Anyone have any suggestions on a reasonably priced monitor that will make games like: Crysis, Unreal Tournament 3, and Call of Duty 4 look outstanding?
As you can tell I don't know a lot about monitors, but what should I look for to tell if the monitor is good or not? Thanks.

Here's my current project:
MB: ASUS Striker Extreme NVIDIA nFORCE 680i SLI
C.PU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHZ or Q6800
GC: 8800 GTX
PSU: Antec True Power Quattro 1,000 watt
RAM: Kingston Hyper X 4GB DDR2 PC2-8500
SC: X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty Pro
HD: Western Digital Raptor X 10,000 RPM 150GB
Monitor: ????

What do you think?

My current monitor

I have that one and love it. I wouldn't buy a monitor from Bestbuy because they usually aren't the best buy lol.

Like Dragon said though, you want a lower ms time, the lower the better. The one I showed you is a 2ms one. Also, a high resolution is better. I don't think I would like to go much past 1680x1050 though myself. I find it to be just right for me. That is just a personal preference though. It will make your games look better the higher the resolution while things start to get smaller, like the interface of the game. Some games allow you to resize the interface afterward, but others don't.

Your card is capable of a max resolution of 2560 x 1600 so both of the monitors we showed aren't even capable of reaching the max resolution of that card.

The only down side to the monitor I have is the base does not adjust. It will swivel horizontally but will do nothing vertically. For some this can be an issue, like if the surface you put the monitor on is much higher than where you sit. Your eye level needs to be about a foot above the surface the monitor will sit on.

Another Monitor

Here is another monitor that is almost exactly the same as what Dragon showed you for about $200 less. It is from Acer, who aren't the biggest brand, but they are still quite good. I got a laptop from them and am happy with it. In fact, this monitor has a 2ms response while the one Dragon showed you has a 3ms response. They have the same resolution capabilities and same size. The one Dragon showed had more ways to connect the monitor, but if you want it for just your computer, this will be just fine.

Hope it helps!

That is quite the nice set up by the way. It is pretty much like mine, only I don't have a 10,000 RPM hard drive because mine broke. So I just replaced it with a few cheaper 7,500 RPM ones heh. Quad Core wasn't even around when I built my computer though, so that is different. Let me know if that is any good, I am interested in it, but won't be changing what I have for a while.

does your gc Support HDCP if so if you get a monitor does 2 and you use dvi which you should if you download hd tv show they most likely will not play because of the HDCP.

Lets see, I can play Bioshock, Prey, FEAR, STALKER, TF2, Hellgate: London and Oblivion on the max graphics with little to no slow down. Crysis I can do about the second highest graphics with a bit of slow down. The game still looks amazing anyway lol.

The new stuff that is coming out that supports DX10 is starting to get a bit sluggish on my system. DX10 games are insanely good looking. Are you planning to get Vista? Your card supports DX10 but will only work if you have Vista. If you plan to get it, you may wanna just go all out and the the Ultimate edition and install the 64 bit version.

Since you are getting 4 gigs of ram, just know that regular Windows XP can not support more than like 3.5 gigs. The rest will just not be used. Windows XP 64 bit and Vista 64 bit can support more, I forget how much, but it is a lot. The reason I don't really recommend XP 64 is because I had it at one point and it was a pain to find drivers for it. I am currently using Vista 64 and have had no issue finding drivers.

Anyone that tells you Vista is bugged or will drastically slow you down is just being dumb heh. Of course it takes more resources than XP, it has more features. Your computer is more than capable to deal with it though. Bug wise, I haven't had a Vista related crash since I got it.

One strange thing about installing Vista though was that if you have 4 gigs of ram, it wont install. All you have to do is take 2 gigs out, install vista, get all the vista updates and put the ram back in. That is about the only issue I had with it.

Anyway, this post got way to long, time to watch some One Piece. cp

Wait, what do you mean? and what exactly is HDCP?
Also, does it really matter if I have TWO 8800GTXs?

I haven't had an issue with any show I have tried to watch with my 8800 GTX. It is just plugged into the DVI-I port. I am not sure if I have tried any HD shows with it yet. I really only watch anime on this computer. I don't bother downloading any other types of shows.

I didn't quite understand what you were saying. Are you saying that if the card supports HDCP, you should get a monitor that supports it as well? In that case, the first monitor I showed you will work, the one I have currently. Maybe that is why I can watch HD shows lol.

Hopefully we can clear this up. I am not exactly a pro when it comes to monitors, I just know a few things I picked up over the years heh.

Well, if I understood him right, the 24" monitor won't work with HD shows. I am not sure where you got the idea that you would need 2 GFX cards though. All getting 2 will do is make them work together for slightly better frame rates in games. Well, unless you wanna hook up 4 monitors at once for whatever reason lol.

Either of those monitors will work, with 1 gfx card or 2, it doesn't matter. As far as I can tell, he is only talking about watching HD shows specifically. What I am kind of lost on is the HDCP he is talking about. It shows in the spec for the monitor I have that it has a DVI port that supports HDCP while the Acre one doesn't say that. Maybe that is what he is talking about. Still, the one he showed didn't say it supported it either.

So I hope that cleared some things up. I am still a bit lost so hopefully Dragon will clear some of this up heh.

Alright, I asked my friend who is like 10x better than me about this kind of thing. The funny thing is, while searching all through the specs of that Acre, I neglected to read the title that said, "HDCP Support" right on it.

He said that monitor will work. What I think Dragon was asking is if the card supported HDCP. The simple answer is yes. So yes, that monitor, and that card will allow you to watch HD shows, if you ever happen to download them.

Ok, headin to bed, lol.

I think you have them confused. I have asked a couple people that have a lot of experience with computers. I know a guy that has worked with them for 10+ years and is a tech professional at a major company. He is saying that if it supports HDCP, it is a good thing that will allow you to watch shows that have the HDCP. If you get one that does not have HDCP, it will not allow you to watch them.

It makes sense to me as well. If it supports HDCP, it will allow you to watch shows that have HDCP.
