The search engine has never worked for me, so apologies for everyone if there is a similar thread...

I'm throwing a ball for everyone who loves and respects Metallica's music.
Discuss about what makes you happy when you listen to them.
Babble anything about Metallica's music... just be positive (I don't want fights about how much better they were "in the old days").
Just shout out your appreciation, even silly little things !! You don't have to write an essay, you can just say forexample "I'm just listening to RTL and I friggin' love it" or whatever... it doesn't have to be anything fancy. :nanner2:

I'll start...
I just love it when I listen to "The Day That Never Comes" and I want to sing along with the guitar solos. That's one of the songs that makes me wanna do that every time. :biggrin

Yesterday morning I heard The Unforgiven on the radio, and they rarely play Metallica on the radio especially in the morning, and when I heard that intro I freaked out, I was so happy, best way to start a day! :D

I love their softer side more. I also think that Loard and Reload lyrically are the strongest ones. Too bad there are no big ballads now (well except Unforgiven 3, but they did their best to make it sound as heavy as possible like they were almost afraid it sounded too mellow)
so yeah, Outlaw Torn is a masterpiece for me and I think they would never have guts again to release a song like that
Mama Said, Hero of the Day, Bleeding Me
of course The Unforgiven 2 which is one of my favorite songs ever - it's so much better than unforgiven 1 - it has this thick emotion and doesn't sound overproduced to me
The Memory Remains - the guitars are awesome especially in the end
No Leaf Clover, I Disappear - absolute hits
even in Master of Puppets I prefer that melodic side to the heavy one - I'm always blown away by the beginning of Welcome Home and Damage Inc.
One is my favorite in terms of how drums sound
also I'd say that Ride The Lightning is VERY underrated - to me it's better that Master of Puppets and it's amazing they recorded it when they were so young - For Whom the Bell Tolls, Creeping Death, Fade To Black - how old were they? It's just overwhelming how mature and stadium-like those songs sound
it's not that I'm not a big fan of heavier stuff but first I love them for being so melodic)

I always remember one morning at my old job... it was a difficult morning. I had probably slept only like 2-3 hours because of my insomnia and I was really tired and cranky.
I had a cup of coffee and sat down feeling miserable. The warehouse was right outside my room and the boys put the stereo on and after a while I heard very familiar sound, the first guitars of the Battery...
The boys put the volume up and when the song really started (you know what I'm talking about...) it felt like my room started trembling, because the stereo speakers were placed so that they touched the walls of my room.
I woke up immeadiately and I felt like a new person. I got so much energy from that song... it was amazing to hear Battery as loud as it gets first thing in the morning in the office. :rockdevil:
My day got a new start and I survived it because of that. :biggrin
I focking love Battery !!
That moment when the song really starts... the riff, it's amazing. :nanner2:

I always shiver when I listen to The Memory Remains with the San Francisco Symphony and James says "Sing it baby" and the crowd just starts singing.
I just watched M&S yesterday...again

EDIT 1: Yuh, Like I said, I'd add more over time. I didnt have enough time to go into detail the other day.

I love Kirk's guitar parts in Turn The Page... They absolutely send chills up my spine. That whole song just makes me cry. I feel that song was originally written FOR METALLICA. They collectively serve it so much justice - which is what "covering a song" is all about. James puts so much emotion into singing it. Possibly because they personally know the ups and downs of being in the music buisiness. They have a connection, therefore the final deliverance is spinetingling..
"Out there in the spotlight you're a million miles away. Every ounce of energy you try and give away. The sweat pours out your body like the music that you play. Later in the evening as you lie awake in bed the echoes of the amplifiers ringing in your head. You smoke the days last cigarette remembering what she said. What she said." <-------THAT WHOLE VERSE, FOLLOWED BY THE GUITAR PARTS KILLS ME! Just typing it out made me cry.

I love how recently when James sings One he shouts "STICKS IN ME!!"... What is there to say about One that hasn't already been said? Seriously. First time I heard James shout that line, I almost fell off my chair. My jaw dropped, and I shouted a massive "Hetfield Yeaaaahhhhhhhhhh", It was so riveting. It made me feel indestructable.

