So my anti-spyware keeps checking something called "C:\Faux Virus\carny ride.exe," but doesn't do anything to it. It usually stops checking my computer there too. Questions: 1) Anybody know what it is or if it's dangerous to my computer? 2) What can I do to remove it? |

Did a quick bit of research on the matter, and here's your answer my friend. Hope this helps, I won't bother rephrasing it as this should give you enough insight into the problem.
People with the same problem as you, usually encounter this type of malware at the end of their search. They then become worried and search for that path. But as the post above tells us the path is not a real path, merely a name to mislead you, they find nothing. If your antivirus can't find it on your computer, and you've looked for the path and can't find it either, then the above post should relieve you. Interesting. At least it'll put my paranoia to rest. Also, in a somewhat related note, my free Norton subscription that came with my computer decided to end today, despite having 58 more free days of usage. Edited by Kaneda, Jan 10 2009, 07:25:09 PM.

Strange, I don't use Norton though, have had bad experiences with it in the past. |

My suggestion would be to remove Norton from your computer and use AVG, AntiVir, or Avast. Free and easy to use. In my experience, those work a lot better than Norton or McAfee. As for that malware, if you are still concerned about it, you can use a program called Combofix. Once you get that, boot into safemode and run it from there. It usually does a hell of a job to remove what the others don't get. |
