All Round Top Bloke!

These have been on the market for a year or so, and got great reviews, so i decided to get myself one:

Eee PC 900

you can see how diminutive it is next to my phone and 19" monitors. It runs an intel 900mhz processor, which is slow compared to a normal sized machine, but these are fantastic for travelling with - the main reason i went for it.

here's a closer look

They come with either windows xp, or a bespoke linux operating system similar to a pda. They have solid state hard drives, in my case 20GB split between 4gb and 16gb drives. I took the native operating system off and loaded Ubuntu, since its lightweight compared to xp, never crashes, and is completely free being open source. It does everything i need it to do, and there is almost always an open source alternative to most windows based programs. So we have openoffice instead of microsoft office, firefox instead of IE7, emesene instead of windows live messenger, etc.

The photos were downloaded from my camera on it, converted and uploaded to flickr, and this post was written on it. and you could buy 4 or 5 of these devices for the cost of an ultra portable from the likes of sony.

Thats similar. Its a little larger in size and has a conventional hard drive as opposed to solid state, but looks a good machine for the money. Those Medion computers always get good reviews.
