I have it live (so there should be a few live streams....ask Justin)

What an awful, awful 1st half performance. No width on either wing, Sunderland are pressing us out of possession very well and holding the ball nicely, playing some very good football.

Keanes goal came from him being in a traditional strikers position, getting on the end of a crouch header across goal. The keeper got something on Robbies initial shot but as the whole thing happened at such close range the ball pretty much rebounded off of Gorden straight back into Keane and into the net. Completely against the run of play imo.

On balance we should be 0-2 or 1-2 down really.

Gomes concedes a penalty, apparently Bent dived like a dying swan. Great.

Brilliant save from the pen and it was definately a penalty!

I wonder if Steve Bruce will complain that his missus could have scored that ?

Charlie as not been as good this season. Time for Hutton to have a run and provide some width.

Including a penalty save too.

Jenas could quite easily put Defoe through there on 85 minutes but decided to f**k around on the edge of the box and lose the ball instead. :(

Well, how the bleep bleep did we win that? The first half was one of the worst, if not THE worst, that I have ever sat through. All the movement came from Sunderland, we had no cohesion anywhere on the park, midfield was jam packed and we couldn't string two passes together. Gomez was our man of the match, which about sums it up really. Even Wilson was off his game in the first half. Sorry but Peter Crouch does not make the cut as a footballer - for someone who is so tall, can't head the ball for toffees. And I thought it was a penalty (it was right in front of us and I haven't had the benefit of seeing it from every angle on TV). Suppose it makes up for the Stoke game. Best chant of the day - to Bent - 'Are you Sandra in disguise?' Whammi, I was about 4 rows behind you !!!

As far as Bent's concerned, I think if he's thwarted a few times or has a couple of shots go miles off target then his head will go down and he'll go missing.
With us he never seemed to have that determination to see a game right through unless he was on song and banging them in from the get-go so keeping him out early is going to be key.

Eh? Eh? Eh?

Lucky to win that one imo, Sunderland passed the ball around brilliantly and created chance after chance. We were sloppy, unimaginative and conceited.

Andy Reid really came back to haunt us, he's been in amazing this season, a real transformation. Darren Bent played relatively well, he actually won a few headers and held up the ball well, but totally bottled it for the penalty.

Robbie Keane should not start for Spurs, FACT. Ok he scored a goal, but other than scrambling the ball into the goal, he contributed nothing to the team, very disappointed in him since he came back from the Hub-cap thieves. Kranjcar came on and instantly gave us more pace, attacking emphasis and imagination, i'll be rooting for him to start against Wigan in a couple of weeks.

Gomes, What a superb performance, Man of the Match for me!!

All in all, i was shocked we won that game, but its the 3 points that matter i guess. Yids!!

I loved the way the crowd chanted at Bent 'That's why we sold you' and 'Darren, What's the score? Darren, Darren what's the score?'.

Also loved how Gomes celebrated after saving that penalty, then when Hudds scored, Gomes turned around and celebrated like a fan - what a legend.

We're probably beginning to see why the PSV fans idolised him so much. There was a real connection between him and the crowd there apparently.

I think most of the comments are right....we were played off the pitch in the first half. No width, little to no pace, no imagination, not a lot of anything really.

Keane did bang in the goal, but I'm not sure he could get out of the way of the ball when he poked it in. Other than being a quality wall for the ricochet, he provided nothing.

The second half was much better from Spurs. Specifically, when Kranjcar came on, he INSTANTLY provided creativity, enthusiasm, pace and energy. Keane should feel ashamed for sulking as he came off the pitch for Niko. Night and day, IMO.

Gomes was epic! Bent didn't hit the best penalty shot (as he hit it mid-way between the right post and the center of the net. Gomes had many other good saves and seemed to get much more confidence late in the match when he held onto EVERYTHING, not letting the ball squirt away from him. He controlled everything that came in high as well. MOTM.

Corluka was shocking. Mis-hits, bad back-passes, no pace. I'd be surprised if he's not harboring some unknown injury. He is not the same as he was last season and seems to run with a limp.

King was fine. I didn't really see why he came off, but once we had the goal lead, I guess it was fine to take him out...although he would have plenty of time to rest with the international break coming up.

Woody was ever solid. I don't remember any real threats that he botched and seemed to cover the back well.

Dawson was fine as well. He certainly gives it all he has, so no complaints.

BAE was the left side of the field before Niko came on. He played well. Didn't seem as sketchy while defending and pushed forward as always. He put the cross over to Crouch who then headed it down to Keane for the first goal.

The midfield was a complete cluster-f**k! No natural right-sided player, no natural left-sided player. Jenas, Huddz, Palacios & Keane? Really????? Was Bentley too busy putting in more hair-gel? Why not Kranjcar to start with? Who does Keane have pictures of 'Arry fondling that he keeps getting put in the starting 11?

Jenas messed up more attacks than I can remember. At least twice he broke through with pace on a "surging run", as the commentators noted, and then decided that there was no other Spurs anywhere near him so he had to flub it up alone. Which he managed with acute accuracy!! Drop him please!!!

Huddz played better. Obviously pounding in the goal helps, but he didn't seem too shaky defensively and sprayed the ball around fairly well.

Palacios played well. Not his best game, but being the only player that was tackling and getting stuck in makes him run around a lot more than he needs to and overall not as effective. I give him good marks for this match though.

Keane? He needs to get his head straight. Flapping of the arms nearly every time anyone comes near him. Sulking while coming off the field after an overall ineffective performance. No real creativity, no link-up play. I will give him credit because he was essentially playing as a left-sided midfielder, when he normally doesn't. But he has played there before, so its not a complete pass on this. Drop him, at least for a few games. Captain or not, he needs to sit/rest/think.

Defoe was brilliant at times and good the rest of the time. His lay off to Huddz was wonderful. He had to hold the ball up, in the penalty box for a few seconds against three defenders and keep his head up and wait for Huddz to lumber down to an open position. He looked like he had some fire in him....although I could do without the large number of offsides calls. It seems like its just laziness to not get back even and just sit in an offsides position and try to get back before the ball is played. It would seem that its a much better position to take to be onsides to start and get your spring going toward the goal instead of away from the goal and then have to change direction. Use your pace properly. But kudos on the match....I'm glad he's back.

Crouch was a bit pedestrian for much of the game. He put the ball down to Keane well for the first goal. I guess he will look much more passive in a game when we're not lumping the ball up from the back in route 1 football. I'd rather have Crouch and Defoe in the game because of the different dimension that Crouch can offer as compared to Defoe.

Alright, I'm getting a hand-cramp from typing now. Gotta go.

Great post Mich, I think that is pretty much everything that can be said, especially concerning our midfield - Bale, Bentley or Kranjcar could have easily slotted in nicely!

I didn't actually see the game as I've had some things to deal with, that have proven a distraction.

Enjoyed reading through this thread though. It really made me feel I was there. Thanks, guys.

And just for the record I vote for a Spurs win. :)
