OMG :(

Apart from the cost, you've just scrubbed them in, now you've got to do it again :Rave

Not if it's repaired.

I must have done thousands of miles on repaired tyres. Never had a problem.

It does, however depend on the site and size of the puncture as to whether it can be repaired.

I was thinking I've got it nicely scrubbed in especially after the rideout the previous weekend :(

It was a bit late to get it sorted for this weekend so just thought let Pidcocks get it ready for next weekend. A new tyre would have been cheaper from elsewhare but at least I can just pick it up next saturday ready for a bike shop tour for a new helmet :P

Not sure where I would have got it repaired. It's not recommended by the tyre companies so many places don't do it. I've never had a problem with a plugged tyre in the past though.

The guy down Chandos Pole street in Derby definately does tyre repairs. I remember him saying on a previous visit. If it was me BikerBore I would be tempted to see about having it repaired before you splash out on a new tyre. Places like Pidcocks would much rather sell you a new one than suggest that it was perfectly possible to have it plugged.

£25 for a repair, ride in/out vs. £100+ for a new tyre?

No-brainer as far as I'm concerned.

Wheel House Tyres Coleshill do repairs. :Up

I feel your pain mate, i had a nail in my Fireblade back tyre after just over 400 miles.
The tyre place wouldnt plug it as although the nail was pretty central, there were a few tears in the rubber where it seems to have 'ran over' another nail but not actualy punctured. Apparently there is a risk that these tears can fill with water and expand?!
Was devastated at the time. Having just bought the bike, finances were increadably tight and the last thing i needed was to fork out another 135 quid.

Had another slapped on and slagged the arse off it as payback ever since!! :2_lol :cheers

Cheers

In that case why not get Pidcocks to save the 'old' tyre for you so that you can see about getting it repaired at a later date and maybe use it in the future when your have worn your 'new' one out. If you leave it for Pidcocks to dispose of then it wouldn't surprise me if someone else collars it, gets it repaired and then sells it on as a repaired part worn.

Going back a few years I had a puncture in the almost brand new rear tyre of my new Aprilia at the start of a bank holiday weekend and after making a few enquiries with my associates I ended up letting a mate of a mate repair it who was a car rather than a bike tyre fitter. Needless to say the repair wasn't a sucess and when I eventually caught up with the tyre man he told me that because the nail had gone through at an angle it was never likely to be sucessful.

So off I went during the next week to the specialist bike tyre guy in Derby to have a new tyre fitted. Upon seeing the puncture and realising that was why I was buying a new tyre he declared that he could easily fix it and was fairly certain it would be a 100% sucess. By that time I had already given up with having it repaired and told him to bang a new tyre on regardless.

But the moral of the story is don't always listen to the views of those who aren't actually the specialists. Satisfy yourself that you have been given the best advice and make sure that someone isn't trying to make a fast buck out of you at your own expense.

Oh and I'm not trying to cast aspersions but I do hope that when you tell Pidcocks you want the old tyre back that they don't have to suddenly send the aprentice to insert a nail through the carcass, if you understand what I mean.

I con't think Pidcocks are trying to rip me off. I remember coming out of the Close thinking handling feels a bit odd but put it down to just getting off the GSX600. But I do think tyre is repairable, it's the tyre companies saying they are not depending on the rating and I expect the GSX1400 has Z rating that they say are not repairable

I don't think Pidcocks are trying to rip you off either, I was just highlighting some of the tricks that do go on.

As for repairing a Z rated tyre, it is perfectly possible and legal to do so. What you tend to find is that the manufacturers don't recommend it and I would guess one of the principle reasons is that its not in their best economic interests.

There is a guide to follow for people who repair such tyres and I think it a British Standard kinda guide. Basically as long as the puncture is fairly central and not near the sidewall, and that their is only one repair made to the tyre is question, then it is perfectly okay. :D
