Boston United The Club under new owners have signalled their intention to leave York Street and move to a new ground. In a complex deal, Boston United have bought the Tattershall Road ground of Boston's other football club Boston Town. It is intended that both the York Street & Tattershall Road grounds be sold off for residential development and that two new grounds will be built in the Boardsides area, on the outskirts of Boston. The £8m pound scheme, will see Boston United move to a new 7,500 capacity stadium. If planning permission can be granted fairly quickly, then Boston could be kicking off the 2006/07 season in their new home. Cambridge United After completing the South Stand, the Club are now looking to move onto phase two of their project, which is to re-develop the North (Newmarket Road) Terrace. The new stand will be almost a mirror image of the new South Stand, it too, having 1,600 seats. Work on the Newmarket Road End is expected to start sometime during the 2004/05 season. Once this has completed the Club are then looking to extend the Main Stand towards the South Stand and install a number of executive boxes at the back of it. Whether the Club will then look at re-developing the Habbin Stand remains to be seen as the local council have specified that, due to road congestion issues outside the ground, the stadium will not be able to have a capacity greater than 10,000. Grimsby Town The Club's intention to move to a new purpose built stadium near Great Coates has hit a major snag, with the failure to purchase the necessary land to build it upon. It is therefore now unclear as to whether the £14m pound scheme will materialize. The Club may consider applying for planning permission on a different site. Lincoln City The club are looking into the possibility of extending the Lincolnshire Echo Stand, so that it widened along the side of the pitch. This is still in the feasibility stage. Macclesfield Town The Club have outlined proposals to redevelop the Silkman End. The existing terrace will remain much the same but behind it will be a tier of seating and behind this a new four storey building containing offices and a gym. There will also be a roof over both the new seats and the terrace. However, no firm time scales have been announced as to when this will take place. Mansfield Town There are plans to re-develop the small remaining Bishop Street Stand, but no formal time scales have been announced. Northampton Town Following the Club's successful bid to buy a 150 year lease on Sixfields Stadium, they have announced that the stadium is to be further developed so that the overall capacity will rise to 15,000. This will mean new North, East & South Stands as well as executive boxes being added to the West Stand. Part of the development will also the feature the building of a hotel behind the South Stand of the stadium. The home end at Northampton's old County Ground was called the Hotel End, so it is quite apt that the new stadium will also feature its own Hotel End. It is believed that it will take five years for the plans to be fulfilled. Oxford United Foundations have been put in place for the future construction of a fourth stand, at the West End of the stadium. However it is unlikely that this will be built for at least a couple of years. Shrewsbury Town Planning permission has been granted for the building of a new stadium. The New Meadow as it is to be known, at the Oteley Road site (on the outskirts of town, near Meole Brace by the A5) will be a 10,000 all seated state of the art stadium, which will cost £10m to build'. After a number of hurdles the scheme will now commence in January 2005, with the new ground scheduled to be open in October 2005. Gay Meadow will be re-developed for residential use. Southend United Although the Club have now secured the lease on Roots Hall until 2006, they still intend moving to a new 16,000 capacity stadium to be located at Fossetts Farm, just behind the club’s training ground in Eastern Avenue. The £12.5 million stadium would be all seated and comprise a two tier main stand with curved roof, plus three one tier sides, and be enclosed at the corners. The club are hoping to obtain planning permission for the scheme. Swansea City The Club intend to move to a new purpose built stadium on the present site of the existing Morfa Stadium. The former athletics stadium has now been demolished and work is well underway in constructing a new multi purpose 20,000 capacity all-seater stadium, plus a retail and leisure park. The stadium has mostly been funded by Swansea City Council and will cost in the region of £24m to build. The stadium will comprise four separate stands and will feature translucent roofing, to allow more light onto the pitch area. The stadium has been designed by TTH, the same company who designed Sunderland's Stadium Of Light. If things go to plan then both Swansea City Football Club and Swansea Rugby Club could be both kicking off in their new home in Autumn 2005' The stadium has been given the provisional name of the 'White Rock Stadium' but it is likely to attract the name of a corporate sponsor. |
