Nathan Rom
Day 31

(This takes place before Ben arrived at the Flame)

Nathan had arrived at the house. He hadn't slept at all and could barely stay awake. There was a light on and he could hear voices from inside. He guessed it was around 5AM or so since there was no sun and yet he didn't need it to see the pathway towards the door. Nathan knocked at the door and he could hear some whispering. He could swear somebody was looking at him through a nearby window. The door quickly opened and he was knocked out by someone. All Nathan could see was total blackness....

(Present Time)

Nathan awoke inside the hatch. He was in the bunk bed.
"Hello? Anybody here?!" Nathan got up from the bed and started walking around. He arrived in the kitchen where Rose was making pancakes.
"Nathan you are up! Sorry about Sayid hitting you." Sayid and Sun walked into the kitchen and stopped as soon as they saw Nathan.
"Hello Nathan. Where have you been all of this time?" Sayid grabbed Nathan by the throat and put him against a nearby wall almost choking him.
"Where are our friends?!! We know you are a traitor!!"
"Sayid stop..." Sun tried to calm him down, but Sayid was not in the mood to hear any reasoning.
"I am not what you think I am.... please Sayid you have to believe me! That is exactly why I am here! I am here to help you guys save our friends!!"
"Well I can tell you are telling the truth...." Sayid let Nathan go.
"But you are still lying! Tell me Nathan who were you looking for in The Flame that you just decided to knock?"
"I don't know who I was looking for! I was just told that I would find help there! I was tired and I hadn't gotten any sleep!"
"Who told you that you would find help there?! Who?!" Sayid was getting impatient.
"You won't believe me. It would sound crazy." Sayid pressed his nose up against Nathan's nose.
"Try me." Nathan hesitantly decided to tell them.
"Boone." Sun, Rose, and Sayid seemed surprised. Micahel then walked in looking worried.
"Has anyone seen Walt?! I think he ran off again! Man I swear I am gonna give that boy...." Michael stopped and looked at Nathan.

"Nathan! Where's Jack?!" Two other survivors walked in looking extremely happy.
"You guys gotta go up! It's crazy!! You gotta see this!!"
"Not now Frogurt... we are currently busy..." The other guy grabbed Sayid by the shoulder.
"I swear it will be worth your time."
"This better be good Steve." (The Steve that Brian created not the other Steve who is still at the coal mines) They all took turns climbing the ladder and Nathan and Rose were the last ones to go up. Rose stopped Nathan before he began to climb.
"You are telling the truth right Nathan? You aren't one of them right?"
"Of course Rose. I am telling the truth. Why are you people so shook up right now? How could you even consider that I am one of them?!" Rose began to get a little teary-eyed.
"They killed Jin and Bernard." Nathan was utterly shocked. He hugged Rose and tried his best to comfort her.
"I am so sorry Rose. Bernard was a great man." How could they do this?!!

They climbed the ladder and what they saw was everyone hugging someone. Libby was there and Claire with her baby as well. They were hugging a rather large man. Rose immediately ran towards the large man and hugged him.
"Hurley!!"
"Libby found him near a beach!" Frogurt tried to cut in line so he could hug Hurley. Hurley saw Nathan and immediately fear began to form in his face.
"He's bad!! He's a bad man!!" They all looked at Nathan with angry faces and Rose looked betrayed and hurt.
"What... I don't even know who this guy is!!" Sayid, Michael and Steve advanced toward him ready to take Nathan down...

Day 31-1
Cindy Chandler

“I understand, Amelia, but it hardly seems like something worth having a trial over!” Cindy complained the next day as the duo exited one of the many facility buildings in the Hydra Station.

“My dear, we live in a very closed community. We take relationships and family here on the island very seriously.”

Cindy let out a frustrated sigh. “Whatever,” she mumbled. “Those two guys at the front didn’t seem to like each other much.”

“Quite right. Richard and Benjamin are not terribly fond of each other.”

“I confess, this isn’t exactly the island paradise I was hoping for,” to which Amelia did not answer. “What is this place, Amelia? I just, it’s that, I… Where are we?”

