Franky, I don't think it's ever been proven that homosexuality is genetic. I think there's probably a lot of opinion on it.. but I've never heard of them finding the 'gay' gene. I'd personally argue it is probably not genetic. There's been some talk about 'natural' and 'nature' here, but I think most people can at least agree it is against natural selection. Meaning, if there was a gene that caused homosexuality, it is less likely to be passed down the line as there is less likely to be reproduction (and yes, I am aware there plenty of cases like Oscar Wilde due to society pressures etc). Also, I know a pair of twins where one is gay and one isn't However, I think what is generally agreed is that it is decided very early in life. So, the main point Franky makes (it's not a choice) is valid. People are not choosing to be homosexual, its been decided by their very early upbringing (or perhaps biology rather than genetics?) from an early age. Marriage is a tricky one... as it is a word some are very emotional about. Personally, I am undecided on what you call it and don't really care either way. But should same sex couples be entitled to all the same legal rights as what a married man and woman enjoy? I think Absolutely! To quote a comedian I once saw talking about the issue: 'It's amazing how some people care about something that is never going to affect them.' If you're not gay, why do you care if two guys/girls are married or not. It makes me suspicious that the saying that most homophobic people are actually in the closet is actually true. By the way, I'm curious about the homosexual animals people mention before (but not curious to look it up myself)... are they animals strictly gay.. never reproduce? I remember reading about a documentary on the issue but I missed it. |
