I really feel like I have to justify what I picked, because I have a feeling I'll be one of the only people (if not THE only person) who thinks Atari would be a good choice, should CT get drop-kicked to another company. I'm a Transformers fan. Atari made a Transformers game called "Prelude to Energon" and it was per-fect (it even got good reviews from non-Transfans who just wanted a solid mech game). Even though it's not horror, it is a game based on pre-existing characters and plots, and Atari did a great job of both preserving what was important (ie, Megatron's got a noble streak) and putting enough of a new spin on it that it didn't feel like "more of the same" (ie, Decepticlones). It also has solid, accessable gameplay. As for why I didn't pick a more obvious company... I love Fatal Frame dearly. But FF3 had some hide-and-seek sequences, and they weren't all that hot. If Tecmo could beef them up, they'd be a shoo-in, but otherwise... Silicon Knights and Konami could probably both put out an excellent game, but I'm not sure they could (or would even try to) capture the established "tone" of Clock Tower instead of doing their own thing. We need someone who'll put themselves on hold and basically make HUMAN's game, and I don't see either of those companies doing it. |
