I've been working on this for a week, and I decided to post this here. In this story, Metallica and Megadeth don't exist and never existed, it's an AU fic with a twist. Feedback is welcome. Chapter 1 Mid 80's, southwestern Minnesota The motel clerk looked up from his newspaper when he heard the door open. It was a hot spring day in rural southwestern Minnesota, the morning uneventful so far. A group of three men approached the desk. All three of them were tall, all of them wearing jeans and t-shirts. The one with blond hair came forward, a cool look in his pale blue eyes. "How may I help you?", asked the clerk, his heavy Minnesotan accent sharp to their ears. "One room for the night", said the blond man with a soft Southern drawl. "All right, here's your key", he said. The blond man nodded and the clerk went back to his newspaper. The three men went upstairs to their room to the second floor. It was spartan with a long hallway covered in dull gray carpet and cream walls, each door made of plywood. He opened the door and they went inside. The room had two beds with a brown comforter, a dresser, nightstand, lamp and TV. The other men nodded and set down their bags. One of them, a tall skinny man with auburn hair peeked out onto the hallway and hastily locked the door, while the other man with bright red hair closed the curtains. The blond man opened a bag and took out wads of cash tied with rubber bands. The men counted out all the money and put it back in the bag, satisfied they had the right amount. "How long are we gonna stay here?", asked the auburn haired man. "We're gonna lay low for a while, I don't want the cops on our tail, Cliff", said the blond man. "He's right, we're gonna lay low in this place and then we hightail it outta here", said the redhead. "I hope we won't get too bored, Dave. There ought to be something to do here", said Cliff. "Yeah, it was a good idea to come to Minnesota after robbing that bank in Missouri", said Dave. "Reckon it was a good idea, Dave. But we can't get into any trouble, this is a small town and people might get suspicious", warned James. "We know that. There ought to be a bar or something here, and I hear the ladies up here are fine", said Dave, a gleam in his eyes. "Dave, the ladies' man. Yeah, I reckon there's some fine ladies, Minnesota girls are hot", chuckled James. "We got you, James. There ought to be some hot chicks in Minnesota", said Cliff. |

I like this already Vanessa!!! I like the thought of James, Cliff, and Dave as bank robbers. I'm sure that they will get themselves into all sorts of trouble.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone Chapter 2 David Ellefson leaned forwards on the stool behind the counter. It was a slow day at the 7-11, and he had checked the merchandise earlier, leaving him free for the time being. He perused the latest issue of Guitar World, reading an interview with Iron Maiden. Man, I can't wait until the next album comes out, I hope they come to Minnesota on the next tour, he mused. His gaze went to the cane leaning against the counter. David had been a gifted guitar player until he had been thrown from his horse on his parents' farm. After several operations, the accident had left him with a permanent limp and required him to use a cane. The injury prevented him from playing guitar, as it aggravated his injury. David could have qualified for disability, but he had taken the job at the 7-11, refusing to give in. I'm not a cripple, I just need a cane. And it's embarrassing to go on public assistance, at least I can still walk , he thought. The automatic doors opened and a young man came in. He was tall and muscular, his flaming red hair falling to his shoulders, wearing an Iron Maiden shirt and black jeans. "Hi, you into Maiden?", asked David. "Yeah, nice shirt, kid. Give me a pack of Winstons", he said. David noticed he had a California accent, he wasn't from around here. "That'll be five bucks", said David. The man gazed at him with cool hazel eyes, handing him the money, putting it back in his wallet and walking out of the store. |

Wow this is a sick idea I'm loving the bank robber angle - hell a criminal element always makes a story rather on the exciting side from the get go And as for David, I feel bad for him, but I get the feeling his life's gonna turn around in some way when all the others get involved in it. This story looks like it's going to turn into an absolute cracker! I'm really looking forward to what comes next! |

Dave sounds uber sexy hot as usual. But poor David. I have a friend who was in a car accident and can no longer play her instrument. I really don't know what I would do if this ever happened to me...I can't really do anything else. I really feel bad for David. Poor dude. This is kick ass so far Vanessa!

Chapter 3 That evening, Cliff, James and Dave were at the local bar, the North Star. It was a country-western bar that resembled the bar in the Blues Brothers. The dark cavernous room had a long bar on one side and a stage on the other, the stage protected by chicken wire. The floor was covered with sawdust that crunched under their boots, a brightly colored jukebox playing Searching by Lynyrd Skynyrd. "What do you think of the place so far?", asked James, taking a swig of beer. "It's small but decent. There was this kid at the 7-11, but he was a cripple, I let it slide", said Dave, drinking his Rum and Coke. "I suppose they don't see many outsiders here. But we ought to keep a low profile, we're gonna really stick out", said Cliff, drinking his Bloody Mary. The men sat their table and drank, watching the room. They didn't look too different from the people, with their jeans and flannel shirts. Most of the other people were farmers, most of them drinking and shooting pool. The song on the jukebox was now My Home's in Alabama, several couples dancing to the slow song. The door opened. Dave's eyes narrowed when he saw the kid from the 7-11. He was of average height, dark blond hair falling to his shoulders. He wore jeans and a John Deere shirt, slowly hobbling with his cane. "That's the crippled fellow I saw", he muttered. "Eh, he looks harmless", shrugged James. David limped over to the bar. "A Coke, and can you please bring it to my table", he said apologetically. The waitress came over to his table with the drink, as he eased himself on to the seat. David smiled at her and drank his Coke. He tried not to feel envious as the other people drank alcohol. I can't drink, it'll interfere with my medication, he thought sadly. He raised an eyebrow when he saw the man from the 7-11. He was with two other men, one with auburn hair and the other with blond hair. I should just leave them alone, it's not nice to bother people, he reminded himself. David sighed as the jukebox played California Dreamin'. Yeah, I want to see California, but not with a bum hip. California Dreamin' indeed, he thought sadly. |

I feel really bad for David- I can totally empathize The word "cripple" makes me cringe, but I know that it's a sort of common phrase that these guys would totally use.I'm anxious to see how David and the rest of the guys mix it up. Maybe they can help his self esteem, and he can show them how fast his mind works even if his body isn't quite as fast. |

Poor David. He needs a hug. Maybe James, Dave, or Cliff will make an overture towards him and he will find some new friends, even if they are bank robbers. Kudos to him not drinking while on medication. I had a friend who was on meds and she drank all the time on them and then would wonder why she felt so shitty. I love this so far and can't wait to see where it goes. |
