I am at the discomfort of asking you guys for help. ![]() This problem, which I'll explain to you in a minute, started 2 weeks ago on April 2, 2010. And it has been a curse upon my computer for quite sometime now. I don't know what caused this, but that's not what my objection is. What it is though, is finding out how to get rid of this problem, and making sure it never, ever, happens again. (Which, by the way, is a fantasy dream if you have products from companies such as Microsoft.) The problem is that whenever I try to play a Video Game on my PC, it lags. And by lag, I mean the frame - rate drops from my default 40 - 30, all the way to 2. The video screen is completely out of sync with the audio, and the entire experiences drops apart. Its a universal problem; meaning that it affects all the games that are installed, not just KotOR or Dragon Age: Origins. Here, let me show you a video on what happens so you guys will have a clear view of what my problem is. ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYbfHgy67mE (The video is still processing.) Now, I'm sure many of you would like to know the run-down on my system specs; that's not a problem for me. ![]() Processor: Intel® Core(tm)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz Graphic Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GS Clock Speed: 2399 MHz Physical Memory: (In other-words: A RAM) 3.99 GB VRAM: 512 MB Graphic Card Driver Version: 197.13 Sound Adapter: Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio) Sound Driver Version: 6.0.1.5657 Operating System: Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium (64 bit) Direct X Version: DirectX 10.0 (Aug2009) or later If you know how to fix this problem, then don't hesitate to post. I would gladly appreciate it. |

Oh god 411 you poor soul I truly feel sory for you, a computer with these really good settings. SH*T man. :( ! Well KOTOR seems OK does mine runs like that sometimes if my laptop starts to overheat or if I have FRAPS on a hight fps perhaps try putting that on 29.7 (or whatever it is) I get horrid lag in some places on Dantooine in K1+2 most of the time (mainly K1) Does KOTOR II run better or worse? As for Dragon Age I haven't got a clue perhaps your memory on your computer is getting full or turn down some of the settings in game ( but if you can run ME2 lag free like in the Mordin vid I'm shcoked DA lags.) Try re-installying it or your graphics card or processor is faulty? I hope I helped and sorry for your lag ![]() Although i'm not religous my 'prayers' are with you, there can't not be Ep1 SE, A Final Stand and Legacy of the Exile! |

Are all your games on the same hard (disk) drive? |

It runs at the same pace as KotOR I.
Mass Effect 1 and 2 are also affected by this. That's why I said it's a universal problem. As for my storage (free-space) on my computer, it's currently at 29 gigabytes. And believe believe, I've had that amount of gigabytes since November 2009.
Yes, they are. |

I'm no expert, but it may be a problem with your GPU/Video Card. I'd try getting the newest driver(s) just be safe, and try to find out if there's anyway to see if that's the specific problem. It could also be your processor, BUT I think you may have noticed when you were running other non-game applications. That's my "two cents" here anyways. |

My vote goes for the hard drive. Could be the video card too - maybe the driver is faulty... I do remember that Nvidia posted an issue concerning the latest update (a while ago, so it's not the latest anymore), it made the fan go all crazy. Many people experienced overheated cards, there's a risk the video card is damaged if you got that update (version nr.: 196.75). |

I agree with the others perhaps your video card is faulty, I would of suggetsed the disk was scratched but then you said it was a universal problem. Like I said about DA turn down some setting's? |

Thanks for the tech support guys! (Honestly, I really appreciate you guys taking the time to help me out.)I don't think it's my processor or hard-drive that's the problem, because of the fact that all my other non-related video game applications run smooth and normal. And everything with the hard-drive, along with the processor, was the same back then as it is now. This problem began in April, 2010. It's most likely that my Video Card is the problem here as I bought the computer back in 2008, and the default driver version of the Card was 196.75. And along with the lag issues, I've been having a few FAN related issues as well. (The thing makes incredibly loud noises.) I might have to send this computer to a IT Tech Department. (PS: This problem mirrors a related issue I had back in March 2008.) |

I talked to a Friend of mine who is a computer techy and he suggested turning down the settings of the games and if that doesn't work then he says it might be a problem with the computer. |

I'm not quite an expert tech guy, but I would check to see if you have any programs running in the background, because that accounts for a lot of CPU usage. Big programs such as iTunes and Google like to have apps (or even a full program) open in the background. This can affect the quality of framerate in computer games as well as how smoothly other programs run. Also, I would check your Dragon Age disc on someone else's computer, see if there's a problem with the disc itself. Believe it or not, that can happen from time to time, even in this day and age, when game designers spend years fine-tuning games to prevent such a problem. I wouldn't worry about KOTOR, it didn't look that bad. I've had problems with frame rate in KOTOR far worse than that, and they've pretty much just gone away by themselves. Try reloading an old save or creating a new character, and the problem will most likely go away. Another thing you might want to do is scan for viruses. Yes, this may seem like a silly solution, but a nasty virus can give you any of the forementioned problems. As an avid gamer, I'm sure you like to download mods and stuff just like the rest of us, and the fact of the matter is, you just can't trust all of the sites that offer these downloads. Or any sites, for that matter. These days, you don't even need to download anything to get a virus! I'm sure you already considered this, but I just thought I'd throw it out there in case you hadn't. And ask around as if your life depended on it! It's important to get 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th opinions before coming to a decision that could cost you money. Watch Youtube videos on fixing problems with lag, and Google your ass off. Post on message boards, ask friends and family, and most importantly, try everything you can to solve the problem yourself WITHOUT physically opening up your computer, messing with your BIOS settings, or buying anything new. If none of these solutions work, I suggest you take it in to be fixed. Really, it is easier to purchase a new video card and install it (I've done it myself), but if you do it wrong, you're basically screwed. Plus, if it turns out the video card isn't the problem, you just wasted your money. If you take it somewhere, they'll charge you, but they'll be able to identify the problem for sure and maybe give you an affordable solution. Hope I could help, just let me know if you find a solution. I'll keep you in my prayers lol |

The maximum about of gigabytes that my current hard-drive can hold up to is 584. Currently, I'm using 563 gigabytes of it; which means that I only have 21.3 free space left. And I think I finally know what the problem is. Thanks to some folks over at Lucasforum, I've finally discovered the lagging issues; it's a combination of an overheated graphic card, an overheated fan GPU, and an overheated processor. The maximum Intelburn tests I got is this, and the standard one is this. As for what I got on the GPU, the result of that testing can be found here. The way it works is that the program (I was using oZONE 3d) tests on how your GPU, and FAN temperatures work. If the number is above 100, then a problem has occurred, and fix must be found for it. The result of my testing was 115 which is "maddening", and as a result of the high number, the program crashed. I think you guys see the point here. Any suggestions on what I should do now? |

WOW! I'd do the following. 1) Turn off the computer! You need to cool it down, if that utility speaks the truth it's only a matter of time before your computer collapses. 98C! Mine is 41C and it's "OK!". So leave it off for a few hours... 2) As you have a Nvidia card and has probably been affected by that update-changing the GPU fan speed you need to update it immediately! http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-uk ...Then restart. 3) Run the tests again and see if you can get a lower results this time... You should NOT play games as your hardware can't cool itself down enough = overheat = problems! HEAVY problems! 4) If you get a lower number then you're OK! If not... We'll get to that later, if necessary.
