I'll give it a go. I'm in a constant state of being disgusted with myself and my expanding middle-region. I assume we need to establish some baseline numbers for everyone, set a start and end date (possibly the season opener), etc. As a public service, we could also describe our given "diet" technique, whether its strictly dietary, an increase in exercise, a liquid diet , or a combination of them.

When I was contracting as an installer (flooring), I could eat and drink as much as I could fit in to the bod without it spilling back out. Infact I was constantly being told by family and friends that I looked ill all the time. Yet as soon as I bought the shop and stopped the physical side of the biz I blew up....... oh and I gave up smoking around the same time too though. XL for me now and about 102 kilos as opposed to the 85 odd I was used to. I need to do something and soon. |

Sorry all, I started this thread yesterday and got into work this morning to find those I.T. nazi's have ban all forums Anyways, I'm glad this has hit a chord with some of you cos - let's face it - it's quite serious; you don't see many overweight old people, do you? Why not? Cos they're long gone that's why... So here's the thing: I don't want this to be a zealot thread. Those that want to can post food intake or progress made if they wish or it could be used to post useful information or recipes that offer an alternative to gut-busting burgers, pizza's & kebabs. Let's just see how it develops - no rule's other than this...no-one should go on one of those ridiculous faddy diets. Okay, I'll show my hand: I'm roughly a stone overweight. I put it on - in common with the mentalist - when I gave up smoking. I intend to lose it with excercise/by eating good wholesome food/by grilling not frying/laying off the beer during the week. Today: Brekkie: Marmite on toast x 2, Lunch: soup with an wholemeal roll, Din-din's: Salmon stir fry. Exercise: running machine...45 mins Actual weight: 13st 8lbs - 83.5 kilos (Week one) Target weight: 12 st - 77 kilo's

Ahh, i'm already 2 weeks into my diet/exercise and i've lost all of 4lbs Today: Skipped Brekkie, Wholemeal bread chicken sandwiches an apple and a tangerine for lunch and Tuna Pasta for dinner. Exercise: I've been to the gym every day for the past two weeks my routine is as follows (cycle 7-8 miles 15mins, walk 2 miles 20mins and 2 reps on the upper body weights). Oh, as well as walking the 3 miles home on the evenings when it's sunny. WHEN its sunny.................. Actual weight: 15st 2lbs - 96.5 kilos Target weight: 12.10st - 76 kilo's I've also totally cut out the booze and intend to keep it up for at least 6-8 weeks. But needs must.................its bloody hot work carrying 2st of flab

Alright, here's the tale of the tape for me. (I'll try to do the conversions, but I might mess it up a bit.) 14st 9lbs - 205lbs - 93.2kg Seeing my little girls walk down the aisle and feeling my pants fitting just a bit too snuggly, I've decided to really put in the effort on getting down to a more comfortable weight. So, tonight, after work, I get on the elliptical for an hour. I'm gonna cut out more of the snack items and sugary beverages and refrain from eating anything after dinner. Exercise will increase between exercising at home and playing football when my league starts up again. More fresh fruit and veggies, now that summer has rolled around, should help improve dinner fare. Thanks for the kick in the short EZ! Its always better to do these things with someone than alone. |

Regular exercise is the key, just like a half hour walk at lunchtime will do the trick. Along with healthy eating, more fruit and veg! No fried stuff... My typical daily diet would be something like as follows: Breakfast: 2 poached eggs on one slice on wholemeal toast... no butter! Nothing more until Lunch: A piece of fruit, a low fat Yoghurt, a bag of crisps and a can of Tesco's healthy eating soup.... 30p a can and it's f'in de-lic! Dinner: Grilled chicken breast with loadsa veg and a low fat sauce... Oh, I was 13st 6lb's, now 11st!! woop woop Lock up your daughters!!! |

Mich: I always thought the sucess of Group Therapy is more down to its inherent potential for humilation (should you be seen to fail) rather than any support a crowd with a common cause brings . But, whatever, motivation is motivation is motivation
Whami: Congrats, mate Ollenp: Keep it up A geezer I know stopped drinking for a month and lost a stone. No gym, no rabbit food; just no beer! if you're still off it for as long as you say, you'll have no problem at all Chelspur: Don't mope, mobilise! C'mon join us - you know you wanna

Weight conversion tool here: http://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/body_...t_converter.htm Plus lots of helpful info too http://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/lostart.htm Atty: If you're seriously up for it, you best post your starting and target weight. Suggest we all do a weigh-in on Mondays and post daily (and honest!) what-I-have-eaten-today notes. Keep on keepin' on, one and all. We have nothing to lose except excess baggage!

