Aamu watched the water run along her hand, down her fingers until it finally dripped gracefully, in a full-figured wholeness, down to the floor below. Even with the battering of the savage wind, Aamu could pick out the very second each drop hit the floor with perfect clarity. Her world had come into itself, encapsulating nothing but her isolation within the Great Hall. Dinner had ended hours ago, sending most back to their studies or their procrastinating idleness. Not unlike most, Aamu had drifted out of the Great Hall towards other, often more interesting parts of the castle and its grounds. She had walked along the edge of the woods, shuffling along in perfect seclusion, not even attempting, which was so unlike her, to enter the Forbidden Forest. Her actions had been those more suited to more contemplative fellows, who found walking around, kicking at a stray rock, the most satisfying way to spend a perfectly good afternoon. Luckily for her, the weather had shadowed his sour mood but being overcast, in the most oppressive shades of gray, with a slight drizzle. The weather was a pure pleasure to Aamu as she simply pulled up her dark-blue hoody over his head, shoved her hands into her jean pockets, and let her battered vans, in a checkered black and white, get dirtier by sinking farther into moistened ground. After several hours of her silent reverie, Aamu finally was pushed back into the castle by streaks of lightening and threatening thunder. Unable to face the curious faces of her friends, who no doubt would be wondering at her silence and standoffishness, Aamu had retreated back into the spacious abandoned great hall. In the past hour, as Aamu sat letting ripping up the letter into smaller and smaller pieces, the only living creature to be found around had been a little house-elf who had come to ask if she needed anything from the kitchen. “Water would be fine.” had been her only small reply. Less than a minute later, the water which now ran down her hand, had popped up in a supers-sized goblet barely an inch from where her elbow rested. She took a few sips, letting the cool liquid slip down her throat, easing the tension that had settled deep inside. After these relieving sips, Aamu had gently tipped cup over and let the water run across her arms, and hands. Her head bowed in great concentration as the water continued to run. Overhead, lightning streaked across the sky as rain magically poured to just above her head. Edited by Aamu Koivu, Nov 17 2008, 09:50 AM.

Donnan was embarrassed by his starvation-induced bread and water diet, and had taken to eating much later than the other students, when the Great Hall was abandoned and nobody was there to sneer derisively in his direction, as he imagined they did when he ate with them. A week of eating in the kitchens had done wonders for his complexion, but it had also shot the house-elves' nerves all to hell. After all, they were taken to constantly waiting on him when he was a guest in their kitchens, and when he was there night after night they fell behind on their other responsibilities. With the help of a few choice adults in his life, Donnan had been able to strike a deal with the house elves. He would go to the Great Hall at night, later than everyone else, and they would pop just enough food in to him. No more waiting on him, no more stressing over him, and Donnan could be hidden from the scorching eyes of his classmates. Except for today. Today, there was a girl in his area. He didn't know her, really, had only ever seen her around... He sighed. Cade would kill him if he skipped dinner- and the house elves, who had slaved over Donnan's nutrient-rich meal, would tell Cade in a heartbeat. He would have to suck it up, Donnan thought . At least today there was only one girl to stare at him, rather than an entire hall full. Trying to turn invisible- a distinct impossibility, when the hard clank of his cane on the stone floor gave him away- he slid to his designated table (unfortunately within a stone's throw of where she was) and, as soon as his soup popped into view, began to eat. Hey, he thought, a little bitterly... This one had meat. Pretty soon, he'd be on real-people food. He even had sweet, sugary juice today! Whoopie... |
