Dr. Sharpe - Is there a possibility that a printer in California could print up notepads, stickies, stationery, etc. with the IWS logo and eagle photos on it or do you only want to deal with Cafe Express. Once the set up is designed, it is a very easy job for a printer. I spoke with a good friend here in Canada who has her own printing company and she said it is a snap to do and the profit margin is good. The only problem with this that I can see would be the distribution and handling of orders that Cafe Express does now. Anyway, this is just food for thought.

Below is a listing of ideas that had been posted on the VCOE forum for consideration and discussion! I did not want them to slip away after all that hard work and everyone's time made in making suggestions - some of which have been used and some still to be considered.

I hope folks will continue to post their ideas and also add their thoughts and discussion.

So - here they are:

Joanie: 10/26/06 Having the ability to make a memorial/honor - graduation, anniversary, birthday/etc. on line in the form of an option on the support IWS Page w/an acknowledgement letter to be sent to the family/recipient and the donor.

Peppermint 10/26/06
Donations thru will bequeaths

Hikers 10/26/06
Real Estate closings - have your agent donate part of the commission to IWS thru the closing proceedings.

Hikers 10/26/06 IWS auction for a person to win a visit at banding time

Patti 10/26/06 postage stamps thru http://www.zazzle.com/zazzlegiving/

Troth 10/26/06 calendar

Hikers 10/28/06 Your art or photos on porcelain! Only $10.00 each www.dianesteele.com

Paula 11/1/06 Porcelain at Cafepress

Sandie 11/11/06 WalMart allows non profits to raise money in many ways and they match your fundraising efforts up to $1,000.00 Maybe a sale?

Bea 11/18/06 Become a member at IWS.org

Troth 1/8/07 Eagle Outfitters store in the mall here in Ventura - solicit?

Jann 1/18/07 Bumper stickers, decals and/or license plate frames that say: "Ask me about BALD EAGLES". On the Bumper sticker and possibly the decal, include the IWS logo.

cdn 1/19/07 eagle birthday cards with pictures of Cruz or K10 and K26, or any good shots of any of the IWS eagles (like the one Dr. Sharpe posted

Peppermint 1/19/07 I wish they would offer a variety of sets of cards like...all eagles...all fox...assortment, etc

kljinusa 1/19/07 I think a small booth at the Ventura Street Fairs (next one is 4th of July) or at events at the Fairgrounds

Peter where's the chick in the nest w/feather/eggs photo/cards?? Why to fundraise for IWS: We are definately in need of things for the eagle project because we still need to raise a lot of money to pay for the staff, incubation facility, etc. The helicopter lift is something we could work towards and I can put together a list of materials I will need for Pimu's renovation.

Hikers 1/22/07 paper ad soliciting for new members

Patti 1/22/07 I would not hesitate to purchase another $25 DVD put out by the IWS with 20 minutes of baby eaglet activity--maybe pipping (sp?) action, feeding & sibling interaction - and banding day dvd

Patti 1/25/07 As for corporate donors, what about PATAGONIA

Cumbrian 1/25/07 It would be nice to do one of Cruz ... from egg to date ... with all her history, and where she is now, on the date pages. Also I am sure that the IWS have lots of other Eagle photos like the one that Dr. Sharpe posted the other day of the Eagle that gets to keep her eggs this year, that would make an attractive one.

Also who knows the movie stars and celebrities that are into conservation .... Ted Danson, I think is Oceans ... Barbra Streisend ... these people and others were also discussed last year but I don't know if they are approachable etc........

cdn 1/25/07 What about Stephen Colbert

bird 1/25/07 pool to guess egg hatching dates

Peter 1/27/07 For our membership drive we got a few stores in Laguna Beach and eCatalina.com to give discounts to IWS members (with the membership card). Perhaps people could approach other stores in the Ventura/Camarillo/Santa Barbara... areas that might be interested in giving discounts. I think the more benefits members get, the more people might be interested in becoming one. We had stickers, sort of like the member stickers, made up for the stores to place in their windows.

Joanie 1/27/07 What about Fox Channel 11/ John Beard doing a followup

Peppermint 1/27/07 I've been wearing Eagle Eyes sunglasses for years....their main headquarters are in Westlake

Bee 1/27/07 One good source is the Kim Komando news letter that does a "Site of the Day"

Hikers 1/27/07 I am on auto email to 17 Troop Real Estate Office's in Ventura County, with approx. 670 agents, and 20 CEO's. I am going to attach the Channel Island LIVE page and the Contribution page with the T-shirts and Hats, ect.