Amelia smiled as she sat on a bench overlooking a Savannah like prairie. The scene was really quite tranquil, with some Giraffe’s visible in the background, and water bubbling softly in the foreground, separating them from the exhibit, but it did not ease Cindy’s mood. Wrinkles of concern furrowed Amelia’s eyes. “This place is difficult to describe, dear. As you have surmised, it sort of has a mind of its own sometimes,” she reported, as if that settled it.

“Then who are you people – we,” she corrected. “Who are we then?”

“Several of us have arrived on the island over the years through various means. At different times, we have different leaders. Presently, our leader is Richard. After him, there will be another leader.”

“Will it be that guy, Ben?”

Amelia raised an eyebrow. “There’s no way of knowing. The hierarchy here is difficult to describe. But there are rumors that Ben would like to take Richard’s place. The arrival of Flight 815 and the increased recent attention on the island from the outside world are evidence, in Ben’s mind, that Richard is losing his control on this place.”

“What would happen if Ben took control?”

“Much the same, dear, much the same. People would work. People would live. People would die.”

“What do you people do here?” she asked, suspicious that the response would be innocuous.

“Research, mainly. We are studying questions about life and death. Time and space. We research the human body, and more importantly, the brain. We examine social and emotional interactions between humans and animals. It’s all quite fascinating, and quite boring all the same.”

“What do you do here?”

“Me? Oh, nothing much. I tinker here and there. I’m really much to old to do anything important,” she said, and Cindy was rather sure that she didn’t believe her.

The duo walked on in silence. She was pleasant company, but Cindy was growing tired of having a nanny sit over her. They were in the building where Harper’s office was. They climbed the stairs and arrived on the very level, to be precise. “What are we doing here?” Cindy asked suspiciously.

“Oh, I just have to pick up a few books in my office,” she said as she unlocked a door about three doors down from Harper’s. As the two entered the office, Cindy stood back, amazed. She entered into a bloody library, full of books, signs, press clippings, pictures, and posters. One or two featured Amelia and her famous Pacific flight and disappearance, but these were not prominent. Most of the pictures involved engines or planes. It was all in immaculate shape – very neat and orderly. Her phone rang, and Amelia looked up at Cindy, “Dearie, would you mind stepping out for a moment while I take this? It’s an old friend, and sometimes our conversations need privacy.”

“Oh, well, sure,” Cindy answered, backing out of the office.

“And please shut the door, will you, sweetie? Thank you.”

Cindy closed the door and looked awkwardly around. A phone was ringing in Harper’s office, and then Harper came rushing around the corner and jogged into her own office without noticing Cindy.

“Goodwin!” Harper whispered fiercely, presumably into her phone. Despite her attempts to whisper, her voice was plainly heard in the hallway. “Are they ready yet?” A pause. “Well, it all depends. I have a few loose ends to tie up. Richard has taken off with that slick wannabe from flight 815. Ben went back to the Barracks. I’m trying to get the kids out of harms way if we can before everything hits the fan. So as soon as I can take care of that, I’ll off that other 815 B1@ch and I’ll meet you on the other side.” She paused again as bile rose in Cindy’s throat. “So Amy is helping you?” Harper asked, and Cindy could hear the jealousy in that petty woman’s voice. “Be careful not to push any of them too fast. They shouldn’t… exert themselves this soon.” A few more seconds went by, and Harper concluded with, “Yeah, we’re good. I’m looking forward to it. I miss you.”

Cindy stood in the doorway as Harper hung up. “That was interesting,” she commented as Harper went pale. “How’s my man doing?”

Harper flung herself over the couch with a strength and aggression that surprised Cindy. Cindy was very fit, but was in no way ready to fend off the attack. She struggled backwards as Harper locked her hands around Cindy’s throat. “I’ll breath easier knowing that you’re not breathing,” Harper explained with a sinister smile.

Cindy flailed about as Harper choked her, and managed to half rip the other woman’s sweater/overcoat off. The seconds ticked on, and Cindy began blacking out. In desperation, she crossed her legs and tried to flip herself over, throwing Harper partially off of her. Cindy was able to get a gasp or two of air as her grip loosened, but Harper was able to mount her from behind and wrap her arms around her neck again, and Cindy collapsed beneath her. She was able to position her chin in such a way to get a little air, but she was losing strength fast. With a groan, Cindy got to her hands and knees and rolled over again, putting Harper on her back and Cindy on top of her.

