Ashton Gate MYK Posts: 22,278 Group: Bristol City Member #29 Joined: June 22, 2005	The Bradford City disaster took place on May 11, 1985 when a flash fire occurred at the Valley Parade stadium of English football club Bradford City during a match against Lincoln City. On that day, Bradford were celebrating winning the Football League Third Division trophy and this was caught live by Yorkshire television. The fire started when a fan disposed of a cigarette into a plastic cup, which fell underneath the stands and into the built-up rubbish that had been accumulating under the stands over the years. The fire started in the main stand and quickly spread ; when people in the back attempted to escape, they found that the exit doors were locked. Due to its wood and asbestos construction, the stand was completely consumed by flames within minutes. 56 people died and over 200 were injured. We remember those who died watching their team on that fateful day.

SO WHAT!! Posts: 18,008 Group: Notts County Member #71 Joined: February 1, 2006	It was one of those moments in my life when I remember just what I was doing when I heard the news.The TV scenes were awful of folk catch light as they tried to escape. :(

At that time we had two similar stands at the Lane with gaps in between the wooden flooring cramped full of years of paper and fag ends.It could have quite easily happened to use. :(