Peter 1/28/07 I'm not familiar with how to sell things on Ebay, but if someone is, perhaps we could hold a virtual yard sale of unwanted/unneeded items from forum members and/or contributed items from businesses.

Cockney2 1/29/07 YouTube to share revenue with users.

Patti 1/29/07 Steve Thomas all the time. BMW dealership. / go to local shops you know to solicit gift certificates for raffle

Teddy Neal 1/29/07 selling bracelets? or give for incentives Right here on this website was a clickable ad for this site: http://www.ballyhoobands.com/?gclid=CMeOtZ...CFSJWFQodiUr4fw It might say, Bald Eagle or ?

Hikers 1/29/07 How about a contest involving the schools to raise money for Dr. Sharpe to visit a school. They could sell the bracelets to raise the money.

Nancy 1/29/07 at my local bird store Wild Birds Unlimited/ accepts donation jar

Joanie 1/30/07 calendar and donation boxes - maybe posters/flyers

It would be easy enough to enlarge them to 8x10 (these are small to fit the donation boxes). I could post them on our website for people to download and print out. If this is of interest, give me some suggestions on changes to the text (I could add a little more for an 8x10

Joanie 1/30/07 Also, to save ink/paper I would be interested in a repeated template where I could print 4 each of one design or 1 of each of the 4 designs on quality photo paper and cut them with our papercutter to leave out on the counter next to the donation box for someone to take with them...

Troth 1/30/07 OK, this donation box is an excellent idea to go to some of the local companies. I would change the wording to say Channel Island's Eagles to get more local interest and Catalina is part of the Channel Island chain. I would be willing to go to the malls and shops here in Ventura County to first see if they would be interested in giving a corporate donation or display the boxes in their locations. I like this idea.

Peter 1/30/07 A first shot at an 8 1/2 x 11 poster can be found in pdf format at
http://www.iws.org/bald_eagles/Fundraising...ers_poster1.pdf
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Cockney2 1/30/07 I would love a calendar, a page for each month, with different pictures of our eagles (Catalina and "our Channel Island" eagles) with one of Harpo's tidbits on each page.

kljinusa 1/30/07 Here's another idea for getting the word out. The Ventura County Star is offering the nationally based citizen journalist website, yourhub.com, as a feature in the paper each Tuesday and they are encouraging people to join it and write about local community events. Best of all, IT'S FREE!

Here's the article about it: http://www.venturacountystar.com/vcs/opini...5294729,00.html

OjaiHikers has a community base of people with money, that's another great idea. I saw the Donation box in the IWS office;Downtown Ventura could use a few of those. Some of us locals could do a pickup on a weekly basis..

Patti 1/31/07 Places to put boxes? Dr. Christine Sellers, a veterinarian in Santa Barbara; Dr. Ron Dalzell (vet) on Ralston in Ventura; Dr. James Gray on Thompson Blvd (Ventura); Tiffany Margolin is fabulous; There's a large vet practice in CAM They are near the Las Posas Estates; Dr. Amy Worell in West Hills, San Fernando Valley - 7606 Fallbrook Avenue, 818-883-2600;

Nancy 1/31/07 I think I did mention when I suggested donation boxes that at bird type/nature stores or vets is a good idea

and: Also at Pet Smart where I go, when you use your ATM card or credit card they have a question that pops up if you would like to give a dollar to the animal rescue organization in Contra Costa County and you either say yes or no. That maybe another way, but I'm not sure how that works or how you go about incorporating that.

Troth 2/1/07 Sometimes people see donation boxes and just walk past them but I have noticed in the past that if there is a box of those See's Chocolate bars sitting somewhere people will dig in their wallets to pull out money for chocolates.

Skellis 2/1/07 How about putting collection boxes at Catalina Expressw (of course if they agree) to catch the tourists and regulars and IP

Patti 2/1/07 Pet HeadQuarters and a retired veterinarian I loved both sell/sold See's chocolate bars at their counters...for Concerned People For Animals. I used to go directly toH the CPFA director's home to pick up Easter chocolates they promote. You can actually special order if you're really into it. (CPFA has a great local spay/neuter program.)

