Checked their names and they are apparently new users that were (automatically?) banned after registering an account. Curiosity is killing me... Is this because the IP they use is banned? Maybe here it lets you create an account despite your IP being banned, but after you register it the user appears as banned all of a sudden. Anyway, just would like to know why they are banned (in case nobody has a problem with letting me know) :) :P PS: Yes, I know, I should stick to my own business, but I can't help it -_- |

Some of those members are actually not banned. See, we have it that when new people register, they must have an Admin's approval due to the flux of spam bot accounts [offitanah, Lewpawadaro, and appoldirl are spam bots] we've been having. Therefore we have an Admin to approve of the new members in that meantime and for some strange reason, they end up as being "banned" when they first join up. But they will resume their normal position as "Spirit [0 posts]" when their account has been approved, such as I have just approved of Fortesque13. ^^;; BlackWidow and Tonbo Jigen have not been approved yet. Thankfully bugashi, Lime, and myself have been weeding them out before they even post here. =D |

Oh, ok :) About the spam bots, I don't know if it's the software each forum uses or what, but it seems that some bots can enter and post some forums a lot easier than in others. I know a forum that for a period of time each they had 1 or 2 bots registering and posting. As of the forum I administrate, some bots used to register (especially from IPs beginning with 209., I think), but they never got to post (couldn't get to confirm their accounts apparently). Some weeks ago we deleted all those "not confirmed" accounts, and changed an option so that only confirmed accounts appear as users in the forum. If the IPs of the spam bots you get here are most times similar (only changing in the last 3 digits or something) you could try to ban that IP range maybe. Then there are the Google bots, but those are harmless as far as I know. |

The Google bots can see the forum, but they can't join up, as far as I know. With that and the fact that they wouldn't post spam links even if they did join, they're perfectly harmless. :3 |

I think I have fixed it now, but I have to await for a new member to sign up to see if they are in the group called "Awaiting Validation". Also I added a new code for us Mods to see who has just recently registered with us. I was wondering if anyone can see the text: "You have 1 user(s) awaiting validation." If you can, please let me know so I can see whether or not if only the Admin and Mods can see it or does everyone see it. ^^;; |

A way several forums use to avoid spam bots is the 'visual character verification' test thing. You know the one. Where they give you an image of a bunch of letters and numbers and you have to type them out. That's what that's there for. I don't remember if DCJ has one of these set up, but if we don't, it might be nice to try. |