Harper lost her breath for a moment, but quickly pushed Cindy off of her as Amelia’s door opened. The elderly woman did not look pleased. “Now, ladies, what is the meaning of this?” she demanded, pulling out a small rod from her purse. Harper rapidly ripped off the rest of her sweater and threw it at Amelia, who dropped her purse and the rod. Harper took advantage of the situation and fled down the hallway in her undershirt.

Amelia sighed and clicked her tongue. “I never did like that one,” she concluded.

Juliet Burke
Day 31 ~ Return Scene

Juliet awoke inside some sort of tent. It was raining outside and she could hear people yelling and hitting objects.
"Oh good you're awake." She turned towards the direction the voice was coming from. It was Ethan.
"Am I in the coal mines?" Ethan nodded his head.
"Isabel and Harper thought it would be best for you to... how can I say this.... find something new to do."
"Did Isabel have to approve paralyzing me as a way to bring me here?!"
"Harper claims you were not being very cooperative and it was a last measure to paralyze you." Juliet drank some water from a water bottle nearby.
"Hey Jules. Glad to have you on the A-Team!" Juliet stared at the man who just barely entered the tent.
"Danny! I didn't know you were also here!"
"Yep. Just the best of us are here! Jason is also here making sure they are working!" Ethan looked at his watch and nodded to Danny.
"Well.... it's time for us to head home with the rest of the sheep. Come on let's go home Jules." Juliet didn't like Danny's comment.
"They're not sheep Danny they are people just like us."
"Whatever... look are you coming or not?" Juliet followed Danny and got inside his truck. Ethan and Jason drove the other people to a nearby camp so they could get some sleep.

Sawyer - DAY 31 PART 4

"It's getting dark" Jack said. He and Sawyer where standing outside of Jacob's cabin they didn't talk much the two of them looked anxious to see what Jacob would tell Richard.

"Yeah, yeah I would hate to be standing around here when it gets dark it's pretty spooky" Sawyer answered Jack as Jack peaked through the window.

"See anything?" Sawyer asked.

"No it's too dark" Jack said as he pressed his ear against the window.

"What the hell are you doing Doc?" Sawyer asked.

"I'm not a doctor how many times do I have to say that" Jack suddenly looked annoyed by Sawyer.

"You sure act like a doctor" Sawyer muttered under his breath.

"What did you say?"

"Nothing" Sawyer quickly answered making it obvious he said something, " So what have you been up to, while I took my vacation?"

"Why do you never take anything seriously... Well a while back now I took a group of us to find a way off this island, myself, Shannon and Ana Lucia where captured by them, I had to leave them behind, they have attached this watch" Jack started to get upset he couldn't finish his sentence. Sawyer didn't share any sympathy.

"Ok then, by them do you mean the others?" Sawyer asked but Jack was to upset to answer.
After a long pause Sawyer continued to talk, "Hey I have had a tougher time, They captured me too, they drug me and brainwashed me into thinking that I was one of them, I was taken half way around the world to assassinate someone that man turned out to be my former boss, lucky enough he told me the truth but I killed a man in cold blood he didn't deserve it but I killed him and I hunted down the others but then I was caught again and threw on a boat which happened to have a load of crazy mercenaries aboard it who just happen to want to kill everything they come across, I was locked in a room in the dark and left with my thoughts with my guilt, I'm seeing things I shouldn't see, people I shouldn't see, then I'm back at this crazy place which seems to have gone down hill since I left but the worst part of it is that the damn others cut off my hair", Sawyer finally finished but only because he was interrupted by a massive crashing noise that came from inside the cabin, the floor begun to shake and a rumbling noise screeched through there ears.

"I knew we shouldn't have let him in there alone" Sawyer shouted to Jack.

Then everything came to a stop not a sound was heard.
Jack cried out Richard's name, The door opened and there came Richard holding forehead there was a huge gash on his face.

"Who the hell did you piss off?" Sawyer asked.

DESMOND

Day 31
Entry 2

Desmond found a spot just outside the Orchid and sat down. Since uncovering the truth about Penny back at the Barracks, he had never stopped feeling distraught. He took out one of the Letters and opened it.

Dear Kelvin,

It still weighs heavy on my heart that we're apart. Absence really does make the heart grow fonder...

"Hey!" came a voice.

Desmond quickly folded up the letter and stuffed it back into the box before he could finish reading the rest of it.