I love every single inch of Day...
Day... *sigh* I saw the premiere of the Day video on Australian TV when it was released back in '08 on VH1. Little did I know that I was in for the shock of my life. I CRIED MY EYES OUT. I hadnt heard my boys for a long time, and I was so so so happy to hear something from them again. I fell on the floor with tears streaming down my cheeks, I couldn't stop smiling! It was the most beautiful thing I had heard for a long time. I know somewhere within myself what James is singing about. I feel it there. It's hard to explain. And my heart goes out to him. Also I have my personal meaning to it. It's a song of hope. "I'll end this day, I'll splatter colour on this grey." which is one of my favourite lyrics ever. And "The sun will shine! THIS I SWEAR! THIS I SWEAR! THIS I SWEAR!!!" I missed tickets back in 2004 for Met in Sydney, and there was something else too which some of you know about. I refuse to get into it. But finally seeing them for the first time to me is like "The Day That Never Comes". But later on this year "THE SUN WILL SHINE!" It's gonna be absolutely amazing.

I love every single inch of Fade... Not only does Fade To Black have my favourite guitar solo of ALL TIME, it is an emotional, beautiful song that I believe saved my life. Some of you know about this already, my brother died in 2003, and my dad died in 2004. Being in my mid teens, it sent me on a the most emotional, painful rollercoaster of my life. I went into deep depression, was drugged up to the eyeballs on various legal and illegal drugs... I felt alone. Like I was the worst person in the world. A piece of shit that deserved to die. I felt like this because the two men whom I loved more than anyone in my life were taken away from me. Things got ugly, I got beaten up at school everyday because I was a wreck, and was treating everyone I came into contact with like shit. I left school which was the last straw because music, drama and photography were what kept me sane. I attempted to end my life; I felt that no one cared or gave a shit about me or what I was going through. I heard Fade for the first time in over a year one day. Hearing those words: "I have lost the will to live. Simply nothing more to give. There is nothing more for me. I need the end to set me free." It was comfort and warmth. I felt like James understood me. Like ONE PERSON on this planet cared, and understood what I was feeling. It was simply my will to carry on. Musically speaking, Fade is perfection. You all know that I am BIG on guitar solos, and MASSIVE on Kirk. HE ABSOLUTELY SOARS AMONGST THE STARS in Fade. Takes me with him a millionfold. And I bow down to him

I love every single inch of Orion...

I love every single inch of Sanitarium...

I love Lars' drum fills in Sad...

I love Lars' drum technique and think that he is the greatest fucking drummer in the history of mankind despite the fact that people think he lacks ability in comparison to other drummers...

I love it when Rob screws up his lips, gets the fuck down, and crab walks...

I love Rob's bassline in Cyanide...

I love it when Rob has his hair all wet from sweat, and goes into a frenzy. It flies everywhere...

I love the Puppets solo between Kirk and James.. and I love singing along with it.. "WOAHHH WOAH OHHH OHHHHHHHHH!!!"

I LOVE IT WHEN CLIFF USED TO STICK THAT MASSIVE FOOT OF HIS UP ON THE FOLDBACK, FLIP HIS HAIR UPSIDEDOWN AND JUST LET LOOSE LIKE AN ANIMAL!!!!

I love it when I cry, and hold my horns up to the sky when something strikes a nerve...

I love it when I hear Bells start...

I THINK THAT ECSTACY OF GOLD IS THE MOST INCREDIBLE INTRO TO A METALLICA GIG!

I love Hit The Lights...

I LOVE IT WHEN KIRK NODS AND THROWS HIS ARMS UP IN THE AIR SMILING!

I LOVE IT WHEN JAMES SAYS "DO YOU WANT HEAVY? TALLICA GIVES YOU HEAVY BABY!!!!" at the start of Sad...

I LOVE THE EMOTION THAT NOTHING ELSE MATTERS CARRIES WHEN THE CROWD SINGS ALONG!!!

I love the sense of family and togetherness that we are apart of...

