Star raced into camp. Excitement always followed a den move and he was at the head of the group. All of his senses were alert as it wouldn't be the first time other animals moved into the den while the pack was elsewhere. All was silent though, the den was empty. Rain caught up to her mate and sniffed around the den. She sat down in front of the opening and waited for the other wolves to gather. River was not far behind his leader and the brown wolf skidded to a stop next to Star. He also sat down, panting. Star had driven the pack hard today as to ensure that they arrived at the den before sundown. River twitched his tail and glanced at Rain who was now starting to clear out the entrence of the den. It was strange to River that she was working so hard on it. Normally the pack would only use the den if a really bad storm blew through which was rare as they were well protected in the mountain's shadow. Unless... It had grown obvious to the other packs that the Mountain Pack had not grown in numbers for a year or so. If Rain and Star had finally decided to have pups than Rain was practicing here on the winter den what she would need to do to the Spring Den before pups arrived. River's tail wagged at the thought of pups. Pups were always exciting and meant good times ahead. Star would never allow pups if he thought that the year would turn out bad. But River's thoughts turned ugly as his gaze fell upon Star. Rain should have been his mate. But it would've never been allowed. Only the alpha could mate. If only he was stronger, if only he could defeat Star... River shook his head and turned to watch the other wolves arrive.

Thorn gathered with the other wolves boredly. He was unexcited, unlike most of the wolves.