"Hey what are you doing? They're all in there trying to figure out what to do about Goodwin and the gas. Aren't you going to help?" said Mathias as he approached.

"I just needed a moment to myself Brotha." Desmond stuffed the box back into his pack.

"So what's with those letters?" asked Mathias.

Desmond just sat there for a moment staring off in the distance. After a few seconds he spoke, "Penny sent you here to find Kelvin and me, yeah?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"I told you. As long as you are here your lives are in danger. Miss Widmore's father wants control of this island. He obsesses over it."

"No. I mean why does she care whether I live or die? Penny and Kelvin were in love. Together they arranged to keep me here. On this island... Out of their lives... So they could continue their relationship without me in their way."

"Is that what you think?" Mathias looked away and smiled, "You're right. Miss Widmore and Kelvin had arranged to keep you here, but it's not why you think. They were keeping you hidden from her father."

"I don't understand."

"Charles Widmore tried to have you killed. Miss Widmore reached out to Kelvin for help in an act of desperation. He told her about this place, that he had exclusive access to it, and that her father would never find you here. Those here on the island were sworn to never disclose it's location to outsiders. Kelvin was loyal to this cause, not even telling Miss Widmore the coordinates. He smuggled you here via submarine, and nursed you out of your coma, he then had no choice but to keep you here by any means necessary. All that time he kept Miss Widmore regularly updated on your well being. A few weeks ago those routine updates stopped. Miss widmore tried everything she could to find this place. She had myself and a colleague stationed in the Arctic listening for magnetic disruptions around the Earth in hopes that it may lead her here. And it did, but unfortunately, it lead her father here too."

Desmond was enlightened some, but still numb and confused over Penny and Kelvin's relationship. "Penny lead me to believe she was in love with me. We talked about marriage. I even bought her an engagement ring."

"Of course. She's been very worried about you." said Mathias.

"Well these letters were all written by her. They're love letters from her to Kelvin." Desmond looked back at Mathias hoping he could explain.

Suddenly another voice interrupted them...

"Ahhh, so you found the letters, which means you found the Barracks. I guess my map was pretty good then, eh? I told you Kelvin had the hots for that blonde. Now you believe me?"

"Goodwin?" Desmond said surprised as he stood up next to Mathias.

Goodwin stood a few feet away with a gun drawn on them, "Yeah so... I never got to thank you for doing such a nice job recreating a new supply of neurotoxin. It's going to come in quite handy. My people have big plans. So anyway... umm... Thanks..."

BANG!
he pulled the trigger. Desmond felt the warm spatter of Mathias's blood hit the side of his face. Mathias's lifeless body then dropped to the ground.

Desmond was once again at the mercy of Goodwin.

Miles, Day 31-3, Whispers

Miles heard the all too familiar sounds around him. The voices in his head that only a couple of people knew about. Then he heard the somewhat familiar voice of Mathias cutting through the chatter. "Miles, we need your help outside."

Mathias had gone outside to check on Desmond just moments earlier. Miles felt horrible about what had happened, and chalked it up to the shock of learning about his past. Mom had been vague about dad-- I didn't even know his name when she passed away-- and now, could it be that Halliwax is really my dad? And what was an Asian dude doing with the name Halliwax anyway? Miles tried to compartmentalize his thoughts and go out to see what Mathias needed.

Upon emerging from the station, Miles saw a man with a gun pointed directly at Desmond and Mathias' lifeless body on the ground next to him. Oh bloody hell, Mathias is dead? Desmond still held one of the letters in his hands, and he appeared to notice Miles, but quickly turned his attention back to his captor. Thank God he's got his back to me. Miles attempted to move quietly behind the unknown assailant and removed his gun from his holster and silently pointed it at the man.

"So, GOODWIN, are you going to shoot me now?" Desmond emphasized the name to make sure Miles knew who he was up against. So, this is the dude with the poison gas, and if I kill him, the gas is still out there. Frak. Miles quickly and quietly holstered his pistol. Change of plans.

Throwing caution to the wind, Miles sprinted the ten yards that separated he and Goodwin and crane kicked the gun hand. The gun went off as it flew from Goodwin's hand, the bullet missing Desmond's head by inches. Miles followed up with a palm thrust to the stomach which drove the wind out of Goodwin, and then a swift roundhouse kick to the skull spun and floored Goodwin. Miles quickly put his forearm on the prone man's throat as Desmond recovered.

