I like it, too. I think there's a fear any movie version would fall short of what Kinji Fukasaku's already done, sort of the way there was a collective gasp of horror from the film community when Gus Van Sant announced he was going to remake Psycho. Can't speak for everyone, though. I like your plot idea, though! It reminds me a little of Fatal Frame 3, and sounds like a neat way to combine plotlines/continuities without risking being contradictory.
IAWTS. I apologize in advance for mention of your bogeyman, but the end of the film where Alice calls Wesker and tells him she's "coming to get him" actually made me want to see him put the smack down on her. Original characters can work, but they need to be believable in the context of the story, and they need to earn the viewers' respect and trust. Introducing a new main character by showing him wantonly flaunt the universe's well-established rules or beat up a regular- even if that regular is a villain- doesn't make viewers think he's cool.
