Hi, there's a small thing that irks me about the releases. The MP4 encodes do not play on a Playstation 3 console. PS3 supports MP4, but it doesn't work when I try to play one of the releases. The MP4 RAW releases work perfectly, but not the subbed ones. One Piece is one of the few animes that get released in HD, so I always like to watch it on my HD tv, and I hate having to re-encode the releases in order to do so. So basically all I'm asking is if you could make the MP4 releases compatible with PS3s. You could always release them in avi instead, since PS3s play them too. Thanks. |

i have a ps3 2. but just because it say it plays it does not mean it can play different types of mp4 and avi because of the way they are encoded. yea ill think about doing it when i encode the HD's so ill play with the setting 2 see what i get. but as for op we will have 2 see if mr.hazard wants 2 do that. Thanks for the input. |

Mp4 is a video container, so u should check if ps3 plays x264 codec, if not there is nothing we can do, raws are encoded in other codecs, maybe that's the reason why you can play them. |

Well yeah that's just it, couldn't you encode your releases in a codec similar to the RAW? I mean I'm sure a lot of people like to watch their HD anime on their HDTVs instead of their monitors, so I think it would be better if you could make your releases compatible with PS3s to appeal to an even wider audience. Here's the animesoftsubs release of OP345 (does not play on PS3s): ![]() And here's after I've re-encoded it, which takes me 2-3 hrs (plays on PS3s):

What's the file size when you re encode? Encoders here use x264 because that way they can have a great quality video with a low MB size so its easyer for people to download. |

Well it's exactly 302 MB, slightly bigger than the original animesoftsubs release which is 242 MB, and with the same quality. I think it shouldn't be a big deal because if people want to watch an anime episode in HD, they should be prepared to download at least 300 MB. There's always the smaller sized SD version for people that don't care. And most of the HD releases on other sites are like 350 MB and whatnot. I'm sure I can re-encode it to retain the 242 MB while still keeping the same quality if I try, but I don't think 40 extra MB is that big of a deal. |

If you get it on the same size and same quality then maybe you're also using x264, if its like that, maybe x264 is not the problem, maybe the audio or who knows, but to tell you the truth, mp4 using x264 is the best combination of quality and size. Anyway, its their call. And also, is not such a long time 2-3 hours to re-encode, i know that when our encoders do the work from the original raw, that takes them more than that, I don't think is a big deal to have to wait another 2 or 3 extra ours to watch OP, and also you can feel like you did part of the job, lol, that should make you happy. |

ok well you see it take that long 2 do the encode anyways and can take longer. and the flie size should be no more then 250mb. and look at the ps3 thing for you. or if you want it now you could plug your computer into your hdtv. you can talk 2 me on aim or msn if you want. |

Well I guess that's a no? I'm sure your own encodes take longer because you're burning the softsubs into hardsubs right? That lengthens the process by quite a bit. Well so if I manage to encode OP 345 into a size that's less than 250 MB, still retain the same quality, all while making it compatible with PS3s, will you change your mind then? |

Read above, Dragon is one of our encoders, seems like he wants to help you. Anyway, if you do what you say, that would be cool, then you can talk about the settings you used, but try to use x264. |

ummmm I'm going to bring this to another perspective and point. If you have been updating your PS3's software (IE: hooking it up to the internet and downloading the updates like you should be doing) then you should just be able to play .avi extensions. The recent upgrade for the PS3's software has the DivX codec installed into it so your PS3 can now run in infamous .avi exentsion which we use for our hardsubs. I have done this myself and our hardsubs run perfeclty on my PS3. If you just use the AVI version now you should have no problems anymore >_> EDIT: There could be another factor involved that I just now though of. This depends upon which generation of PS3 you own. There are three that I know of unless they have just realsed another one 1st Gen: 20 GB's 2nd Gen: 40 GB's 3rd Gen: 80 GB's The 3rd Gen PS3's should automatically have the software for avi's installed into it, but the 3rd gen is also the PS3 that can't play PS2 or PS1 games (which is why it fails). As for the first two you have to update your PS3 to obtain the codec. There could be other differences but with my PS3 I have never had problems being able to play the mp4 files that we have released, I am not sure what the difference could be but it may be that. I just thought I should add that small thought into the fray. |