"Where's the gas?!?" demanded Miles.

"Ah, so the experiment returns!" taunted Goodwin as he struggled to catch a breath. "Well played."

"Experiment?" Miles momentarily lowered his guard as the impact of the word resonated within him. Goodwin used this to his advantage to flip Miles small frame onto his back. He raised his fist above his head, when Goodwin heard a gun cocked behind him.

"That's enough, Goodwin. Why don't you get off my man and play nice?" Desmond had the forethought to grab the gun, and Miles was relieved to have the much larger man off him with his hands raised.

But still, in the back of his mind... experiment?!?

Jack Shepard
Day 31: Entry 2

"Who the hell did you piss off?" Sawyer asked. Richard just kept putting pressure on his bloody forehead and looked at Jack.
"Your next." Jack looked at Sawyer and he quickly shook his head telling him not to go inside.
"Don't do it Doc.... it ain't safe."
"I'll be fine Sawyer. Just give me your gun." Jack was starting to have second thoughts. Richard laughed and continued to apply pressure on his forehead.
"I wouldn't go in there with a gun if I were you. Jacob hates anything that is modern. Why do you think I was attacked?" Richard showed them his walkie. Sawyer immediately pointed the gun at Richard.
"Why don't you hand that over to us?! Unless you want me to ruin that make up of yours with a bullet in your head!" Richard handed Sawyer the walkie.
"Go ahead. It doesn't work here. There is no signal." Jack started advancing toward the cabin...
"Be careful in there!" Jack looked back at Sawyer and nodded his head at Sawyer assuring him that he would be fine.

It was incredibly dark inside. Jack heard a chair rocking back and forth. He advanced toward the sound. What Jack saw was the most shocking thing he had ever seen since he has been on this island!!
"I am dreaming! It can't be you!" Jack turned around and saw another person.
"Sarah?" He turned towards another direction and he saw yet another familiar person.
"This isn't happening! None of this is real! Who are you people?!!" They all approached him and began to speak to Jack..................................................................................................

(Outside of the cabin)

"It's pretty quiet in there. So you wanna tell me who kicked your a_ _? Was it Mr. Ecko?" Richard just kept quiet and stared at the cabin. A smile began to form in his face.
"For someone who got their a_ _ kicked you sure aren't holding a grudge." Richard stared at Sawyer and seemed annoyed now.
"Do you ever shut up?" Just then the door open and Jack emerged. He seemed calm.
"What happened?!" Jack went down the stairs as they creaked beneath him.
"It looks like we are partners. Give Richard the walkie Sawyer." Sawyer seemed shocked by this.
"Are you sure you know what you are doing?"
"Yes Sawyer I know what I am doing! Just give him the walkie dammit!!" Jack's watch began to beep. He tried to calm down. Sawyer gave the walkie back to Richard. He didn't seem pleased to take orders from Jack.
"Thank you Sawyer. I can't make the call here Jack. There is no signal. We have to walk about a half a mile away from here before I can. Not to mention it is late and my people are already asleep."
"It's okay. We can make camp and tomorrow morning you better make that call you got that?" Jack stared at Richard intensely.

Richard smiled and nodded his head.
"You got it Jack." Sawyer looked very confused.
"Just what the hell happened in there?!" Jack started to go ahead of the other guys and Sawyer and Richard followed suit.
"Which way is our beach Richard?"
"Keep heading South-west. We will run into it. We are not that far off." Jack then turned around and stared at Richard.
"This better work. For everyone's sake."
"It has to Jack. Otherwise we will all be dead."

Day 31-3

LSHIAOME (Laugh so Hard I ARZT Out My Eyes)

Miles head cocked up at an odd angle, and his pupils constricted slightly. He looked towards the forest and left Karl, Arzt and Gabriel without a word. Karl looked at his father with one eyebrow cocked. “OK, then. See you later.”

“Is he ok?” Arzt wondered aloud.

“I’m not sure it would be wise for us to separate so much. Maybe we should follow.”