The Camarillo Health Care District office/gift shop also sells See's Candies. Must be a fundraiser item for themselves.

Hikers 2/3/07 Yesterday, I attached the membership page to my company auto e-mail of 640 agents. My goal is to send out an e-mail once a week with a different flyer attached to the page. The subject title read ' Channel Islands Bald Eagle Restoration Program ".

Hikers 2/4/07 By The Way, Dr. Pete, sent me a flyer, he calls the CRUZERS Flyer.

Hikers 2/6/07 A Marketing Committee:

Now that I have these beautiful flyers, that can be used as a poster for windows and bulletin boards. I thought they could also be mailed out to our sphere of influence.

I also have a donation membership page with an order form for T-shirts, DVD, and caps.

So, I thought we could mail out the two pages together. 10 people or 1,000 people.

Hand writing the envelopes is perfectly fine, I think more people will read them that way, anyway.

If you really want to go all out, buy IWS stamps to put on the letters.

I'm sure if we put our minds together we can come up with a project once a month.

E-mail me through the foram if you would like to attach the membership donation page to the flyers I have already e-mailed some of you. E-mail me if you would like the flyers.

I send out 1,000 custom newsletters a month. I am going to forward the flyer to the company that prints the newsletter and have them attach the flyer.

Hikers 2/6/07 Here is our baby at the Ojai Library in a flyer box I made with 30 flyers in it. I

Kruzmisl 12/28/06 When someone posts on utube, is there a link to the group?

RAFFLE THOUGHTS:

Patti 1/19/07 Paper prizes are fine with me...adoption papers or other goodies that they can mass produce (eggs signed by IWS crew)

Peppermint 1/19/07 many people yearned for a dirty egg!!! Photos, cards, eggs signed by the crew, etc would all be great.

Patti 1/19/07 IWS logo could be adhered to clean eggs and autographs added

Lala 1/22/07 The Ventura County Fair already had an existing booth manned by Channel Islands National Park and it did feature our 'baby' and her story...Maybe they could set aside a portion of their booth to inform everyone of our group???

Peppermint 1/23/07 Ventura County Fair: because booths are pricey, I would suggest asking if we could maybe....help...with the Channel Islands booth?? Can they get live internet feed to their booth and could we could have the nest up on the screen?

Troth 1/24/07 I think a fundraing committee is needed to get funds from other sources instead of just asking the forum members for money

Patti 1/25/07 like future videos for purchase. DVD's could also be raffle prizes from the camera fundraiser (if we do it) - of nursery activity

Peter 1/27/07 video clips and perhaps a "2007 Eagle Season" DVD.

Peppermint 1/27/07 I'd like to suggest maybe going for the video camera now.....helicopter NEXT year? Or helicopter service as a year end drive AFTER adopting nests.

Patti 1/29/07 Steve Thomas BMW dealership in

Harpo 1/29/07 I wonder how many of those eagle IWS stickers Peter has - maybe one in each tax/donation letter to the donors (can't display a letter but stickers ..)

Bird 1/29/07 does anyone know what to say to/how to approach big businesses to get a corporate sponsorship?

Bee 1/30/07 A drawn-up form letter, with a copy of our flyer, could be sent or hand-delivered to any and all.

kruzmisl 1/30/07 One thing business often help with is putting something in the window like a poster or decal. It's a "soft" way of getting to know them and later they might donate, but lot's of people can get exposed. The one thing people will usually contribute to, is anything that promotes education for kids. Ours is certainly a theme that could lend itself to some programs.

Troth 1/30/07 I suggested Eagle Outfitters and Eagle America clothing stores

Harpo 1/30/07 we should do two "arms" here - corporate and grass roots

Troth 2/1/07 Put out/sell candy bars (see's)

kljinusa1/31/07 Here's another idea for getting the word out. The Ventura County Star is offering the nationally based citizen journalist website, yourhub.com, as a feature in the paper each Tuesday and they are encouraging people to join it and write about local community events. Skellis 2/1/07 donation boxes at Island Packers and Catalina Express

Hikers 2/3/07 I attached the membership page to my company auto e-mail of 640 agents

Hikers 2/6/07 Donation box w/flyers at local library

Bee 2/8/07 flyers on bulletin board at local vet office, pet store, library

Hikers 2/8/07 address labels for use on mail

Paula 2/10/07 banding day video for sale

Hula 2/16/07 Do you guys in California recycle cans and bottles for 5cents like we do in Hawaii? Many schools and churches here have placed ads that they will collect them for you if you're too tired or lazy to turn them in yourselves and were just going to throw them in the trash anyway. Woody and I get about $50 a month just from turning in our own soda and beer cans. If IWS puts an ad in the paper that they will pick up cans/bottles for recycling and then one of the locals is willing to take a weekend a month to go get them, that might be a nice income. Someone could chair a committee to contact local bars and restaurants who will donate.

