It's hard for me to not say that there wasn't a bit of attraction toward the two, both as friends and as possible lovers. Not to mention that they already have the "D-A-N" part down, with Dennis and Alyssa completing the "D-A" part. And it makes up for a great story with their daughter who would have the letter "N" in her name thus completing their saga, and with her being a Rooder.