That's pretty ambitious Deeks, at least from my standpoint! Good luck. I forgot to add my target: I'm hoping to get down to a maximum of 13st 3lbs, but its been difficult in the past to get down lower than 13st 10lbs for me. At 5' 8", I'm fairly stocky, but I hate to shoot for unrealistic goals and come up short. I'm pretty comfortable and feel well at 13st 3lbs. I worked out on the elliptical for an hour last night and felt pretty good doing it. Parking it in front of the TV helps to keep my mind off of what I'm actually doing (I watched "A History of Violence"). I hope to keep that up on a more frequent basis. Also, I got a call that my football league is starting on Wednesday. I'm much better at getting fit while playing a sport than just merely running or lifting weights. |

Current weight = 17st 10 lbs = 248 lbs = 113kg. Target weight = 15st 7lbs = 218lbs = 98kg (I'd like to lose less, but as the target is mid august, I don't wanna be overambitious. I'm reasonably tall at just under 6ft-ish. Used to do a lot of weights in my early 20's, until I picked up a back injury a few years ago which needed operating on. Since then, I've kinda shyed away from the gym to a degree. That and my bad eating habits in recent years have meant that all the muscle has been covered in flubber. In the last week or so, i've done well to eat less and eat healthier, and I've already noticed I don't feel so bloated, etc. The one thing I need to start doing is exercise, because I have become so farkin' lazy these days. COYS!!! |

DK: In you get! Atty: Top man, mate I think what's important here is we're honest with ourselves. As Mich points out the potential of humilation might be an incentive but it's bloody easy to tell half truths on a forum too. The absolute honesty of what we all post on here in the coming weeks is between us and our conscience's individually. Certainly it occurs to me that reading through what's been said it seems quite a few of us genuinely want to see less of ourselves - so to speak. So let's do it! Oh, and let no-one underestimate the power of the food diary too. Posting our daily food intake (including any excessive lager sess's) will help us all understand how we got to be...er, so rotund in the first place Today's EZ1 nosh-up broke down thus: Brekkie: A sliced banana with a small pot of natural yoghurt, a tablespoon of muesli and a squirt of honey poured over it. It was choice Lunch: A ham salad sarnie, packet of bacon rashers crisps from Boots' Shapers range (For those of you outside the UK, "Shapers" is a low-calorie range of lunchtime food aimed at the diet conscious…), can of Pepsi Max. An opinion: That Shapers stuff is truly farking revolting. All I could taste was chemical's. Nasty. Memo to Self: Do. Not. Eat. It. Again. Ever. Dinner: Two pitta breads stuffed with a mixture consisting of tuna, tomatoes, cucumber, spring onions, salad leaves, black olives & a tablespoon of low cal mayonnaise/yoghurt mix and a squeeze of lemon juice. Oh, and a low fat strawberry yoghurt for dessert. 'Twas handsome. Snacks: None (Honest, guv...) Exercise: 30 min walk at lunchtime (taking Whami's advice) and 30 mins on the running machine after work |

Din din: 2 seasoned grilled chicken breasts and a salad grown from my backyard. Snacks: none Exercise: 1 hour on elliptical machine (731 calories burned according to the machine) |

You farking bar stewards!!!!!!! Was about to grab myself a couple strips of dairy milk that i just bought. Im in Here's my story: ![]() Always been big for my age, not fat just stocky and actually managed to get myself into shape with football during the teens (Played for Essex under 18's when i was 16) but broke my ankle and never really managed to recover from it. Played on for a couple more years until i started to enjoy myself too much at weekends and not able to get myself up in the mornings. It was shamefully down hill from there. Current Weight: 17st 5lbs - 245lbs - 111.1 kilo Target Weight: 15st 10lbs - 210lbs - 95.3 kilo Gonna try and stop eating snacks and get more exercise in. I have started playing 5 a side footy one night during the week so that should help. Maybe a walk at lunchtimes. Good luck everyone, although don't take it too seriously either thats when the fun dissipates (spelling?) |

Welcome, OB1! People, it appears we've got ourselves a convoy... Couple of things: Firstly, I echo OB1 sentiments, let's not take this too seriously. We need to keep this dieting thread lightly ; if you'll pardon the (feebly weak) pun. Secondly, had a word with the gf today and told her about this thread and she was like: Oh, you need to buy some new scales cos yours are wildly inaccurate. So, I bought some tonight and it appears that - much to my horror - I'm half a stone heavier that I thought I was
I have changed my start weight above accordingly.I now have a stone and half to lose by the time Tottenham kick the new season off but like many of you, I'll be happy if I get rid of the majority of it if all proves too much

That's what the little display thingy told me. I had to put in my weight, time, etc and it keeps a running total. It said that I covered 4.11 miles. I was sweating my bal.............., well, lets just say I was sweating profusely during the whole thing. I like it because there is very little impact on your joints and you're still putting in the effort. Its a cross between running on a treadmill, cross-country sking and a stairmaster. Plus its very, very quiet, so I can watch a show or two while burning up the calories. Oh, and mine has those metal handle things that will tell you your heart rate, so you can keep in the proper zone. Anyway, just my opinion, but I like it. It ran me about $400 at a sporting goods place (roughly 200 quid). |

I was thinking exactly the same thing. Maybe I need to get off the treadmill and bike and onto one of those thingies. Although I feel like theres no stopping once you get a good speed up on them ![]() Saying that though 35 minutes on the bike and treadmill equates to something like 340cals so if I crank it up a little more and spend another 30 mins on them i'll be up with ya Mich |

A friend of mine lost a lot of weight using one of those Lateral Thigh Trainer things, which are kinda like astep machine, but they swing horizontally as well. Think I might pick me up one of them and they only cost about 40 quid. Anyway, today was a pretty good day. Woke up late, and had a banana and some yoghurt for breakfast/lunch. In the evening had a chicken and rice dish with loads of salad. Throughout the day, I drank a few cups of tea and loads of water. In terms of exercise, went for a brisk walk from Shepherds Bush to Notting Hill and back (at leats a couple of hours walk). It helps cos there are loads of shops and stuff on the way to pass the time. So yeah...a good day!
