We obviously knew that the Fake Scissor Men were Barton and Harris, each having their own reason to don on the rubber mask, giant mask, and black trenchcoat. Barton wanted to understand and get into the mindframe of the killer, and Harris wanted it as exchange in order to have Jennifer as his prize. Now let's say that WHAT IF the other characters became the Fake Scissor Men. This just leaves Barton as some kind of nutty professor, and Harris as some stalker who doesn't get tempted easily by Edward's bargain -- therefore they are never the Fake Scissor Men, at least not in this topic. Now for these two new Fake Scissor Men. What would be their motive, if they could have any? And would the outcome change because they were the ones out to kill people? Please only choose TWO people that would take over Barton's and Harris' place as the Fake Scissor Men. Since Edward is the real deal, you cannot choose him as well. This list also excludes people that are victims such as Baker, Rose, and Rick; and NPCs who do not play a factor in the game such as the Reporter and Rescue Team. This list above also mostly includes only those who are alive during Scenario-3 and are considered survivors. So let me know your opinions. Let's see how interesting this can get! |

Personally, I see Jennifer as being one of the Fake Scissor Men. I choose her because what if Jennifer becomes deranged at the end of Clock Tower [~The First Fear~]? She had to have regular sessions with Barton because she was beyond help and Helen thinks that this was the best for the both of them. But Jennifer believes that the Scissor Man is still alive, even though she had known that they were dead because she saw Bobby being crushed by the gears and Dan being consumed by flames. So suddenly she snapped and started her killing rampage, first starting with the Security Guard who happened to stop her when he went out to check on the weird footsteps he heard approaching the University dorm which was those of Jennifer wearing a trenchcoat and weilding some scissors. Of course, it wouldn't make sense if you were to think how would Scenario-1 and Scenario-3 work out with you playing as Jennifer, but it would definitely work out well if you were to play as Helen only. Which is why someone else would be the Fake Scissor Man in Jennifer's Scenario. This took me a while to think about it. I personally cannot see Gotts, Danny, Helen, Beth, or Tim to take on that role because they would have no reason to kill. Now that leaves me with Nolan and Kay. I could see Nolan being one because he needed stories to fill out his tabloids, who is to say that he cannot start killing people in order to keep the sensationalization of the fear of the Scissor Man alive in his readers. Also without any juicy stories, he probably would be out of his job because we have to know. He isn't a newspaper reporter like Gômoto/Bowman, he is a tabloid reporter. Then it would just create a whole kind of weirdom for him and Jennifer to start killing people. A kind of sick Bonnie and Clyde, what have you. Which is why I have to choose Kay in the end. Kay is perfect for the role, she would do anything to please Edward as she knows his history. So she would be likely to become the Scissor Man and start killing people to keep Edward happy. And I see it to be perfect because of her many failures to kill Jennifer would eventually lead Edward to kill her in the better Endings of the game because we do see her dead. And her being alive in the worst Endings can be seen as her last resort to "get her job done right". So yeah, Jennifer and Kay, definitely. [And I made this post too long, didn't I?] |

I think that Kay could definitely be a fake Scissorman, considering she and Edward not only have a mother-child relationship, but a romantic one as well. The others, however, were rather tricky to pick. I was stuck between Jennifer and Nolan, but in the end, I chose Nolan. I considered Jennifer - maybe she wants to lash out at the media for sensationalizing her so much? She could've gone very crazy from Bobby and Mary - she could've gone even more loony from Barton's nutty therapy. I could imagine Barton, Nolan, and Tim as being the first victims of hers. I decided on Nolan - it wouldn't be as out of proportion as Jennifer's case IMO - he could've had a much more warped obsession on her like Harris. I could imagine that Jennifer rejects his interview/date invite, making him very upset. His first victims in this case would be Helen - get her away from Jennifer, Tim - to avoid him finding out the secrets, and possibly Harris (the pedophile version in Jennifer's scenario). |

I chose Kay and Jennifer as well, for pretty much the same reasons. Hey, what about Danny while we're at it? He doesn't do anything so we might as well make him useful for some- oh snap, someone beat me to it! |

I picked Danny(>:3 to Lime) and Kay. While I could see Jennifer going on a crazy-nutso-killing-spree after the events of TFF, I don't think she would try to emulate the murderer. Helen and Gotts seem to have too strong a since of justice; Beth is way too nice; Nolan seems to sensible Kay is an obvious choice, she’d do anything for Edward if he pressed her enough, and she already commits murder in the game. Danny because he thinks Scissorman is “Cool”, and if Edward was to tap into that, he may get a reaction. Oh, and “I don’t have a passport” is a perfect alibi. (And he needs MORE LINES.) |

Goddammit, five posts in, and I already screw up the poll. I voted for only one person, Jennifer - I just like all the peripheral stories where she winds up an accomplice. If I had taken time to read the instructions and pick a second choice, it would've been Kay, for the reasons discussed above. |

