I'm writing a review for this game, out in Europe now, hopefully coming here soon. Rogue Trooper, the game, is based off of a comic series by the same name. Its about a guy named Rogue (duh) who fights masses of "Norts" by himself. I'll go into more detail later. Anyway, its a really fucking fun game. Sort of a cross of Halo, Gears of war, and Splinter cell. Yes, its a 3rd person shooter. Idk who might get turned off by that. Its also a PS2 port, from what I've heard, or a sequel to the PS2 game. Story: 7/10. The story is decent, not amazing, but its okay. Rogue Trooper is this blue guy with a bio-chip in his head (just like his squadmates). His 3 companions, Bagman, Gunnar, and Helm, all die early in the game. He cuts their bio-chips out, inserts Bagman into his backpack, and I'm sure you can figure out the other 2. They help him by supplying him with weaponry, upgrades, hints, as well as many other things. They still talk to each other and stuff. Its a kind of weird system. The cutscenes are really cool, too. Its just a little cheesy for me. Gameplay: 9.5/10 Gameplay is this games real allure. Its played sort of like Battalion Wars, except its way more intuitive and fun. Gameplay itself is a mix of Battalion Wars and Gears of War, with the cover/ blindfiring system of sorts (you'll know what I mean when you play). Gameplay features are just fucking Awesome. For starters, once you get bagman you can salvage "points" from dead enemies by walking over them. This creates a deep and fun upgrade system, being able to enhance your weapons, as well as create new ones and manufacture ammo/ nades/ medical stuff. There's weapons like your regular assault rifle (as well as a sniper for it) a Shotgun, a pistol, many different grenade, and more I haven't unlocked yet. The stealth system, while not very deep, is a lot of fun, you can crouch behind someone, walk up to them real slow, and then perform a "Killmove". The gameplay here is just so much fun and so immersive, I found myself lost in the game and checking the clock to find it being like 2 hours later. Plus, the AI is really good. Controls: 8/10 The controls do what they need to. Its controlled sort of like Battalion Wars. most of the things are pretty easy to do, nothing fancy here but it gets the job done. Minus two points for the clunky grenade throwing system, as well as the sub-par cover system. Graphics: 9/10 The graphics, while not important, are really GOOD. The whole game just looks wonderful, from the characters to the world around you. It looks good for a Wii game, not Metroid Prime 3 good, but good. Lasting Appeal: 8/10. After you beat the game, there's Massacre mode, where the enemies are just fucking evil. After you beat that, there's Multiplayer mode, which you can still play with one player. Its a co-op type of thing, where you can either battle to get to a destination and lose as few lives as possible, (customizing your characters before you go), or there's like a Horde mode type of thing, where you try to survive and endless onslaught of enemies for a certain amount of time. I found the Horde type thing REALLY challenging, and its just a lot of fun. Overall: 8.5/10 Its not a perfect game, but its a damn good game, and a damn FUN game, which is always important. With good AI, a good story mode that'll take a while, and some fun modes you can play with friends, Rogue Trooper is just really, really fun, and if you're looking to add another game to your collection, wait til this gem comes out. |

I heard the NA version might have online... That'd make for some awesome co-op games, even if its only 2P. |