______

Imma stop right there.. I'll add more over time...XD

Poor Twisted Me
 *  *  *  *  *
When I listen to the S and M version of Hero of the Day, the violins make me cry, it's so beautiful. I used to play violin, and the string arrangements are so pretty, like the symphonies my folks used to play with I was a kid . Thank you Michael Kamen, RIP.

When I have a bad day and feel really sad, I like to watch my video of Woodstock '99 version of Bleeding Me...Kirk's solos...it's like his guitar is crying FOR me...and I think, "The only way he can know to play this, is that Kirk has felt this way himself, before..."

Same with the solo from Outlaw Torn...his guitar just cries and cries in anguish.
This is why Metallica's music touches millions of people.

I love Poor Twisted Me so much, lots of times I hit "repeat" to hear it again 2-3 more times.

I like to actually dance to Cyanide, and also The More I See, from Garage, Inc. Go ahead. Laugh. it's OK.

The Day That Never Comes is very personal for me. Metallica wrote it, just for me. It's about my 16 Meet and Greet losses over the last 9 years.
The Day That Never Comes.

When I see Metallica live , and they play Master of Puppets, when they get to the heavy, slow crunchy part " Master, Master...Where's the dreams that I've been after?", I always stand still , and I tremble all over and my eyes water...I can't believe the power that seems to rumble and come right off the stage, like a big mastadon is stomping across the stage...it happens to me every time...I stand there, awe-struck. It's SO heavy!!

Right now one of my fave Metallica songs is All Nightmare Long. It's a rollercoaster ride. They are hunting me down, without mercy. I'm running, but they catch me...it's like being thrown over the hood of car and having rough sex, but it feels good. Then when I think it's over , they grab me by the hair and bash my head into the wall over and over, during that end part, then they pick me up high in the air , dangle me, then let me drop....but I like it....I don't mind if they rough me up a little, musically. I like it. A lot.

Fuel makes my heart race really fast, like I'm running hard. I'm always breathless when the song ends . I love Fuel.

So does The Four Horsemen. it literally takes my breath away. I love the way the guitars "gallup", like horses.

I love Mama Said . It's the most personal song James has ever written. James is not afraid to show his soft, vulnerable side. I love James for that.

I love No Leaf Clover...Kirk's solo in it is so simple, yet so potent and so pretty. Kirk said he came up with it spontaneously. Sometimes the best things do. I learned to play it well on guitar. When you play what your hero plays, it's like getting into his soul. Kirk said he did that a lot, learning everything Jimi Hendrix played..."When I do that, I can get into Jimi's head...."

Holier Than Thou is a song that best represents everything I love about Metallica...it's full of energy, the riff is low and deep and just rips your face off, and it's one of Metallica's most exciting live songs, the way they all line up in an identical stance onstage, as each man comes into his part... it's magical !

Suicide and Redemption is a masterpiece. I watch the video A LOT of them playing it live , for the first time, last July in Copenhagen.
James' face when he plays the slow melodic part...he is so lost in the music, feeling it , he seems completely unaware of the audience, it's a beautiful thing. it brings tears to my eyes to see James like that. The fans sing along with Kirk's first solo, Kirk nods in acknowledgement as he plays. Such beauty. Kirk said this song is like 2 big planets talking to each other. It is. It's amazing. Both Kirk and James really "sing" in this song. In Joe Berlinger's book about SKOM, Kirk said of their next recording project " This time , we're all gonna 'sing' on this record...it's gonna be one big, fucking choir, man...." He was right!! Suicide and Redemption.

(Welcome Home) Sanitarium is another song that makes me cry, when they get to the part: "Sanitarium, yeah.....LEAVE ME THE FUCK ALONE!!!" Who hasn't felt that? It's so powerful.

I'll stop here, for now....I could write all day.......... :rockdevil:

In Master of Puppets, just as the interlude ends and the riff returns, changing the song from it's melodic side to a 'demonic' side-- I still flip out and get chills. I call it "The Switch" and it's the reason why I became a Metallica fan.