Paula 2/16/07 auction of Peter's cookies!

John 2/28/07 A "friend" raiser - introduce one friend to the forum

Manu 3/1/07 mass mailing at appropriate times letting folks know what's going: eggs - chicks - fledging

Troth 3/2/07 nominate Peter for Animal Planet (each year)

Skellis 4/13/07 http://picasaweb.google.com/sylviakellison...042641433288146 statues

Peter 4/14/07 ebay auction

Denny 5/9/07 wing bling

Sara 5/30/07 garage sale - craig's list for leftover items

Hikers 6/7/07 virtual cupcake sale

Ladydi0363 6/15/07 we need A63 items in cafepress

Bea 6/23/07 I think we should have a new Thread under Fundraising on which will be listed services that our members can provide where a percentage of the service cost would be donated to the IWS. This idea originates from Hulabird long ago offering her remote computer repair services for a donation to IWS, and also contacting my DH Ralph for his website services where the service cost will go to IWS. I think there may be other members that can offer their services and would be very happy to do so to help the IWS.

Lala 8/6/07 eagle cookbook

snoopysmom3 8/7/07 corporate matching donations to employee donations

Has anybody mention Post Cards ? With IWS in the back with a one line description of the photograph.
They could be sold by the unity or in a little booklet, or as an accordeon folder, perhaps smaller in size.
Another idea, Posters in different sizes and different numbers of screen captures.
Order one (example from PhotoBucket or other host site) and reproduce at a local shop.
I think it would be a seller and money maker. Captures are difficult to print because of size and weight,
but would look great as a mosaïc poster.

Aline ... funny you should mention posters ... I have been working on an idea ... to produce a poster 20" x 30" as a pdf file which will allow members to take the file to any printer who can print out the poster, at that size. This came about because of an article in one of my computer magazines explaining how to use old/or any 4"x 6" photographs.

Once I have it in a working format it will allow me to imput either 72 or 96 photographs for each poster.

Is this something that would be of interest to members? I would appreciate any feedback re size etc.

Pretty nervy, LL, to use as your signature 'Silent half of Cumbrian' ... you must be forgetting that there are photos - both still and video - commemorating your 'Teapot Dance' ;) Perhaps we could 'sell' those to some of the newer members as a Fundraiser???

And, yes, I would be interested in the poster .... just need to find a way to raise some money with it. If you are 'donating' your time/effort to this project then at the very least, a voluntary contribution to IWS would be in order for the use of the template.

Joanie  Not sure that me doing the 'Teapot Dance' would be a great fundraiser!

Yes, my original idea was to produce the poster/s, one for each nest, that's the work in progress at present, trying to get it to work as I want it to. Then I was going to contact Peter as to how to proceed, so as to make it into a fundraiser.

Does CafePress offer the ability to print posters from files provided to them - you know, like all the stuff Peter currently has available thru them? Hmmmmmm.......

phooey - they are doing maintenance so will have to look later! I didn't know they printed cookbooks - that's how IWS will be doing the Eagle Cookbook project!

Dr Sharpe told me that there are still many copies of The Eagles of Catalina left and he can burn as many as we need. There are many people who've joined the forum since we were all buying it.

Elaine Ruth posted this over on the VCOE website, so I am reposting it over here. She's referring to the little stuffed chick in the IWS nursery.

<This is the eagle that they use to talk to the chicks in the eggs. If you squeeze it, it plays the call of an adult eagle.>

Dr Sharpe,
Any chance of buy one of these??? I know they would go like hotcakes or chocolate chip cookies! If you could get a supply of these and sell them on your IWS web page, I think they would really be popular and bring in lots of 'donations'. I would really love to have one.

I bought some at www.wildrepublic.com and give the to relatives who know how I love the eagles to peek their interest and try to recruit them.It is so cute. I would rather buy them to help IWS  ;)
