Post any info or questions or thoughts about our talented boys, their ablility and their craft here! I'm gonna kick it off with this. In the one song thread I was wondering a bunch of things and Sam said I should just ask. Hated to bug them but seeing as how I have no self-control, I did anyways. Got a fast and wonderfully informative response from Coyle.... thank you so much Coyle for taking the time! It is so appreciated! ![]() Here's what he had to say: ********************************* QUOTE Hey Julie, I've answered below... When did they start to play? I started hearing songs when I was about 11 and started writing songs and lyrics then. To finish them properly I decided I needed to learn guitar when I was bout 13. Me and Mat learnt together playing Nirvana songs in his room. Mat had already been playing guitar about a year or so. Jon leanrt guitar at about 14 and Mal was actually taught drums by our very first drummer and started when he was about 14 too. how much of their learning was formal and how much was self-taught? where was the formal training? Me and Mat both had guitar lessons at school but it was boring shit like greensleaves and we wanted to be jamming to Smells Like Teen Spirit so we quit and from then on were self taught. I've had a few piano and voice lessons along the way. Mats dad plays guitar so taught him a lot. who in their family influenced/encouraged them? and did anyone in their family want them to avoid it as a career? Mine and Mats dads are both huge music fans and played music in our houses all the time. Lots of Springsteen, Petty, Beatles, Jackson Browne - lots of good stuff!! Mat's dad plays guitar. Jon's dad plays drums and was a drummer in a band. Mals dad plays guitar, so does his brother. when did they first start to play what they play in the band? Me, Jon and Mat had played together in various bands for years. In November 2004 we decided to start a new band. We got Mark who was in a band who we knew in Leeds to take over a lot of my guitar parts and free me up to be just a front man and shake my booty on the stage. Also we wanted someone to play the key parts live. Mal joined just before Christmas in that year. We say we properly formed Jan 1 2005. what else can they play? Me - Guitar, Keyboards, Bass, Drums (badly live - good on computer Mat - Guitar, Bass, Drums Jon - Guitar, Bass, Drums Mark - Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keyboards, Piano Mal - Drums, Guitar what would they LIKE to play but don't know how yet? I want to learn how to play everything!!! I wanna learn Saxaphone next and get a lot better on Piano so I can play the blues with soul on it! what "dream" equipment or instrument would they still like to obtain, if any? I want a Gretsch White Falcon - our producer David Bendeth is buying me one when we go Platinum so I'll have to wait till then! and last but not least I also wonder, if Mark had his choice, would he choose lead or bass over rhythm guitar? I assume that since he joined after Mat and Jon, he didn't have the choice...... but maybe I assume wrong! Can't answer for Mark on this but Mat is definitely the best guitarist in the band by quite a distance! Coyle x |

Sooooo, I was listening to the radio today and U2's "I Will Follow" came on . I LOVE, love, LOVE early U2 and hadn't heard any early U2 in awhile. While I was listening to it, I couldn't help but think of Your Vegas. I can hear how they must have been a HUGE influence on them! I think that was one of my initial draws to them. I love their unmistakable sound
. I hear influences of bands I LOVE, but they are their own unique sound
.Just wanted to share
!!!!

I agree Michele, U2 deffo has some competition on their hands! Early U2 really reminds me of YV as well, though they each have their unique sound. And Coyle and Bono both have such pure gorgeous voices.

So cool about the lawyers in the bar !!!! When things like that fall into place so easily, you know you are headed for GREAT things
!Ohhhh! I know A LOT of great BBQ places here in Dallas! Lotsa ribs, boys, we never run out down here
! So funny about 18 of them cramming into the van I can just picture it!!!!And Mat likes The Smiths . I LOVE THE SMITHS! Awesome read! Thanks again, Julie! |

Oh cool, thanks Debbie! I love the Smiths too, one of my faves. And Arcade Fire and Muse, but the Smiths are a constant in my listening. Was supposed to finally see Morrissey last summer but he got sick. Yeah the bands squishing into the van sounds funny. Jon told a story and I'm gonna assume its ok to tell, I don't know why not, but it reminds me of this. When they were first in NY and pretty broke, since you can only have 4 people in a cab, the first four would get in and jon would sneak in and lie on the floor of the backseat so they'd only have to pay for one cab. funny stuff. I asked how he ended up being the one to have to be on the floor, he got a little proud smile and said something like he was the one who could pull it off the best, sneaking into the cab like that.

Folks...not that anyone needs a reminder, but wow...can I say again how sweet and generous our Your Vegas guys are?! Despite being completely sleep deprived for over 48 hours, they cranked out an awesome show in an acoustically deficit mall atrium - and never once backed off giving us their all both on stage and off. They graciously lingered for more pics and autographs post show with nothing but smiles. They are truly amazing. So onto the Hard Rock and again -- totally giving of their time and attention to each of us who were there - making us feel like we are so welcome. They gave 110% in the show and after --- again! These are not just great and talented guys in an awesome band -- these are great guys, period. |

Girl look at you and that lead singer guy.......ummmmmm....whats his name...ermmm oh yeah...Coyle !!!!! :
Jackie, I cannot come up with any words to add to your description of this band...cept they have to be the hardest working dudes around!! There is no doubt in my mind they had to be totally exhausted.......hell I was and all I did was run around the Mall......Your Vegas is the total package..! Despite the fact they had driven 14 hrs, had no sleep, performed Friday morn, drove to the mall, set up, had to walk a billion miles to the green room, participate in a meet and greet, throw down some serious rocking tunes and then sign more pics...AND have pics taken ..... THEY DID ALL THIS WITH SMILES AND GENUINE HAPPINESS!!! No way this girl could be a rock star......I am tired just thinking about it LOL.....I cant even function today on a normal level...I can only imagine how they do what they do.....sheer weariness for me.........Im such a girl
LMAOTHEY ARE FABULOUS PEOPLE..........JUST ACE ALL THE WAY AROUND....... plus they play pretty good music too...... hahahahahaha!!! me! ps Me and Peggy and Richie ate at Fat Matts and it was the bomb!!!!Check it !