“Exactly what I was thinking!” Arzt declared. He spun rapidly to follow Miles, but tripped on his, well, no, he tripped on the, no not that either. Well, he tripped. There wasn’t anything in particular to trip on, but that never stopped Arzt before. As he fell, the contents of his pack spilled out on the jungle floor, and the trio knelt down to pick it all up.

“Where did you get this?” Gabriel asked suspiciously, holding up the black rod that had been shot at smokey the previous day.

“Hey, gimmee that!” Arzt protested, snatching it back using his superior coordination and stuffing it in his jeans pocket. That is, trying to stuff it in his pocket, but then he missed his pocket and dropped it on the floor. He was successful, however, without incident, in picking it up, and the second time, it found a nice home in Arzt’s pants. Wow. Well, not a nice home, but a home. Well, maybe not a home. More like… a rental maybe? No, I got it, it’s like staying in your uncle Billy-Bob’s extra room, which used to be a garage, or really could still be a garage if they moved the oil stained couch. Or maybe like one of those shacks in Cuba that Bill and I got to see, ‘cept not really taken that good a care of. Did they ever bring you to Garbage City Bill? The river of garbage under the freeway? Yeah, it was nast-Y. Just junk after junk with wrappers (not rappers, mind you), carborators, ovens, wood, Dog feces and the like flowing down a hill into this little area where people lived making houses out of all the junk. Well, that is probably the BEST description of where the little black rod now lived.

“I got it from a friend of mine. I’m on a mission, see.”

“What is your mission, dad?” Karl asked, and Arzt brightened.

“That’s the first time you’ve called me, “dad,’” he said with a small tear, causing Gabriel to look away in obvious emotional escalation. In truth, he was rolling his eyes. Karl and Arzt shared a touching cheesy gordita crunch moment, and then Arzt said, “I’m here to kidnap Benjamin Linus, and escape this bloody place.”

Karl shivered for a moment. “Ben? He’s dangerous, man, you can’t, I mean… wow.”

“We can and will,” Arzt said confidently. “Let’s go see where that guy went to, eh?” The group exited the Orchid and they heard a faint metallic humming, as if machinery were working somewhere. They attributed it to the station and pressed on.

The trio walked in the direction that Desmond, Matthias, and now Miles had gone. Not but a few hundred feet away, they saw Desmond holding a shotgun pointed at Goodwin, who was on the ground, and Miles was starting to stand up a few feet away.

"That's enough, Goodwin. Why don't you get off my man and play nice?" Desmond had the forethought to grab the gun, and Miles was relieved to have the much larger man off him with his hands raised.

“Well why don’t you get off MY man and play nice?” a voice from behind Desmond said. Everyone stared at the woman who was in a jean jacket and had medium length brown hair.

“Harper!” Goodwin exclaimed ecstatically. She had a gun at the base of Desmond’s skull, and he lowered the gun to the ground and placed his hands behind his head as Harper backed off. “How did you get here so soon?”

“This is a dangerous game you play, Mr. Stanhope,” she said back to him, and Goodwin suddenly looked suspicious.

“What are you talking about? You helped me with the plan?”

She turned her head to him and looked him in the eyes as she said, “Do not kill the children. I will oppose you if you do.”

“We’re doing all we can. You know that! Amy-“

At that point, Arzt sneezed, and Harper turned to face the three newcomers. “You!” she hissed, and suddenly, her form became hazy. She held out her arms and smoke poured from her sleeves as her body collapsed into nothingness. The smoke rushed over to Arzt and surrounded him, whispering into his ears.

Arzt scrambled to pull out the black rod, but he hesitated as the monster whispered to him. The smoke poured over him and the black rod began to spark as the monster attacked it. Arzt let go of the rod and stumbled backward, tripping over his son and landing on top of Gabriel. The black rod was held in the air by the monster as it began sparking and then exploded in a brilliant white flash.

Silence assaulted the ears of the group. Miles recovered quickest and did a quick somersault, coming up with the rifle. “Someone has gotta get me out of this place!” he demanded.

"Wow," Arzt said with a haunted look in his eye. "If what that thing said was right, then I can help you with that."

Cindy Chandler

Day 31-2

Cindy sat outside by the zoo with Amelia by her side, watching two lionesses fight. The growls were disconcerting as the two batted at each other with their paws.

“Seems everyone’s on edge today,” Cindy remarked. Amelia did not respond. “Harper said something about the kids being in danger,” Cindy told Amelia for what felt like the thirtieth time. It was about 4 hours after the Harper incident, and the two had been unable to catch up with her.

