The voice and aura are probably some cosmetic things because of the fact that no one else says anything about her unusually deep, raspy voice and the dark-evil-sinister aura. Of course, if Dan could be a giant demon baby and Jennifer could open a gate to hell or wherever, I guess that Bates could easily be some intruding spirit.
