Riot Police prescence at Sunderland V Boro match! (I felt like a hooligan all day)!

I have felt real passionate about this and i told yers i needed to get it off me chest so here goes, hope yers don't fall asleep but please read;

So the countdown was nearly over, after looking forward to this day for weeks i was up sat morning very early for me these days, about 7! :o
The taxi was coming to pick me up at 8.45am from Joanne me cousin and Chris' me mate and her fiance. I go with chris 90% of the time to the games.
I dressed up in neutral colours, i hate to do this as i'm a proud smoggie but sometimes its for the best.
After the 3 S's and putting me glad rags on i was ready.
Got to Boro station in good time as the train weren't departing til 9.32am.
Bought me return train tickets, £8.30 after Joanne bought her and chris' for £11 odd. Work that one out! I said to Jo why didn't we get them all together it might have been cheaper but we laughed about it coz she said, thats payback for when you got to Newcastle for nowt before! :P
Anyways the train came and we boarded it. It weren't a busy packed train so we sat for the 45 minutes we were on to Scumderland station.
Just as the train was pulling up at Sunderland central around 10.15am we noticed there were plenty of police awaiting us. Once we stepped foot off the train onto the platform a 6ft odd Brummy police officer shouted in a very intimidating way, ''where are yers going, what are you lot doing in Sunderland, yers going to the match?''
I'd say there were at tops around 40 Boro fans barring a few who managed to sneak out including ourselves who got told ''yers are gonna sit in that waiting room till we get yers sorted into a pub.'' This is 10.15 in the morning, i wanted some scran more than owt else and that was our plan to have a dirty breakfast and watch the Man U v Chelski match at a pub somewhere.
Me cousin Jo asked the officer if the 3 of us could go as we wanted to find a cafe somewhere. I'm not massive, me mate Chris aint and Jo is about 3ft nowt plus no tatts or skin heads so we were allowed on our merry way. This weren't to say that the others were stereo-typical looking hooligans and it was unfair that they couldn't go out roaming. My bother was one of them and i rang him later and he said they were forced into a nightclub that had opened for their 'privilage' and it was all just Boro fans, with riot police outside locking them in. The pints in there were £3.30!!!! :o <_<
Anyways we did what we wanted to prior to the game. We looked for a cafe in the centre and it became clear if you had a problem, for a change you'd be able to find some coppers, everywhere and i mean everywhere there was PC plod and they were in full riot gear and outside shops/pubs/clubs police dog units were out in force. It seemed like the whole country's police force had descended on Sunderland tbh.
We had a dirty greasy breakfast, which sorted us not that we'd realise up until after the game till 9.30 at night!!
We walked to the stadium of light with Scum across the wear bridge. The majority of Boro were took into the ground via another route barracaded in by the old bill.

The match......

I won't say nowt about this, the subjects very sensitive to me. :(
One thing i must say though is with around 10 mins left of the game then at 2-2 there was some commotion to our behind right position which we all stood on our seats to see as we thought there was trouble between Sunderland and Boro fans, however it turned out to be a problem between the police and some Boro fans. Apparently police were not allowing any Boro fans go into the concourse towards the end of the game and some unhappy Boro fans made there frustration known to which the police raised there battons. :(

Once the final whistle went, the tannoy rang out, ''will Boro fans all remain seated for at least 20 minutes.'' :rant
When we went out into the concourse after waiting this time we had a look at the tv screens to see the tables and went to the toilets so all in all about half an hour after the final whislte, we stepped foot outside the ground and were ready to be on our 'merry' way. To which we came to a standstill as there was riot pigs everywhere. You name it, alsations, horses and even a police helicopter. It was as if world war 3 was about to KO!
After being stood for 10 mins or so all of a sudden a policeman with a speaker phone told us to head this way pointing in the direction! We walked where he said to which we had to stop as the police horses were blocking us off and told us to stop. We started chanting ''yer don't know what yer doing!''
Cut a very long story shorter, we were forced to go exactly were police directed us, there was no roaming about, it was like being a kid in a dinner queue but 100 times harsher. We were either marshelled onto trains, coaches or back to cars. If you didn't have a parking ticket or car keys you had to get forced onto the metro train. What if you bloody lived in Sunderland but a Boro fan i wondered?
I wanted to eat out in Sunderland and have a few drinks after the game but all of this was not allowed. It was a terrible advert for Sunderland itself and no wonder the coppers have a bad rep! We were treat simply like cattle!
This is how bad it was, once we got to Sunderland train station there were a few who wanted to use the toilets, the police at first said no one was allowed to go anywhere and a middle aged bloke was busting for a wee. Finally they came to there senses and allowed them through but even then were escorted by police. That bloke came back with a stain as he told us he simply couldn't make it!
The whole day would have cost us tax-payers a bloody fortune. I eventually got back to Boro around 8ish! :o I was on my feet up until 2 stops off M'bro station as the train was packed so that was the first sit down since the pub i was in before the match as we stood during the game!

What world are we living in when we can't even go to a football match without all being treat like hooligans? I won't be going back to sunderland ever again if i can help it and that includes going to watch the Boro. Even if we'd have won it'd took the shine off, there was no need for it!

It was truely mind boggling mate. There was never any need for it, it was bang out of order and i feel that strongly about it i want to write a letter to County Drurham/Northumbria police telling them how they've made me feel like not wanting to go to sunderland ever again. :rant

Back in the day........we were like peas and carrots always together! ;)

Spoils it, though i've never ever had that and its put me off tbh. Some smoggies were saying they've never had this in 30 odd years of supporting us apart from when in Rome in the UEFA run, thats what it reminded them of and that was because of the 'Ultra' hooligans crew not the police!

So why did the police behave in that manner then?, are you known for hooligan supporters?

The 'Boro frontline' are well known and have a reputation. But this strems from any years back and there's been no real poblems in either this fixture or the geordies barring a few isolated incidents.

I believe what the problem was, the week before there was big problems with the Mags v Mackems (Newcastle v Sunderland) after that game where Newcastle City centre came to a stand still after the game for around an hour after the game as police were trying to get in between each set of supporters.

They've then thought they needed to step the policing up to stupid crazy levels so nowt similar would happen in sunderland. Instead of anything else coming to a standstill we'l just piss every Boro fan off instead they've thought. :rant

No my dear, i hate hooliganism. If i was i'd have wore me Boro top and been obnoxious all day looking for trouble. I'm just a footy supporter first and foremost, i love cheering the Boro on.

However there is some Boro who wouldn't think twice about havin a go like.

The police obviously weren't taking any chances but they over did it by a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong way!