“I know, dearie, you said that.”

“We have to do something!” Cindy demanded.

“We don’t now where she went, or what she was doing, Cindy. Don’t worry your pretty head about it.”

Cindy opened her mouth to object, but caught some movement out of the corner of her eye. “Oh my gosh,” she said in fear. She grabbed onto Amelia’s arm. “Come with me, please,” she pleaded as she half dragged the old woman down the zoo pathway.

They turned around a corner and Cindy demanded, “Can you see him? Right there! Right there!”

A young British man arched his eyebrow at Cindy as Amelia responded, “Yes, I know Charlie. He and I have been speaking ever since you got here.”

Cindy stepped backward, aghast. “You, you... But he’s… dead, isn’t he?”

“Aye,” the two answered, straight faced, offering no further explanation.

“Listen,” Charlie said to the two, “this can’t wait anymore. You guys need to stop Harper. She Goodwin are going to kill everyone. He's at the Orchid. He has the gas, Amelia.”

“Oh no, he doesn’t.”

“Yes, it’ll be another purge.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Come with me, dear,” Amelia ordered, taking her hand and walking towards a hill/cliff/rock formation nearby. “Thank you, Charlie. We’ll take care of it.”

“Where are we going?” Cindy inquired.

“To catch Harper.”

“I don’t believe this,” Cindy protested as Amelia snapped several straps around the young woman. “Hang Glider?”

“I am Amelia Earhart,” Amelia answered. “I’ve been flying for almost 100 years, dearie. Well, let’s go then!” she said as forced Cindy to leap off the cliff with her. A draft caught the wing of a their two person hang glider, and they were flying to the other island.

Day 31-2

All About the Benjamin

Ben stood up to leave the Flame. He was turning the monitors off one by one and setting the passwords when he heard a voice.
“Mr. Linus, I presume?”
Ben looked up, startled. He was never startled. On the last screen, the computer monitor, was the face of a black man with a shaved head. He had very dark eyes, a black suit and a dark green shirt. “Who are you?”
“My name is Matthew, Mr. Linus,” the look on Matthew’s face made Ben uncomfortable. “You know I’ve been watching you.”
“How is this, Matthew? I have not seen you. Are you here on the island?”
“No, but soon perhaps. I have sent some of my friends to seen you. Have you met them yet?”
“No, we haven’t been introduced. Do they have names?”
“I’ll let them introduce themselves,” Matthew said. “They’re coming for you.”
Ben did his best to look the man in the eye, but he wasn’t really sure what camera was being used. So he just stared at the keyboard as he shut the computers down. “Let them come,” Ben replied, “I’ll be waiting.”

Ben rushed back to the barracks and looked over at Greta and Beatrice who were sitting in the kitchen. “Looks like we got some problems in the Orchid. The subway is still inoperable?”
“Yes, Benjamin,” Beatrice responded.
“Listen, I need you two to watch for me. Mikhail too. The island interlopers we have, this Mr. Straum, the second helicopter that landed, and now this next crew, this is too much. Whatever happens we HAVE to get the magnetic grid back up. I know Mikhail is busy with Kamino, but he needs to reroute the power from the coal plant and get a preliminary grid set up. Use the statue, use the Temple, it doesn’t matter. It needs to get done. There’s a new player involved now.”
“Who’s that?” Greta asked.
“I don’t know yet. A black man called Matthew something.”
“Abaddon,” Beatrice answered quietly with dread in her eyes. “I’ve seen him, Benjamin. I’ve seen him!” she repeated with urgency.
“How Biblical,” Ben observed. “He certainly doesn’t sound like a good fellow. Do we need to be scared?”
“I wouldn’t get comfortable,” Beatrice responded.
“That’s fine. I’m going to Straum, Hume, and the group at the Orchid. If the camera’s are correct, I think Goodwin is there, too. With the gas.”
“The gas?” Greta trembled. “How the heck did he get that?”
“I’m not sure. What is more pressing is why he hasn’t checked in yet. I don’t like this. I need more information. You two get working, and get Mikhail on it too. Kamino has to be ready soon. Make sure all is on track with that.”
“Of course, Benjamin. Good luck, and Namaste.”