The song Damage Inc. puts me to sleep  (I'm not joking)

Bleeding Me is so emotional, so amazing, you can really feel the emotion in it. The part near the end where James goes "I can't take it!" I wanted to scream too. And the beginning paints an amazing picture in my mind - a world of stillness, in sepia tone, an old deserted town.

When I was eight or nine, for the first time I saw the "Until It Sleeps" video and was a little freaked out by Metallica. But now that I'm older I understand it more. It is emotional as all hell (I think most of the Load album is) and the solo was really painful. Sometimes I like that song, sometimes I don't, either way IT KICKS ASS!

I also agree w/ metlmayden (sorry I don't know your name  ) Mama Said is definitely James' most emotional, hands down. I remember when we found out my mom had a tumor, I felt like that was my song only. No my mom didn't die, but that's how I felt. Like she said "it was written just for me"

Tuesday's Gone plucks a string for me. I kept listening to that song before I moved from Pennsylvania back to California. Yeah, it's not 'Tallica's song, but it still hit me. James put his thing on it and I really like his thing. (that could be wrong on so many levels  )

Ride The Lightning makes me go "AHHHHH!!!" in my mind. It's just so fitting for the topic, I don't know. It really gets me everytime. So does Sanitarium, Orion, Phantom Lord and For Whom The Bells Toll

Nothing Else Matters.... Do I need to explain? I'm going to dance to that song on my wedding. I don't care who I'm marrying, I'm gonna dance to that song.

Whiskey In The Jar, my first Met song, I don't need to explain.

The entire Kill 'Em All album, I look for adrenaline in songs, and that's the place for me to go. I LOVE every song on Kill 'Em All.

And so many other songs, just take me. I swim in those songs. I love them. All of them are beautiful in their own ways.

And finally, my ALL TIME favorite ones (I don't care if one's a cover)... "It's Electric" and "Escape" are my good luck charms. Those songs get me through the day. Diamond Head's version of "It's Electric" is OK, but Metallica really swept me off my feet. I LOVE that song. both of them. All my good days have started off with those songs. I could listen to them over and over and never get tired of them. I mean I truly LOVE those songs. I don't care if Metallica doesn't like "Escape" but it's definitely their best in my opinion. It truly changed me the most. I used to actually care about what other people thought about me! And I look back at that now and think "what a joke...! Good thing I found Metallica". I mean they really changed the way I think about things. It is amazing. Those songs make me THANKFUL for a band. Those are the only two songs that ever have. I couldn't give a rat's ass if they were popular Met songs are not, I would love them either way. They are the most legit songs, ever in my opinion (they even outdo some Hendrix songs, that's huge for me)

I'm not gonna lie, though, I am more into their old days. BUT, now and the Load/ReLoad era kicked maximum ASS i kid you not. Metallica opened doors for musically and they also opened my mind. Up until I was eleven I thought music can only be good if it was fast, in your face, and insane, then I listened to "Load" (I believe my first song from that album was "Hero Of The Day") and dude.... I changed so much that day (August 7th, 2003) I will never forget the day I heard that song. Metallica left a mark on me, I mean a real mark. Most bands do not.

No one probably read that much but I don't care. I got a chance to scream it to all of you people: "I LOVE METALLICA" :biggrin

"Nothing Else Matters" came on in a club I was in last night and I was drunk... I'm a total crier when I'm drunk. So, basically, I was really happy and had loooads of fun and I was with my best friend... and I cried. I didn't even wanna cry fuck it! Anywho, loved it. Still gives me chills.

Metallica gives me the special feeling that NOTHING else does.

Im not afraid to admit i bawled my eyes out when i saw Metallica for the first time when they played Nothing Else Matters.
People were giving me funny looks but i didn't give a fuck. I cried into Krissie's shoulder (we met up there) for a good part of it then i let go and sang my fucking heart out, tears still streaming down my face.
That song is just so fucking amazing and emotional. Plus with the energy they're giving off onstage... God it's undescribable. It was one of the most fantastic thing's i've ever experienced.

Just thinking about it brings tears to my eyes.
