killing hundreds of people when they do. Should we outlaw airliners? And, technically, the objective is to stop your opponent from taking the ball down the field. Taking the ball isn't a legal maneuver. As with so many other things in life. So you endorse hockey, an arguably more physical game, played on a field of ice using footwear that balances the player on nothing less than razor sharp blades of steel, knocking around a puck of solid graphite whose speeds can reach excesses of 50 mph, using long sticks of polished hardwood with a hooked fringe, where collisions between players match or exceed the forces between football players, therefore mandating more protective padding and armor, and going so far in its machismo as to allow players to have fistfights between one another; and you're condemning football for being too dangerous and violent? As far as I know, no fan has died as a direct result of a football game.  Unlike hockey. That puck packs a hell of a punch.That fact is compounded by the fact that the inspiration for that rule came when a team member, upset over a loss, tackled a locker in such a fashion. |
