Brighton & Hove Albion Although planning permission has been given for a new 22,000 capacity stadium at Falmer on the outskirts of Brighton, the scheme is now subject to a public enquiry, the results of which will not be available until later on in 2004. However a report by a local planning inspector submitted to Brighton & Hove Council has indicated that the scheme should not go ahead. The Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott has the final decision on the new stadium plan and Brighton fans are now petitioning him to give the green light for the stadium. Crewe Alexandra At some point in the future, the club hopes to replace the Blue Bell BMW Stand (formerly known as the Popular Side) with a new two tiered stand, which will also contain executive boxes. Doncaster Rovers Doncaster Council have sanctioned a proposal to build a new 15,000 capacity stadium, at a cost of around £32m. The new stadium will be home to the Doncaster Rovers Football Club, Doncaster Dragons Rugby League Club and Doncaster Belles Ladies Football Club. The proposed site is adjacent to a lake, at the back of what has recently been re-named Lakeside Village (the old Yorkshire Outlet shopping centre), which is about a mile and half South from the present Belle Vue ground. Construction is due to start in December 2004 and it is hoped that it will be completed in March 2006. Gillingham Even though a lot of money has already been spent in transforming Priestfield, the ambitious Chairman still wants the Club to move a new larger purpose built stadium, which could be open for the 2008/09 season. On the face of it this would seem to be good news, but there is a catch; the new stadium is unlikely to be situated in the Medway Towns, but somewhere else within Kent. Obviously this prospect has upset some fans and it would seem that a lot of discussions need to take place before a final decision is made. Luton Town The Club are still considering moving to a new stadium near Junction 10 of the M1, with a capacity of 15,000. However, no formal time scales have been announced as to when this might take place. Nottingham Forest The Club have revealed plans to increase the capacity of the City Ground to 40,000. This would involve the re-development of the Main Stand. However, this is dependant on Forest gaining promotion to the Premier League and the Club being able to secure the freehold of the City Ground from Nottingham City Council. Oldham Athletic The Clubs new owners have announced that they have begun discussions with the local council about the possibility of building a new 20,000 capacity stadium, either at Boundary Park or at another site in the town. Port Vale Port Vale's new owners hope to eventually complete the currently half built Lorne Street Stand. This would vastly improve the overall look of the ground. Walsall United The Club have announced that they have been granted planning permission to re-develop the William Sharp end of the ground. The new stand would look similar to the Purple Stand and add 2,300 seats to the ground, raising the overall capacity to 13,500. It would also mean that up to 4,000 away supporters could be accommodated at that end. The back of the stand will also feature a giant advertising hoarding, clearly visible from the M6. Permission has been also granted to build a hotel behind the William Sharp End. |
