Posts: 459 Group: Newspaper Reporter Member #75 Joined: 03/15/07	Hey, guys; this's been chronicled on Broken Clock, but I thought I'd post it here just in case. I am, very gradually, translating the choose-your-own-adventure Clock Tower novels released in Japan several years ago. Note it's very gradual; there're two novels (one for Helen, one for Jennifer) at about 300 pages apiece. (They're not typical CYOA's; the first choice, for example, comes at page 70 or so. There're only four or five plot junctions in the whole narrative, with four or five endings. (The endings don't really follow the ones in the game.) What I have of Helen's is here. It's a work-in-progress - there're a couple rough spots in the translation - but it's a start. Also, I've read ahead a bit in the novels, and there's one assertion, common to all the paths, that seems to dovetail with something KazeTaco mentioned about the CT drama CDs. I might otherwise write it off as an odd idea from the novel author only, but since it seems to pop up elsewhere in the CT stories... (The director also seems, from his notes, to be involved in the CDs and novels - they're not farmed-out cheap spin-offs, in other words - and he does mention in his footnotes that they included ideas in the novels they couldn't fit in the games.) Please highlight below if you'd like to see. It's rather big not to have included in the games. Jennifer is a Barrows; her mom was a Barrows. Walter was summoned to the Clock Tower mansion that night specifically due to his marriage and not just because he happened to be the nearest or best doctor to deliver the twins, for as-of-yet unknown purposes. Edward's motives, then, include either sacrificing Jennifer or getting her to join the family. I don't know if the males of the Barrows clan be Scissormen while those involved with the female side end up blood sacrifices - Walter with his eaten hand, Jen on the cross - but Ed does want his "oneechan" if possible. This might explain Barton being let in on the scheme better; as described in the novels, his therapy sessions are more like torture, forcing Jen to relive the incident again and again, and Edward might be using the master psychologist in an attempt to turn Jen. Well, there we have it, for good or ill.

It seems to me this is far more well-written than your average media tie-in novel. References to the "Great Father" intrigue me most of all! (Izzat my eyeball monster?</idle speculation>) As for the Big Spoiler, That explains so much. I always thought it was was too coincidental Jennifer would just happen to be targeted by the same killer who murdered her father.