Kay is too obvious of a choice, so I chose Jennifer and Nolan (for Helen and Jennifer's scenarios, respectively). XD They're the LAST people that you would expect. Helen cares for Jennifer, so it would be a twist for her scenario; Jennifer cares for Nolan, so it would be a twist for her scenario. And I just love twists. XD |

Nolan and Tim. They both could murder people as scissorman to have a good story. It's their job and they are newspaper reporters (Those guys kill for a good story! I tell you!). If there was a gardener, he/she would probably the murderer! :D |

I seriously thought Danny WAS the killer the first time I played. The mask on his desk...the suspicious comments...he only appeared at convenient times and had access to all of the crime scenes (access to the university dpt. of the library, the university itself, and could easily find the locations of Rick's house and the castle from the office). Plus his name = Danny |

I chose Kay, for the obvious reason - she'd do anything for Edward, just like Mary. Other than that, I can't see anybody being a fake scissorman. They have no motive for being one (except for Kay, of course) and it just seems weird. |

I vote for Jennifer and Nolan. The idea that the drama CD and the adventure novels suggested is too delicious to pass up. Plus Jennifer actually falling in love with a guy that turns out to be a Scissorman? Ehehehehe! >D |

I picked who I did because of the reason Harris and Barton became the fake Scissormen: they spent a significant amount of time with Edward, allowing his evil influence to twist their minds and turn their darkest wishes into needs they could not ignore and would kill to fulfill. For reasons already mentioned, Kay is the first person I picked. Next to Barton and his team, she spends the most time with Edward, and since she basically IS girl-type Harris, if for some reason Edward couldn't bend him, she'd be the next best choice. She's already a killer in one of the endings, just not an imposter Scissorman, so I don't think it's beyond her. The second... would be Rick the butler. He spent years working for the Burroughs family, so they would have had plenty of opportunities to "corrupt" him... and there has to be a reason a family of serial killers sent him away with a hefty retirement instead of just murdering him when they were done with him. Maybe he has some kind of loyalty towards them (or, in the tinfoil-hat version, he could even BE a Burroughs himself, one who survived to 'outgrow' being the Scissorman but can still handle the shears like a pro - that would fit with the 'history of the Burroughs clan' angle and would explain why the butler knows so much about them). I can see him faking his death like Jigsaw, then returning to attack the intruder in his home in the guise of Scissorman. B'sides, the butler always did it! I'd say, in this scenario, Kay would stalk Helen (a fight between peers and a "good" mother-figure vs. a "bad" mother-figure) while Rick would stalk Jennifer (since he comes from the Burroughs manor and his story would tie more into TFF). Wow it's been almost a year since I responded to this - crazy! If I could retract my vote I would probably at this point choose "I personally cannot see anyone being a Fake Scissor Man." The reason being that all of those who fell under Dan's influence (Barton / Harris / Kay) were weak to begin with. All Dan had to do was find "cracks" in their personalities and exploit them. And, as Jburroughs mentioned, Dan was alone with all of them often enough to pull this off. If you look at the rest of the cast as individuals, there isn't really anyone who has it in them to pick up a pair of shears and start offing people the way that Barton and Harris did. What reason would they have? Even Kay, who supposedly knew who Dan was all along, never took that leap into becoming a mass murderer - heck, even though she resorts to murder in one ending, she's still heard reasoning with him to stop in another, and when she DOES attack the protagonist, she's only doing it to protect Edward (whom she thinks deep down is a "good boy") from someone she deems a threat to him. Jennifer probably would be the most interesting person to become "Scissorman" but I couldn't see this happening mainly because she was so traumatized by him. He killed her friends, the only ones she loved (specifically Lotte), and as an orphan, those girls were probably the closest people to her. They were her family. If Jennifer were somehow driven mad by Scissorman and resorted to murder, I don't see her dressing up as the guy who killed her family. Nolan gives off a hint of creepiness by allowing Jennifer to kiss him, but what reason would he have to kill? We can presume he was a reporter even before the Clock Tower case became sensationalized, and as a journalist he's probably already used to covering boring cases. The Clock Tower case alone should be exciting enough for him to cover, so I don't see why he'd feel the need to create more stories, especially since Scissorman ends up returning anyway. And, as a "survivor" of the case, he's bound to receive some recognition anyway so if it's fame he's after then he'll get it whether he dresses up as Scissorman or not. Personality-wise I never saw anything that indicated he had much of a dark side. He obviously likes being involved in the case, but he also seems to like pleasing Jennifer (possibly for the information she provides, and possibly because he simply likes her as a person). Besides these two, there really aren't any other possibilities. Helen is too strong of a person to fall into something like that, and that's probably why Dan never attempted to corrupt her. Nobody else really had the time or opportunity to become involved with Dan to the degree that Barton and Kay did (remember that Edward has probably been with Kay for about a year now), and nobody else seems to be a wacko like Harris. |
