Oxford snatched defeat from the jaws of victory yet again. 1-0 up from the first leg away at Exeter and in front of a 10,700 crowd, OUFC proved just what a killer instinct they possessed last night. Despite Exeter pressure, United took a 1-0 lead on the night, 2-0 on aggregate. Manager Jim Smith, in his wisdom, decided to give Exeter the free run of midfield. Exeter duly had chance after chance before equalising then scoring a second to take the match into extra time. Oxford never like things to be too easy, so when Duffy was through on goal, one on one with the keeper, he obligingly took the more difficult option and hit the keeper's body, no doubt intending to give the fans the thrill of a penalty shootout. Our keeper Billy "I'm not coming for a cross if I can help it" Turley chose to take our fifth penalty. Clearly under the impression he was a talented outfield player rather than a very average Conference goalkeeper, he tried a delicate chip and hit the post. Cue sudden death and an Exeter win. Still, looking on the bright side we have some stunning new fixtures next season - > Droylsden > Histon > Braintree or Salisbury > Farsley Celtic or Hinckley The only way is up. |

Frigging hell Pete, what were you lot playing at last night mate?I was listening to 5Live and looking at the minute by minute telecaster on BBC.Frankly I couldnt believe the amount of possesion Exeter had during the game particularly in the second half. You must have been gutted especially after being 2-0 up.Its a cruel game. :( Theres nothing worse than losing in a penalty shoot out. Still at least youve seen a few new grounds this year and it must be nice turning up 'mob handed' to every away game.Showing the home side what its like to see a crowd. :) Whats Oxfords average home gate and away following been this year, probably excellent at a guess? |

Yeh, bad night but that's football. Already over it and looking forward to next season. Worst part is all the numpties from Swindon, Reading etc coming on our forum to take the piss! We averaged 6,300 at home and 820 Oxford fans away (not bad considering we had a few long trips midweek). The away trips have been the best thing about this season. :D Catch you later mate. |

Bad luck Pete! Don't you just love penalty shoot-outs? Don't forget you now have a nice weekend down at Torquay to look forward to. B) (unless it's in January of course!) |

Definitely pencilled in - not that I know the date yet. I believe Droylsden-by-the-Sea is also a charming place. |

Torquay is the blue-rinse capitol of the West Country.....well apart from the town centre where 15 year old men fight 25 year old kids! |

Was kinda hoping for a York v Oxford playoff final - would attract 30,000 minimum. |

Wotcha VP. Was kinda looking forward to playing you next year. :( 30,000? FAT Final Kidderminster v Stevenage drew 53,000. I think any combination of Oxford, York & Exeter could have topped 60,000. |

Surprised to see such a high attendance for the trophy final. 29000 were there for the vase final. Can see the entire population of Morecambe go to Wembley for the day, great opportunity for a day out without the traffic. |
